Singular Nouns

 Singular noun means only 1


 Ex: I have a dog (I have 1 dog)

 We use “A” and “AN” before singular nouns


 Ex: a dog, a car, a house, a university
 Ex: an apple, an orange, an hour

 Ex: a dog, a cat, a house, a car, a paper(newspaper)
 BUT: a university

 We use “AN” when a noun begins with a vowel (a, e, u,

 BUT: an hour, an honest man

 Plural nouns mean there are 2 or more
 We DO NOT use “A” or “AN” before a plural noun
 Ex: a cars
 Ex: an apples
 We add -s, -ies, -es to the noun
 Ex: 1 boy -> 2 boys
 Ex: 1 lady -> 2 ladies
 Ex: 1 box -> 2 boxes

 When a noun ends with -s, -ss, -sh, -ch, -x, -o we add –es
 Ex: watch – watches
 Ex: box – boxes
 Ex: dish – dishes
 Ex: potato – potatoes

 When a noun ends with a consonant + y, we add –ies
 Ex: baby – babies
 Ex: party – parties
