2. Classroom rules

For our classroom rules, it will be simple.

Eyes on teacher
Ears for listening
Mouth stays closed unless being told to speak
Hands for raising questions

Any questions?

Since we have classroom rules, we also have our

classpoint etiquette.

Be respectful
Be honest
Be reasonable

3. Motivation / Review

How are we all feeling today? Are we good? Yes Teacher.

So for today’s class, we will be utilizing classpoint. So

I want everyone to join our class in classpoint.app
using the code MECH6. This will also serve as your
attendance for today.

Everyone already in? Did you access the classpoint?

So before we start with the lesson, let’s play first a Me Teacher.

game. Who here likes cars?

Okay. I guess everyone likes cars. So I have toy cars.

Please get one and pass the box to your classmate so
that everyone can have a car.

This game is a simple car racing. Whoever’s car is Yes teacher.

farthest wins. Do you understand?

Okay. So now lets play.

(after the game)

Okay. So are you all energized now that we’ve played

a game?
Possible answers:
What have you noticed with the cars? What tool is Key
used to start a car which also comes along with our Engine
toy today? I don’t know

Very good. It comes with a key because keys start a Possible answers:
car. But there are cars that are keyless. Some cars Key
use remote, what do you think will make a car run? Engine
I don’t know

Very good. The engine. So do you know that every car

has an engine or a machine?

These engines or machines starts the car and helps

the car run.

In connection to our discussion last meeting, which

was about energy, what do you think is a type of Possible answers:
energy that a car with engine or machines produce? Mechanical Energy
Any idea? I don’t know

So an object or product that has an engine or machine

produces mechanical energy.

Now, I want you to write in the classpoint your idea

about mechanical energy since this has been
discussed in your 5th grade, I want to know what you
might have remembered back then. You can write a
sentence or just a word and then we will evaluate your
answers. I will give you 2 minutes to input your ideas.

 DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES

1. Presentation

Wow, I can see that you have some ideas with

regards about mechanical energy. So today our topic
is about mechanical energy.

Can someone please read the definition of mechanical Jhona: Is a form of energy possessed by a
energy? Anyone? Yes Jhona. moving object or energy stored in the
structure of the object due to it’s position

Thank you so much Jhona. Now, Aljen what have you Aljen: Mechanical energy is in every object
understood in this definition?

You are right Aljen.

Japheth. By that definition, what key words are we Japheth: energy stored in moving object or
going to keep in mind? object in it’s position

Very good Japheth. Mechanical energy is in every

object may they still objects or objects in motion.

Now, can I have Jonalyn to please read this Jonalyn: Ability to move or to do work
definition?

Thank you so much Jonalyn. Mary Grace, what do you Mary Grace: maka move or maka work and
understand by this definition? mechanical energy teacher

Very good Mary Grace. Mechanical energy makes an

object move or do work. Now to correlate the two
definitions, what can we get? Any idea? Trisha. Trisha: Mechanical energy is energy stored
in objects may they be in motion or in their
position that will make then move or do work.

Very good Trisha. Mechanical energy is energy stored

in every object may they be in motion or still which will
make that object move.

Do you have any ideas of objects that can be related

to mechanical energy?

So this toy car that we played earlier, this is an

example of a product or object being produced by
mechanical energy.

Now, who can explain as to why this is an example of Possible answers:

a mechanical energy? Because it has engine
Because it has machine
2. Looking for Relationship Because it moves

So this toy car is an example of a product with

mechanical energy because
first, it has engine
Second, because of the engine it will move

As I’ve said earlier, every object has an energy but

only objects with mechanical energy can move or do
work. Did you understand my explanation? Yes teacher.

Very well.
I have here some examples of mechanical energy in
some objects but it is in a puzzle style. Anyone who
would like to answer the first example or puzzle?
(after solving the puzzle)

So what is the answer? A man riding a bicycle.

So what can you observe from this moving picture?

How can we relate it to mechanical energy?

Does the bicycle has engine? Yes teacher.

So since a car can move using a key or a fuel, how By pedal.

does a bicycle move?

Very good. So how can we relate it to mechanical

energy?

If we pedal on the bike, the machine will turn which will

make the bicycle move. So going back here in our
definition, the bicycle possessed mechanical energy
as it is moving due to the rider pedalling on it which
makes it move or do work. Did you understand? Yes teacher.

Moving on to the next example. Anyone who would

like to solve?
(after solving the puzzle)

So what do you after solving the puzzle? A watch.

So what can you observe from this moving picture?

How can we relate it to mechanical energy?

Does this watch have engine?

So since a car needs a key or fuel, a bicycle needs a

man in order for them move, what do you think will

make a watch move? Possible answers:

Battery
None
So how can we relate it to mechanical energy?

So going back to the car, it needs to have a key or

fuel, the bicycle it needs to be pedaled, now with a
watch, it needs a battery. The battery helps the watch
produce mechanical energy in order for the engine or
the machine in it to work.

Now to next example. Who wants to solve this?

So what is the answer?

How can we relate this to mechanical energy?

Going back, the car needs key or fuel for it to run, the
bicycle needs a rider to pedal, the watch needs a
battery, now the fan, what does it need? Possible answer:
Electricity

Very good. There are some objects or products that

requires an electricity para maka work sya or maka
move.

Now, let’s solve the last one.

What is the answer?

How can we relate this to mechanical energy?

Going back, the car needs key or fuel for it to run, the
bicycle needs a rider to pedal, the watch needs a
battery, now the fan needs electricity, what do you
think a windmill needs?

Very good. It needs wind. The wind possesses

mechanical energy that makes the machine of a
windmill turn. So as the wind makes the turbine move,
it generates electricity. So if a fan needs electricity to
generate wind, the windmill needs wind to generate
electricity.

Have you seen a windmill in real life before?

So a windmill, it looks like this. What can you

observe? Are they big?

Yes. They are big, and they are supposed to be like

that in order to produce what is called a wind energy.
Do you have any idea what is wind energy?

So wind energy is this. . can I have someone to read

what is the definition of wind energy?

Thank you so much. So wind energy is a process by

which the wind is used to generate mechanical power
or electricity. What would be our key word or key point
in this definition?

Ora et Doce!
COLLEGE OF ARTS, SCIENCES AND EDUCATION
ST. PAUL UNIVERSITY DUMAGUETE
Dumaguete City, Philippines Accreditation and Certifying Bodies

Very good. The wind generates mechanical power

and electricity.
3. Consolidating Insights

This wndmill or windturbine generates useful

electricity.

Have you seen anything like this before? A windmill?

Here in our country, we have a windmill area called

the NorthWind Bangui Bay Project which is located in
the municipality of Bangui in Ilocos Norte, northern
part of Luzon. These turbines face the sea, why do
you think so?

Very good. Wind turbines face the sea because it

prevails wind towards land. So if there if enough wind,
it can make the oblique blades turn which has a
connection to a machinery which generates electricity.

Did you understand my explanation? So let me

explain it further using this.

I have a model here of a windmill or windturbine. As

I’ve said earlier, a windmill faces an area which
prevails strong wind that will make the blades turn.
These blades are connected to a machinery which
generates electricity towards a generator and this
generator is what gives off electricity to households or
establishments.
(demonstrate while discussing)

Did you get it na?

Now, I want you to think about life without electricity.

What do you think will happen?

Do you think having a windmill is helpful?

Do you think having a windmill is not helpful?

Now, you will be grouped into 4. This activity is what

we call, Think Square Share.

You will write different advantages and disadvantages

of having a windmill. You will write at least 5
advantages and disadvantages. Now, here’s the
catch.

You will have members who are note-taker and

secretary. The secretary’s role is to write the groups’
idea of the 5 advantages and disadvantages, each
minute the note-takers will go to the each group to
write their notes. After, the note-takers will go back to
the group and discuss it to the members. The
members of the group must make sure that there will
be no same answer with the other groups. After this,
the remaining members will explain to the class their
notes. Am I understood?

 CONCLUDING ACTIVITIES

Now going back, what was again mechanical energy?

Very good. What are some examples of products or

objects that possessed mechanical energy? Give 1
each please. No repetitions.

Very good. Now, we will test your understanding of

today’s lesson.

Note: Insert a rubric if the assessment is performance-based.

 EVALUATION

Answer each question briefly.

1. How can mechanical energy affect human life?

2. How useful is a windmill or wind turbine?
3. If you were to build a house, which would you prefer, a house powered by windmill or by solar
panels?

 ASSIGNMENT

Look for different products or objects found in your house that the mechanical energy is being
powered by electricity.
