3. You are in a car standing by a traffic light and at time t = 0 the light turns green. You start to
accelerate during the first 2 seconds with uniform acceleration of 1 m/s2, after that acceleration
is ceased. At the instant the light turns green a cyclist passes through the intersection moving
with a speed 3 m/s in the same direction as your car is moving. At that instant, the cyclist starts
to brake with a constant acceleration of magnitude a. At time t = 4 seconds the cyclist stops at
the same location where you are. The value of a is
(A) 0.40 m/s2 (B) 0.60 m/s2 (D) 0.25 m/s2 (D) 0.75 m/s2
4. An object is thrown with velocity v from the edge of a cliff above level ground. Neglect air
resistance. In order for the object to travel a maximum horizontal distance from the cliff before
hitting the ground, the throw should be at an angle θ with respect to the horizontal of
(A) greater than 60° above the horizontal
(B) greater than 45° but less than 60° above the horizontal
(C) greater than zero but less than 45° above the horizontal

5. Two large parallel plates are located in vacuum. One of them serves as cathode, a source of
electrons whose initial velocity is negligible. An electron flow directed towards opposite plate
produces a space charge causing the potential in the gap between the plates to vary as
V ax1/3 , where a is a positive constant, and x is the distance from the cathode. Then
(A) The space charge density is non-uniform and decreases with increasing value of x.
(B) The space charge density is non-uniform and increases with increasing value of x.
(C) The current density between the plates is uniform.
(D) The current density between the plates is non uniform.
6. A homogeneous Proton beam accelerated by a potential difference V has a round cross section
of radius a. The beam current is I. Mass of one proton is m. Then

7. A particle of mass m is moving along the +x-axis with a constant speed v0. At time t = 0 it
enters a region in space between two parallel plates which are separated by a distance ℎ and are
contained in the x-z plane. The figure shows a side view of the plates, the +z axis is out of the
page (screen). While the particle is between the plates, it is acted on by both gravity and by a
time varying force that points upward (along the +y-direction) and has magnitude F = bt,
where b is a positive constant that is sufficiently large such that the particle hits the top plate
without ever touching the bottom plate.
(A) The particle will be closest to the bottom plate after time t = 2mg/b
(B) The trajectory of the particle will be parabolic.
(C) The particle will be closest to the bottom plate after a time t = mg/b.

Enthalpy of sublimation may be determined experimentally but instead of that let us explore an
easier roate for this datum. Enthalpy changes depends only on the initial & the final states &
not on the path. Therefore we must find the same value for enthalpy change whether the
system goes directly from a solid to gas or through the intermediate state of a liquid therefore.
Hsub = Hfus + Hvap. above equation is true only when values are measured at the same
temperature, but if enthalpy data are given at different temperature than enthalpy change can
be calculated by kirchaff’s law.

constant pressure, a temperature increase of 5.7°C was measured for the beaker and its
