1.1 Main types of tourism:

UNWTO – United Nations World Tourism Organization

Tourism is the temporary short term movement of people to destinations outside places where
they normally live and work, and their activities during their stay at these destinations.

the definition of tourism given by UNWTO – tourism comprises the activities of persons
travelling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than on
consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes.

Types of visitor / tourist

Tourists are classified into two – International and domestic tourist
International tourist – travels out of their country of origin

The types of international visitors

Inbound tourists –tourists travelling to a country, inbound for the receiving country. Visitors
from overseas coming into the country.
Outbound tourists – residents travelling out of a country, outbound for the resident country.
Travelling to a different country for a visit or a holiday.
