A TEENAGE GIRL'S eyes on the car's mirror. Then she crosses

her feet on the car's headrest.

LOOKING IN: LUDOVIKA (LUDO) VALENTINO (17), A Russian-

American actress and singer, takes in the view of Italy,
coming from New York.

Her dad, YURI VALENTINO (40), an indie actor from Moscow,

Russia, is driving the car.

YURI
Look at that view. Beautiful.

Ludo looks out on the car's window.

YURI (CONT'D)
We're here.

EXT. VILLA FIRENZE - OUTSIDE

She steps out of the car, looks around the garden and runs
to the villa. Her dad follows and gets their luggages.

INT. VILLA FIRENZE - INSIDE

We hear: "La Boheme" by Charles Anzavour

She enters through the villa that her film crew rented for
the summer and looks around the living room. Her dad answers
a phone call with his fellow indie actors while carrying
their luggage. Ludo runs into the stairs to find her room

LUDO
(excited)
Where's my room, papa?

YURI
On the right!

INT. INT. VILLA FIRENZE - LUDO'S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Ludo learning her lines for tomorrow's first day of

shooting. Tired, she sneaks out of the villa to go to a
party.

LUDO
How do you know what's good for me?
Why don't you just- Why don't you
just lea-... Fuck.

She gets fed up with memorizing lines and thought about

going out instead.

EXT. VIA APPIA ANTICA - LATER THAT NIGHT

SUPERIMPOSE TITLE: FIRENZE

We hear: Italian music played by street musicians

I/E. TAXI - CONTINUOUS

She looks our the car's window and looks at the streets of
Florence. It's her stop.

LUDO
(to the driver)
Grazie.

EXT. VIA APPIA ANTICA - CONTINOUS

She walks around and looks around the streets not really
knowing where to go since it's her first time in the
country.

BANCARELLA DI PITTURA - CONTINUOUS

VIEGO FERROS (24), a young French-Italian painter with

tousled brunette hair, sees Ludo. Dumbfounded by the girl,
he starts painting her silhouette on his canvas. Her eyes
pivot and clock Viego behind his easle and locks eyes with
him for a second. Then, he realizes that she's walking in
his direction. He quickly turns his gaze away from her and
pretends to paint the scenery instead. She walks behind him
and peeks at his canvas. She realizes that he's painting
her.

LUDO
Is that me? Are you painting me?

VIEGO
(shy, defensive)
What? No.

She moves closer to the painting. He gets nervous.

LUDO
Pretty sure that's my dress.

VIEGO
Uh... it's um...

LUDO
So you just paint people without
their permission and sell it?

VIEGO
Che? No! This is not you. I swear
to god.

She laughs and loosens up.

LUDO
I was just messing with you! I
don't mind. The colors are
beautiful.

He's dumbfounded by her. He doesn't know what to say.

LUDO (CONT'D)

She smiles as she walks away. He smiles back at her and

realizes that he forgot to ask what her name was. Viego's
friend, BRUNO RUSSO (20) walks by, he notices a girl walking
away from him.

BRUNO
Non sapevo che avessi una ragazza /
I didn't know you had a girlfriend.

VIEGO
Quella non era la mia ragazza,
idiota / That wasn't my girlfriend,

BRUNO

Bruno laughs and gets back to his stall. Viego looks at the
canvas and continues painting.

EXT. MOVIE SET - DAY

It's the first day of filming.

DIRECTOR

She walks towards her costar.

LUDO

EXT. FLORENCE CARNIVAL - NIGHT

They meet again at a carnival.

EXT. FLORENCE PARTY - NIGHT

VIEGO
May I have this dance?

He brings her at the back then they almost make out then
Ludo kind of runs out of breath because them kissing was so
intense so she pushes him back a little bit

We hear: "Chanel Perfume" by Derik Fein

VIEGO (CONT'D)
Do you wanna go upstairs?

She's breathing hardly and nods They run to the stairs

holding hands with him leading her to the room

INT. THE ROOM UPSTAIRS - CONTINUOUS

They barge in; he turns and kisses her. Ecstatic, if not

sloppy... and as they catch their breath with the hint of
something more to come...

They go inside the room, they kiss passionately, he carries

her and she leans on the wall and the picture frame on the

fall tilts but they ignore it then he lays her down on the

desk.

INT. THE ROOM UPSTAIRS - MORNING

They're asleep in bed. Her head laying on his chest then-

Bruno barges in.

Hey, lovebirds! Wake up! My parents
are almost here!

They wake up and rushes to get dressed. They run outside

while holding hands.

EXT. VILLA FIRENZE

He walks her to the villa she's staying at.

EXT. BANCARELLA DI PITTURA - DAY

He comes to their painting stall late. Still in his shirt

from last night. Bruno still recovering from the party but
he notices that Viego's in a good mood this morning.

BRUNO

VIEGO
(smiles)
I thought Carlo's helping us with
the stall today?

BRUNO

EXT. FILM CREW'S VILLA RENTAL - LATER

He's outside the villa because she hasn't been answering his
calls. One of her cast mates sees him.

MAX
Hey! Are you new here?

VIEGO

Max raises her eyebrows.

MAX

VIEGO

MAX

He enters her room and finds her in bed, peaceful, asleep

She startles awake to see Jack, there in her bedroom, on her
bed, in her life.

VIEGO
Max told me where your room was.

LUDO
(trying to make sense of

They kiss and hold each other. Suddenly, this fairytale is

real.

LUDO (CONT'D)
I gotta be on set today.

VIEGO

You have to be one of the extras.

They go on a road trip to Rome. Viego renting a shitty car.

tells him that Ludo's in the shower

then ludo and her dad have a talk

She gets a sense that he's lying. She looks back at the

They go to a cathedral and acts out their future wedding.

She wears a white sundress and he's wearing a white long
sleeve polo.

INT. ITALY REHAB FACILITY FOR MINORS - DAY

He and his dad is arguing. She comes in his room.

LUDO

They stop yelling. She realizes now is not the perfect

timing. She notices him crying.

LUDO (CONT'D)
Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know you
were with-

Viego runs up to her arms with tears in his face.

ALBERTO
No, it's okay. We were just having
a little talk.

She takes him outside his room.

They were fighting about how she has to go to LA to film

then they stop at a random hill. She gets out of the car. He
breaks down crying.

LUDO
You're not being fair, Viego!

Yeah? Well, I'm sorry I just really
fucking need my girlfriend right

LUDO
Get out of the car. Come here!

He hesitates. She pulls him out of the car and hugs him.

VIEGO

LUDO

She pulls away and holds his face.

LUDO (CONT'D)

INT. FLORENCE CATHEDRAL

They go to a cathedral and acts out their future wedding.

She wears a white sundress and he's wearing a white long
sleeve polo.

INT. NYC JAZZ CLUB - NIGHT

He visits her in New York to see her perform. He was so

proud to see that she made it because the bar was full and
the whole crowd was there to see her. She sang
'Clandestinely'. She wrote the song about their
relationship. He came in the middle of her performance. She
doesn't notice him because he was at the back of the club.
Ludo finishes the song and goes off the stage. She's talking
to her manager and record executives on the side of room but
he's trying to find him. He approaches her. She couldn't
believe it was him. Her first love.

VIEGO
Excuse me, Helvetica? I'm a big
fan, can I get an autograph?

She didn't expect to see him again. She never thought he

would ever leave Florence.

LUDO
Of course.

VIEGO
Thank you.

They spend the night together in ludo's apartment. Viego

leaves.

VIEGO
My flight's in an hour.

LUDO
But you just got here.

VIEGO
I have to get to Rome.

LUDO
Stay. Come with me to Manhattan.
Let me show you New York.

INT. VIEGO'S BROOKLYN RESTAURANT - NIGHT

He asks her to have dinner with him at the restaurant he's

working at.

LUDO
Hi.

VIEGO
Hey. You're early.

LUDO
Yeah, I haven't eaten all day so...
couldn't wait. She looks around.

LUDO (CONT'D)
Why is this place empty?

VIEGO
I wanted to have the whole
restaurant to ourselves so, I asked
my boss if it could... just be us
tonight.

VIEGO

She laughs.

VIEGO (CONT'D)
Right. Well, food's not ready yet

She goes into the kitchen and he finds him cooking.

LUDO

VIEGO

She smiles.

picks up the pace and moves faster. She walks closer to him

She stops him and kisses him. He pulls away. Her hands are
on his chest. She looks up to him and caresses his face.

She leaves the kitchen and goes to their table.

INT. VIEGO'S BROOKLYN APARTMENT

LUDO
Hey, wanna come with me cali? I
have this audition next Thursday
and they're gonna give me a hotel
room, they're paying for everything
so we don't have to worry about it.

VIEGO

LUDO

VIEGO
You know what, I'm hungry, what do

Viego's working on one of his paintings. Ludo's at the piano

writing another song.

VIEGO
God. Ludo, can you just stop the

LUDO

VIEGO

You should come to the art exhibit

Bruno's hosting.

LUDO
I don't know, I have to check the
tour dates.

VIEGO

about the piece?

LUDO

I thought it was great.

VIEGO

I think it's the most terrible
piece of art I've ever seen. And
lazy. I've never seen a more boring
painting. I didn't know what I was
looking at. And the thing that
really upsets me, is you don't even
realize what a horrible horrible
artist you are. Honestly it's
laughable. And your impressionism
have about as much depth as one of
your sketches which is obviously
stolen by fucking Monet. Oh, sorry,
I mean "inspired". No colors, no
substance. Oh, but when it comes to
a different kind of substance,
you're a fucking expert. And it's
just so hard for you to avoid a
cliche as it is for you to avoid a
fucking drink. And that's saying
something because it's 10 am you're

this hole at your little stool,
your filthy shirt, with your stupid
art. IT'S PATHETIC! I don't know

Ludo visits Viego in rehab. He sees her walking down the

corridor. She runs into his arms.

VIEGO
You smell good.

LUDO
You smell good. And you look good,

Ludo and Viego sitting across from each other at a table,

both looking out the window.

VIEGO
I've been cooking again.

LUDO
Oh, are you the chef in here?

VIEGO
No, I'm just one of the cooks.

She laughs, trying to break the tension.

VIEGO (CONT'D)
How have you been? How's
the...music thing?

LUDO
Fun. It's been good.

His mood changes.

VIEGO
I feel like I'm in prison.

LUDO
Just one more week then we can go
home

VIEGO
(scoffs)

LUDO

The day after, she visits him again. She brings him his
favorite meal for lunch.

She laughs nervously.

LUDO (CONT'D)
Um, if you want me to go then I'll
be on my way and I'll let you...get
back.

He doesn't say a word. She starts to walk away.

VIEGO
Ludo.

He grabs her hand and embraces her.

EXT. NYC REHAB PARK - LATER

They're sitting at the bench.

VIEGO

She hands him his painting. It's the painting that he did
when he first saw her in Florence. He looks at it...
Remembering that he hasn't finished it yet.

LUDO (CONT'D)
You hiding paintings?

VIEGO
No. That was... uh...that was years
ago, that painting. That was the
night we met.

LUDO
I remember. I caught you paintingme
without my permission.

He laughs but remembers something.

VIEGO
I just thought if I never finish
it, maybe you'd want to... paint it
with me. Like we used to.

LUDO
I'd love that.

A beat... she puts the painting back into her bag.

He relapses and started doing drugs and drinking again. She

was angry at him because she felt like she has to take care
of him again instead of just focusing more on her career and
she really thought that he had changed. She also met this
music producer who was big in the industry and he promised
her that he'll help her start her music career then Viego
got jealous. One night, ludo was on set filming and Viego
visits her. She had to take a break from set because
security won't let him in because he was drunk. Her director
was so mad at her but she still prioritized him.

They argue at the back of the sound stage about how he wants
her to move back with him to italy. He was saying some
fucked up shit about her career and he told her that she'll
be better off without him and that he should've never left
italy for her. She got upset at him and told him to fuck
off. He took all the things she said out of anger to heart
and that really made him feel even more horrible so he went
drunk driving in his motorbike and got into an accident. She
got a call from the hospital and she got so paranoid and so
she left the set to see him. She felt like it was her fault.

INT. NYC HOSPITAL - NIGHT

She wrote a letter to him because he wouldn't let her visit

him in the hospital. He reads her letter in silent.

LUDO (V.O.)
(in the letter)
My love, I haven't stopped thinking
about you. You made me so worried,
I could barely think about anything
else. I just want you to know that
I'm sorry for everything I said on
the phone. I didn't mean any of it.
I can't lose you. Please, let me
visit you or just write back to me
if you can. I can't wait to be in
your arms again. I love you more
than anything. Your Ludo.

INT. BROOKLYN HOSPITAL - NIGHT

She visits him. He's asleep. She grabs a chair and sits
close to his bedside. She holds his calloused hand and
caresses his face. He wakes up.

LUDO
Hey. How are you feeling?
(beat)
You okay?

He looks at her with a blank stare.

VIEGO
I'm fine.
(beat)
I got your letter.

She smiles then looks down holding back her tears.

LUDO
I'm sorry...

His eyebrows furrowed and lifted his hands beneath the

blankets and holds her hand as she cries.

LUDO (CONT'D) (CONT'D)

You really scared me.

VIEGO
I'm sorry...

LUDO
No. I'm sorry for what I said. I
didn't mean any of it.

He nods. The Doctor walks in.

DOCTOR
His body is still recovering. He
has some minor injuries, luckily
it's not that bad but you still
have to look after him. And... it's
best to consider rehab as anoption.

INT.

She cuts his hair.

INT.

LUDO
So, the doctor said, as soon as you
can start walking again, you have
to go back to... I'll take you
there and I'll visit you everyday.

VIEGO
Ludo, I'm not going to fucking
rehab.

LUDO
I know you don't want to, but-

VIEGO
No, fuck that. I'm going back to
Florence whether you come with me
or not.

LUDO
(beat)
Please, don't say that.

VIEGO
I'm tired of begging you to come
with me.

LUDO
Then, I-I'll go wherever you want.

VIEGO
Stop. Let's just... fuck it, let's
just end this. All of this. He gets
up from his chair. She sheds a
tear.

LUDO
(beat)
You don't mean that. He stares at
the floor and walks away.

VIEGO
Just go.

She stands up and grabs his hand.

LUDO
Viego... Viego!

She embraces him from behind.

LUDO (CONT'D)
Let's go to Florence. Okay? I'll
pack my things. Please, just don't
say that.

VIEGO
Just forget it.

LUDO
No, please.

She hugs him tightly and sobs. He couldn't help but regret
his words. He turns around and caresses her face. She looks
down.

LUDO (CONT'D)
I don't wanna go. I wanna be with
you.

VIEGO
Just go home and I'll see you
tomorrow, alright? Hey.

He holds her chin up.

VIEGO (CONT'D)
Tomorrow. Just you and me.

LUDO
Promise?

VIEGO
I promise.

He wipes her tears.

VIEGO (CONT'D)
Go home.

LUDO
You are my home.

He kisses her forehead.

LUDO (CONT'D)
I love you. Please, say it back.

VIEGO
You know, I love you.
(beat)
I'll see you tomorrow, okay?

She nods.

INT. VIEGO'S BROOKLYN APARTMENT - AFTERNOON

LUDO
Your hair's getting shaggy.

VIEGO
Yeah, Bruno said I should shave it.

LUDO
(laughs)
No. You want me to cut it?

VIEGO
I'd like that.

She's cutting his hair just like she always do.

INT. VIEGO'S BROOKLYN APARTMENT - NIGHT

Viego prepares a Candlelit dinner at the dining table just

for the two of them. He plans to finally propose to her.

VIEGO
I bought that ring before you left.
never thought of pawning it… ‘cause
I thought you’d… come back,
somehow. But then a couple months
became a year so I followed you
here. Then I saw you singing and…
you were happier than ever.
(MORE)

VIEGO (CONT'D)
Maybe I shouldn’t have come back
‘cause I just ruined everything for
you.

LUDO
Viego... you didn't.

VIEGO
No. You... you deserve someone
better. Someone who's not gonna
drag you down, someone who's not
won't embarrass you.

LUDO
I'm not embarrassed of you.

INT.

The last scene is intense. A few weeks after his death, she
was still in denial and she was crying everyday but she
wasn't having intense breakdowns yet. So, all that rage and
grief was building up when she discovers that he was gonna
propose to her when she found the ring hidden in the one of
his painting's canvas, the one that they painted together
when they were at their lowest point at their whole
relationship right before he died, she finally broke down.

EXT. VIEGO'S BROOKLYN APARTMENT - AFTERNOON

LOOKING IN. Ludo looking out. The garage in the distance...

Her roots have grown out, showing the natural brunette, the
markings of the Ludo we met at the beginning... Her eyes
transfixed on the art room below. The room is a complete
mess.

MONTAGE OF MEMORY FRAGMENTS

We hear: Nocturne (Interlude) by Laufey

The night they first met, their first dance, when she moved
into his apartment, when she left him for New York, them
arguing at the empty streets at midnight, him watching her
perform, her visiting him in Florence after 5 years, them
sitting at the pavement and talking, her visiting him in
rehab and him sitting behind her at the piano

HARD CUT TO:

INT. VIEGO'S BROOKLYN APARTMENT - ART ROOM - LATER

Ludo stares at VIEGO'S PAINTINGS. Something building inside

her. And then, she snaps -- CRASH! She begins smashing them,
glass flying in a rampage, she splashes red paint all over
his unfinished canvases. She notices something fall out of
the canvas' border. She picks it up and she realizes that
it's an ENGAGEMENT RING that he tried to give her years ago.
She sits on the same stool they sat together as she cries.

SAME SCENE - LATER

Ludo sits cradling the engagement ring amongst everything

broken and smashed, including his first painting... she
starts humming a song.

WE HEAR: MUSIC FADES IN "BEAUTIFUL BOY"

HARD CUT TO:

FLASHBACK - INT. VIEGO'S ART ROOM - SUNSET

This scene was a few weeks right before he passed. She's

sitting on his lap while his painting. She's singing while
their both working on the canvas.

LUDO (PRELAP)
(singing)
'Oh, my beautiful boy, I still hear
your voice Fights are over, we're
laughing Over all the noise.'
Satisfied, she puts down her
paintbrush.

VIEGO
You done?

She stops singing.

LUDO
Mhm. What do you think?

VIEGO
I love what you did but maybe I
messed up the colors. She caresses
his hair.

LUDO
The colors are beautiful.

She continues the song, this time she sings it to him. Their
heads touch as she kisses his forehead. and let the final
note slowly ring out.

CUT BACK TO:

ART ROOM (PRESENT)

Ludo looks up and then straight TOWARDS us, the audience...

and a star is born.
