Prayer
I am requesting everyone to please stand for a
prayer. Dear Lord, we gathered here today, with
the intent of doing well in thy name….

Cleanliness and orderliness of the room

Good morning, everyone! Good morning, Ma’am.

Class, pick up the pieces of paper and fix the chairs. (The students will pick the pieces of paper and
will fix the chairs.)

Checking of attendance
Class, are you in your proper seats? Yes Ma’am.

Okay very good. Who are absent today? None ma’am.

Collecting of the assignments/giving of the quiz results

You have an assignment, right? Yes Ma’am.

Okay, pass it to the front without standing. (The students will pass the papers without
standing)

Okay, here are the results of your quiz yesterday and

some of you got a perfect score. You can get it here after
the discussion. Yes Ma’am.
PRE – TEACHING
 REVIEW
Class, what was our previous topic?
Our previous topic was all about the
fundamental positions of arms and feet.
Precisely!
Who can enumerate and execute those fundamental
positions of arms and feet?
(The students will enumerate and execute the
fundamental positions of arms and feet.
Very good, it seems like you really learned from our
past discussion.
 MOTIVATION
Class, I will show you a video and all you have to do
is to watch attentively, and list down your
observations specifically their movements because
later on, I will call students to answer my questions. Is
that clear?
Yes Ma’am.

Okay, what have you observed about the video?

About festival dance
Very good. What kind of festival dance?
Non-religious festival
Yes, that’s right. What have you observed about their
movements?
They performed a lot of movements.
Nice idea, and what kind of movements are those?
There were two types of movements that I
have observed. The movements that are
moving from one place to another and the
other movements are in stationary.
Precisely, can anyone enumerate the movements that
you have listed?
Running, walking, jumping, sliding, bending,
turning, swinging.
Definitely!
 PRESENTATION
Based from the video that you have watched, what do
you call that movement of moving from one place to
another? In science, it is called kinetic, meaning
movement of an object.
Locomotor skills/movement.
Very Good idea. How about the movements that are
staying at one place only?
Those are non- locomotor skills/ movements.
Very good, these locomotor and non- locomotor skills
are the basic natural movements to be discussed today.
Wherein, you are expected to:
a. Identify and differentiate the locomotor and non-
locomotor skills involved in a dance.
b. Appreciate the importance of locomotor and non-
locomotor skills used, not only in dancing but in
our everyday living.
c. Create a short routine using the locomotor and
non- locomotor skills.

LESSON PROPER
A. Activity
This time, I need volunteers to come in front to pick
one movement to be posted on the board. But you have
to classify it first whether it is under locomotor or non-
locomotor skills. Then, we will check your activity and
every movement must be executed by the one who
posted it. Am I clear?
Yes Ma’am.
LOCOMOTOR SKILLS NON- LOCOMOTOR SKILLS
Stepping Leaping Bending
Walking Skipping Stretching (The students will perform the activity)
Running Sliding Twisting
Jumping Galloping Swinging
Hopping Vibrating
B. Analysis
Okay class, how was your activity?
Very interesting.
It’s good to hear. Are you sure that your answers are
correct?
Yes Ma’am.
Not really.
Why? Was it hard for you in classifying those
movements?
A little bit Ma’am, because we are not that
familiar with the other terms.
Well, let’s see.
(The teacher will check if the terms are in its proper
place).
Well, most of you got a correct answer. Let’s give 3
claps for everyone.
After doing the activity, how can you differentiate
locomotor skills from non- locomotor skills?
Locomotor skills are movements that are
moving from one place to another while the
non- locomotor skills are movements that are
stationary.
Absolutely!
C. Abstraction
It seems like you already have knowledge about the
basic natural movements, but for further information we
will discuss each.
Locomotor skills are movements that incorporate
traveling from one point to another. While the non-
locomotor skills are movements that are stationary.

Locomotor and non- locomotor skills are only under

fundamental skills meaning, practical skills that a
child need for living and being which are sometimes
considered basic or functional.

(Before discussing every movement, the teacher will

always ask the student who posted the movement to
perform the skill in place).

EXAMPLES OF LOCOMOTOR SKILLS:

*Stepping- a transfer of weight

from one foot to the other.
(The students will perform every movement/
skill).
*Walking- a series of steps
executed by both of your feet
alternately in any direction.

*Running- series of walk executed

quickly in any direction wherein only
one-foot stays on the ground while the
other is off the ground.

*Jumping- Springing from one or

both feet and landing on both feet.

*Leaping- springing from one foot and

landing on the other foot in any direction.

*Hopping- springing from one foot

and landing on the same foot.
*Skipping- a combination of step and hop in
faster pace.

*Galloping- one foot is

leading and the other foot
follows.

*Sliding- a step from one foot closing the other foot

to meet the lead foot.

EXAMPLES OF NON- LOCOMOTOR SKILLS:

*Bending/ Flexion- movements of the

joint to form a curve or angular position.

*Stretching/ Extension- moving

the body parts away from the center
of the body.

*Twisting- the rotation of a body

part along its axis.

*Swinging- motion of a body part

resembling a pendulum.

*Vibrating- moving the body part Stepping, walking, running, jumping, leaping,
repeatedly in even motions. hopping, skipping, sliding, and galloping.

We are done discussing all the basic natural

movements. Could anyone enumerate the examples Bending, swinging, stretching, vibrating, and
under locomotor movements? twisting.

Exactly, how about the examples of non- locomotor

skills?
Well, that’ s good.
D. APPLICATION
Okay, now that you already knew all about the basic Yes Ma’am.
natural movements, may I request everyone to stand and
extend your arms sideward to create your own space.
This time, you will follow my command by executing the
skills or movements that I will be asking. Am I clear?
(The students will follow the teacher’s
Okay. command)
 Take four steps forward alternately.
 Twist your body sideward right.
 Twist your body sideward left.
 Reach your knees.
 Jump three times.
 Take 2 leaps sideward left and right.
 Run 10 times in place.
Very good, class. Let’s give a round of applause to
each and every one. Upon knowing and understand all the
locomotor movements, I may say that having

our everyday living?
Those skills also help us to be more
productive in a way that we can do things that
is natural for a human being.

Yes, you’re right. Any other answer? Non- locomotor skills are very much
important specially in some skills needed in
sports like throwing the ball, blocking, hitting
the ball and etc.
How about the importance of non- locomotor skills? Non- locomotor skills are good for enhancing
the body posture.

Both locomotor and non- locomotor

movements are important in a dance
presentation for it add more beauty and

Basically, those skills are used in maintaining

our body in becoming physically fit by using it
as exercises in daily activities, like in Zumba
Precisely! How about the importance of those skills in dance and yoga. We do some movements that
maintaining a healthy lifestyle? incorporates both skills.

Exactly. They are both important not only in dancing

but in our everyday living. Maybe you found it basic and
simple topic. But sometimes, we need to reconsider
things that are simple for us to move forward and be Yes Ma’am.
prepared on the complicated things that we may face in
the future. That’ s why, it is very important to still begin
with the simple one for you to have a strong foundation.

POST- TEACHING
E. EVALUATION
The class will be divided into four, each group will
create a short routine containing the locomotor and
non-locomotor skills discussed. I will only give you
10 minutes to do the task, and after the given
allotted time, you will present it in front. Your
presentation will be judged according to the criteria.
Am I clear?
Yes Ma’am.
