video all about. (The class will watch to the Video analysis
video and answer)

This time, what is the video all Ma’am, the man is dancing.
about?

Exactly, the video is about the

man who is dancing in the
running train.
So who can tell me why is it
important for us to move? It is important to move
Ma’am because it is our
nature! Question and Answer

Good! Moving is part of our

life because we are still alive
and we need to move to go to
school, to eat, to live every
day. All of our actions are
called movements.

So who among you are not None ma’am all of us are still
moving here? alive.

Exactly! We are all moving

and kicking.

C. Lesson Presentation

Teachers Activity Students Activity Assessment/ Teaching

Strategy used
From the video that we have
seen a while ago about the
movement, what do you think is
our lesson for today?
Ma’am I think our lesson for
this morning is about
movement.

Yes, that’s good!

Question and Answer
This morning we are going to
discuss about the basic
movements or fundamental
skills which are the locomotor,
non-locomotor and
manipulative skills.

So class please cooperate

because I will give points for
those students who are
participating.
(During the Lesson)

D. Lesson Proper /Presentation (Note: There should be a teacher- student’s intimate

interaction all throughout this phase).

Strategy used
Before anything else, let us define or
understand what fundamental skills
is?
Question and Answer
It is defined as the practical skills that
a child need for living and being
which are sometimes considered
basic or functional. So what do you
mean by this? In your own opinion or
understanding?
As human maam it is our
function to move because
we are living.
Yes! Exactly, So the fundamental
skills are just a proof that we are
functional to the community or in
our environment because it is our
nature to move because we are
living. Discussion method/
Question and answer
method.
What are the three types of
fundamental skills?

The locomotor skills , non-

locomotor skills and
manipulative skills ma’am
Very good! The fundamental skills
are LOCOMOTOR SKILLS , NON-
LOCOMOTOR SKILLS and
MANIPULATIVE SKILLS

Let’s discuss first what is a locomotor

skill? Anyone who can define
locomotor skill?
Locomotor skill ma’am is
moving from one place to
another.
Very well said!
These are Movements that allow us
to move from one point in space to
another.
Question and answer
So from the word locomotor what do
you mean by the word “locos”?

Very good! How about the “motor”? Locos means place maam!

Exactly! Motor means movement. If

Motor means movement
we are going to combine the two it ma’am!
means place movement.

So I have here the examples of the

locomotor skills and the first one is
called STEP it is the transfer of
weight from one foot to the other.
Question and answer
Who can execute in front how to do
step?

Very good! It is like your steps in I can do step maam

your dance presentation right? (executed in front)

The next locomotor movement is

WALK. Who can explain what is
walk? Yes ma’am we are always
using step every day. Discussion method/
Yes! Exactly, it is a series of steps Question and answer
executed by both of your feet method.
alternately in any direction.
Walking maam is moving
We are walking every day and it is you’re both feet
part of the locomotor skill. Are you alternately.
walking? Or you can’t walk?

Exactly! I think all of us is always

walking every day in school or
anywhere.

The next locomotor skill is RUN.

What do you mean by run? Who can Yes ma’am we know how
run here? to walk.

Very good! This is a series of walk

executed quickly in any direction
wherein only one foot stays on the
ground while the other is off the Question and answer
ground.

So running is very easy especially Running maam is like

walking but it is quickly
when you are late in school. All of us
moving.
know how to run right?

Yes of course and running is still part

of locomotor skill because we are
(the students will listen to
moving from one point in space to the discussion of the
another. teacher)

The next locomotor skill is LEAP.

Who can define leap? And can also
execute in front?
Question and answer
Yes, Ma’am especially
when we are playing.
Yes! But you have to spring from one
foot and land at the other foot in any
direction. Who can show me how to
do leap? It’s very simple right?

And leap is still part of locomotor Leap is like jumping

skill beacause of moving to another ma’am.
space.

And the last locomotor skill is JUMP.

Having both feet loose contact with
the ground. So there are different
types of jumping like we can: Question and answer
Yes Ma’am you have to
o Take off from one foot
jump and land to another
and land on the same;
foot.
o Take off from one foot
and land on the other;
o Take off from one foot
and land on both feet;
o Take off from both
feet and land on one
foot;
(the students will listen to
o Take off from both

feet and land on both.
teacher) Question and answer
method.
So jumping is also very familiar to
you and it is part of the locomotor
movement or skills.

So we are always doing all the

locomotor movements/skills
everyday right class? Because we are (the students will listen to Discussion method/
moving and still alive. the discussion of the Question and answer
teacher) method.

So let’s move on to the Non-

Locomotor skills. So what do you
mean by non-locomotor?

Exactly! Non-locomotor skills are (the students will listen to

the discussion of the
movements that are performed in
teacher)
one point in space without
transferring the weight to another
point.
Yes ma’am!
So what do you mean by performed Discussion method/
Question and answer
in one point in space without
method.
transferring?

I think ma’am it is not

Very good! We are still moving but moving to the other space.
we are not going to go to another
area or space. That’s why it’s called
non-locomotor movement.
Discussion method/
Question and answer
method.
We also have the different skills in
non-locomotor movement so the
first one is the FLEXION. What do
you mean by flexion?

It means maam that you

are staying to the place
Exactly! It is the act of decreasing the where you stand.
angle of a joint. Another term for
flexion is to bend. (Ex. Arm bend and
knee bend)

Have you tried flexion?

If we are going to bend our knees or
our arms it is called flexion. Discussion method/
Question and answer
The second non-locomotor method.
movement is called EXTENSION. This
is the opposite flexion. You are It is the act of decreasing
the angle of a joint ma’am.
extending if you are increasing the
angle of a joint. Stretching is another
word for extension.

So who among you are players in any

sports? Or who are exercising every Discussion method/

day?
method.
Yes Ma’am!

Of course we are always using

extension especially in our daily
(the students will listen to
exercises or it is more known as the discussion of the
stretching. Question and answer
teacher)
method.
The next non-locomotor skill is
CONTRACTION this is a muscle
movement done when it shortens,
narrows and tightens using sufficient
amount of energy in the execution.

Example of contraction is when we

are using dumbbells. Or even if you I am exercising ma’am
are going to do this without a because I am playing
softball.
dumbbell.

Question and answer

We also have the next non-
method.
locomotor movement RELEASE is a
muscle movement opposite of
contraction done when it shortens,
(the students will listen to
narrows and tightens using sufficient
the discussion of the
amount of energy in the execution.
teacher)
It is like we are going too relaxed.

The next non-locomotor movement

is COLLAPSE it is to deliberately drop
the exertion of energy into a body Discussion method/
segment. Question and answer
method.
We also have from the non- (the students will listen to
locomotor skill is RECOVER it is the the discussion of the
opposite of collapse. This is to regain teacher)
the energy into a body segment.

We also have ROTATION in non-

(the students will listen to
locomotor skill it is to rotate or to the discussion of the

complete a circle with its motion. We Discussion method
can also have rotation in our dance
right?

It’s not only limited to complete a

circle with its motion. Rotation can
also be done in wrists, waist, knees
and ankles. We can also use rotation
in our daily exercises.

We also have Twist for non- Discussion method

(the students will listen to
locomotor skill. It is to move a body
the discussion of the
segment from an axis hallway front teacher)
or back or quarter to the right or left
as in the twisting of the neck
allowing the head to face right or left
and the like.

And the last non-locomotor skill is

the PIVOT it is to change the
position of the feet or any body part
that carries the body’s weight Discussion method

We have the last fundamental skill

Yes ma’am!
called Manipulative skills.
These are skills developed when
handling and object. Most of these
skills involve the hands and feet but
other parts of the body can also be
used like catching, kicking, throwing
and etc.
So what sport can we used the
manipulative skill? (the students will listen to
the discussion of the
Yes we can used those sports teacher)
Discussion method
example for manipulative skills.
(the students will listen to
the discussion of the
teacher)

Discussion method

Softball ma’am
Basketball ma’am
And taekwondo.

E. Generalization

Teachers Activity Students Activity Assessment/ Teaching

Strategy used
And so, what have we learned this Ma’am, we learned about
morning? the locomotor and non-
locomotor skills

So what do you mean by locomotor Movements that allow us

skill? to move from one point in
space to another

That’s exactly right.

What are the type’s locomotor skills? STEP ,WALK ,RUN , LEAP
and also JUMP Ma’am

How about the meaning of non-

locomotor skill? These are movement that
are performed in one point
in space without
transferring the weight to
another point.
Formative Assessment:
(Oral Questioning –The
Correct! What are non-locomotor
skills? Ma’am we have FLEXION, students were asked
EXTENSION, about the topic that was
CONTRACTION, RELEASE, discussed)
COLLAPSE, RECOVER,
ROTATION, TWIST, PIVOT,
TURN.

How about the Manipulative skills? Most of these skills involve

the hands and feet but
other parts of the body can
also be used like catching,
kicking, throwing and etc.

Excellent! And now you are going to

tell me if the action is for locomotor
or non-locomotor skill.

(the teacher will show a video

presentation of different movements (the students well answer
to measure the understanding of the and guess if the
students) movements are for the
locomotor or non
locomotor skills and
manipulative)

Very good! Nice to hear and know

that you have learned a lot from our
topic today.

IV. Evaluation

The class will be given 2 minutes to scan their notes and after that they will answer
the following questions. They will have the quiz in a ½ cross wise sheet of paper.

1. What do you mean by “locos” and “motor”?

2. Differentiate the locomotor skill and n on-locomotor skill?

3. Give at least 2 examples of locomotor skills?

4. Give at least 2 examples of non-locomotor skills?

5. What do you mean by Manipulative skills?

V. Agreement
Now, I will divide the class into 3groups. We’re going to have an activity with your groups.
Decide with your group mates what you are going to use as your music. Create your own
movements and routine from the different fundamental skills into dance.
