To get a better idea of what the theory suggests, let’s play this simple game.
1. Get a few pieces of a paper.
2. Put a few pieces of the paper close together.
3. Then, imagine that this is how the continents looked like at first.
4. Slowly shake the table.
5. Observe how the pieces of the paper move to different directions.
6. Continue shaking the table for a few more minutes, then stop.

Try answering the following questions:


1. What did you notice about the pieces of paper before you shook the table? Describe how they were
arranged.

The Continents
The Continental Drift Theory suggests that for a time there was only one continent. Movements under the
earth’s surface caused this single continent to separate into smaller “pieces” and drift (at about a few inches
per year) in various directions. The smaller continents formed the present-day continents.

Asia is a huge continent that it is divided into several regions, like the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
Asia is known to be the largest and most populated continent in the world. North Asia, East Asia, South Asia,
Southeast Asia, West Asia and Central Asia are among of the regions in Asia. Diverse customs and tradition of
art, music, politics and religion abound the continent.

The Role of Human Resources to the Asian Economy

Human resources refer to the workforce or personnel in a particular organization. The Asian workforce holds a
significant role towards economic growth in the content.

Ethnic Groups in Asia


Ethnicity is the grouping of people with common cultural background, practices, values and beliefs. Variety of
ethnic groups are found in the five regions of Asia, namely: North Asia, East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia
and West Asia.

Characteristics of Arts and Crafts in East Asia


East Asian art in the form of visual arts, performing arts, and music of East Asian countries. According to
studies, it had also greatly influenced the Indonesia and some parts of North Asia. Below are some of the arts
and crafts in East Asia.

Arts and crafts are creative expressions of humans. In Asia, arts and crafts are prevalent among Asian
societies. Below are some of the famous arts and crafts that are practiced in Southeast Asia.
Asian Festival and Theater

Elements and Principles of Asian Festivals and Theater Styles


The performing arts of Asia like in festival of theater are viewed as complex. The said complexities can be
attributed to the earliest origins of Asian arts which are linked Asian religious, philosophy, creation stories,
and other cultural aspects. Another unique elements of the Asian performing arts is the incorporation of
dance, drama, and music into one artistic master piece.

Below are some elements and principles of famous Asian festivals and theaters.

• Japanese Bugaku court dance, theatre of Noh and Kyogen. These performing arts feature a traditional
dance-drama forms. Westerners admire the high literary content (myths and legends), the intricate dance
movements and traditional music that are infused in these arts.

• Classical Indian Dances. In the Natyashastra, a Sankist handbook of performing arts, Indian dances not only
include elements on Indian mythology (Gods and Goddesses) but also heroes and heroines. The principle of
sanchari bhava (improvisation and interpretation) gives the artist, creator, and actor the freedom to modify
their art forms.
Select Songs and Instrumental Pieces in Asia
▪ Pinpeat is a Cambodian orchestra that plays along ceremonial music of the royal courts and temples. This
instrument is made up of wood and membranophone.

▪ Sep Nyai and Sep Noi are just some of the two forms of classical music in Lao. Sep Nyai is played with two
gongs, xylophone, oboe, two kettle drums and cymbals. Seo Noi, on the other hand, consists of two bowed
string instruments, the So U and the So I.

▪ Sitar, a string instrument with a pear-shaped body and a long hollow wooden neck. This instrument is very
famous in India and around the world as it was being appeared to some of the famous band in Western Era.

▪ Odaiko, Tzumuzi, Tzuridako and Taiko are popular percussion instruments in Japan. String instruments are
popular too like Koto,Shamisen, and Biwa. Some Japanese wind instruments are shukuhachi, nokan,
hichiriki, sho, shinobue and ryuteki.

▪ There are two Division of Vocal Music in Israel. Devotion and Secular. They were perform during communal
worships, life passage and entertainment. Some of Israel musical instruments are goblet, oud, darbuk, jewish
lyre, toft and shofar.

An artwork is any creative function that can be in a form of a painting, drawing,
sculpture, photograph, etc. that is created to express an important idea or feeling.
Art serves a specific function role in our society. There are five common functions of
art:
