A1 Level
Singular Nouns
We use “A” when a noun begins with a consonant (p, b,
t, k, m, l…)
Ex: a dog, a cat, a house, a car, a paper(newspaper)
BUT: a university

Plural Nouns
When a noun ends with -s, -ss, -sh, -ch, -x, -o we add –es
Ex: watch – watches
Ex: box – boxes
Ex: dish – dishes
Ex: potato – potatoes
Ex: dress - dresses
When a noun ends with a consonant + y, we add –ies
Ex: baby – babies
Ex: party – parties

When a noun ends with a vowel + y, we add –s
Ex: day – days

There are some nouns that are ALWAYS PLURAL: pants,
trousers, jeans, shorts, boots, shoes, glasses

add -s, -es, -ies

Ex: fish – fish / a lot of fish
