INTRODUCTION

Over the last several years, it cannot be denied that our news media consumption
has had an impact on our everyday lives. From the COVID-19 pandemic to political and
societal issues, it can be hard to feel that there are any good news sources out there
anymore. This situation created great distress and new challenges in our everyday
lives, and negative news has also affected the way we think, behave, and make
decisions in our daily lives.

It is for this reason that we want to heighten the awareness of everyone as well when
it comes to the sharing and consumption of good news. Several recent studies have
proven that sharing and consuming good news media positively impacts our mental
and physical health. Hearing and sharing positive news has been proven to decrease
anxiety, motivate us to positive action, boost our mood and outlook, improve our
relationships, help us adapt after difficult situations, and even improve heart health.

REFLECTION (To be answered upon the completion of the authentic task)

1. What did you personally learn or realize about yourself and about our lessons
through this activity?

I realized that I can actually do the things that I thought were difficult. I got intimidated
because I am not fluent enough in Tagalog to conduct an interview. But in the end, I was
able to accomplish it through the support of my parents and teacher.

2. If you are to rate your level of involvement or participation in this activity, with 1
being the lowest and 5 being the highest, what score will you give yourself and
why? Explain by citing your contributions.

I will give myself 5 out of 5. It is because I know that I gave my 101% in accomplishing this
task. Even though there were some parts that I needed some help with , such as
translation of difficult Tagalog words, I believe that my effort deserves a perfect level of
involvement for this assessment.

SPECIFICATION OF TASKS

I. My Faith Journal on Optimism and Gratitude (Christian Life Education)

After learning about the Biblical concept and truth, it is now time to do your Faith
Journal. A faith journal is one way for you to breathe and reconnect yourself to your
heart. It is one way of developing spiritual discipline so that faith, love, and hope can
take a tangible space in your life.

Directions: As you perform this practice, it is important that we carefully consider the
instructions and the guide questions so that we can fully acquire the benefits of this
experience. You can also set a quiet place for yourself and prepare the materials you
will be needing so that internal processing will not be hampered.

Reading: Read, meditate, and contemplate on the given passages or story.

CLE Lecture on Optimism and Gratitude pp. 1-16

The Ten Lepers (Luke 17:11-19)

Which part of the passage is speaking to you?

What are your personal insights or about Optimism and Gratitude? How do you
define each trait

Is being optimistic in life important? Why?

Is being grateful important? Why?

What do you think is the message of God to you behind these lessons?

Answer: Minimum of 15 lines for each.

On Optimism

This passage contains a vivid idea of gratitude to God and to all things that He
blesses us. The part where Jesus says "were not ten made clean?" was
speaking to me the most because even though God granted them blessings
and 9 of them didn’t come to thank God back, He wasn’t looking at the bad side
but questioned the person in a polite way. It was possible for God to confront
and punish them but Jesus didn’t choose that way and looked at the brighter
side of the situation instead. I personally think that the concept of an
optimistic mindset requires a lot of mental strength because being optimistic
means to endure all the negative influences on your spirit and overcome it to
change the angle of viewing the world. Optimism is one of the most important
things to keep in mind in striving for your life because it enables your faith and
beliefs to open into a wider branch of understanding God’s blessings for all of
us. I believe that God let me know and learn about optimism so that I will be
able to stand up whenever I struggle and I’m at the edge of a cliff. I also take
this lesson as advice from God that I should not just keep in my mind but in my
spirit also to feel God’s love more happily.

On Gratitude

When I see this passage through a grateful view, I was able to know that this
passage is telling us an important message from God about thanking things
after being helped. The part from the passage that was provoking my feelings
is where Jesus said “Get up and go on your way; your faith has made you well.”.
It is because I understood this part as a reward from God for thanking Him back
while the other 9 didn’t and a sign of the message that Jesus, no matter who
we were and who we are going to be, loves us. I think that whenever we take
things as something that of course should be there, we are missing the
opportunity to realize the presence and get close to Jesus. God has given the
whole world countless blessings but if we don’t be grateful for it even though it
is easy for us to do, I believe that God will be unhappy about it. That is why
gratitude is a hard but definitely an important key to unlock the ways and
understand God’s love more. My interpretation of the message of this passage
is that there are a lot of things that God blessed us but we don’t even get to
realize and be grateful for. God wants us to be spiritually mature to realize the
true meaning of life by feeling and experiencing the life He gave us, so that
when death has come, He can take us with Him to His land.

Reflecting: Do internal processing and relate the passage with your own
understanding and experiences.

How do you feel after meditating on the lessons, passages or story?

Do you see yourself as an optimistic person? Why?

Do you see yourself as a grateful person? Why?

What are some challenges that you encounter that prevent you from being optimistic
and grateful?

If you have these traits, what benefits do you get from practicing them?

Answer: Minimum of 15 lines

I felt a sense of regret after thinking deeply about what the passage is trying to
tell the people and the ideas we can learn. Because the story was about the
importance of being grateful, I was also focused on the parts that are related to
that. But then, I realized that there is something different that it conveys. As I
kept going back, reading the passage, and trying to understand precisely the
message, I was able to find out that the story also has an idea that being
grateful is the first step to be accepted by God and live in faith that we have to
further improve. I, according to the observation of myself, think that I’m not an
optimistic person nor a grateful person. I say this because I am a person that
looks and overthinks about reality frequently because since a young age, my
parents, especially my father, told me a lot of life lessons and experiences that
they have went through, and because of that I was able to get this kind of
training my mind which is by facing the reality and understanding the situation
well, I can make the best decision according to the advices I got. Even though
I’m someone that cares about reality most, I also think that being optimistic
and grateful is absolutely important in our lives. My current mindset is the
most challenging part for me when it comes to practicing optimistic and
grateful mindset because it is bringing my thoughts to a room where I can only
think negatively. That is why, I have to always try really hard to practice these
kinds of spiritual concepts because of the influences it gives to me such as
energizing behavior, positive affections to others, stronger faith in God, and
etc.

Sharing: Recall a personal experience related to the lesson. Narrate this

experience and share how you responded to the situation. Then, you can also
cite ways on how you can go about it next time you would encounter that
situation again.

Is there a personal story related to the lesson being tackled? What lesson did you
learn from this experience? Narrate this story.
How can you as a student influence the people around you to be optimistic and
grateful?

What is your specific plan of actions to further develop the traits of optimism and
gratitude? Enumerate some ways and strategies.

Answer: Minimum of 15 lines

My personal story that is related to this lesson is when my father taught me of

the importance of saying thank you and appreciating the people that have
done good to me. One day, as usual and nothing special, we were having dinner
together with my family, and when my younger brother, Joseph, was trying to
get a cup of water for himself, I asked him to get mine too. But after he got a cup
of water for me, my father noticed that I wasn’t saying thank you to my brother.
I didn’t really have any concerns about being grateful to my closest people but
my dad has taught me then that being grateful is a way of expressing your love
and an energy that will enhance and maintain the cycle of kindness. Just like
this, I believe that we should always make the first move by showing
appreciation and start the cycle of kindness by carving the positive spirit in our
hearts. I was also taught that grateful, loving, and caring mindsets will also
make the other people dive into the same practice in their life that results in
strong relationships with not only the people but with God also. This particular
plan was inspired by a gratitude journal that we did in grade 8 as an authentic
assessment for CLE subject. My plan is that I am going to write 10 things that I
was grateful for everyday and I can’t repeat the same thing. I suppose that by
doing this practice, I will be able to understand deeper on how blessed we are
to live peacefully in this world and also the minor things that we don’t even
realize usually.

Praying: Take a prayer out of your head and flow the words onto paper. Ask God
to speak to you and pour your heart out.

Is there something that you would want to thank God for?

What are the things and questions that bother you that you would want God to know
or answer?

What are the hopes, desires, and questions in your heart about this area that you
would want to bring to God?

Write a prayer to God asking Him to Help you be optimistic and grateful.

Answer: Minimum of 15 lines

Dear God,

Thank you for this another wonderful day you gifted me. Thank you for the
time of the day I was able to spend with my family. Thank you for the new
teachings of Yours that made me more mature and think deeper. Thank you for
this opportunity to learn how to set my heart and look at the world in diverse
angles. God, please help me to get to the answer of Your tests so that You have
it ready for me everyday. Please help me get rid of negative thoughts and love
myself, my family, friends, and all of the people that You sent me. Thank you for
letting me admit the past and facts properly. Lord, please help me get out of
this cycle of anxious and depressing thoughts. Please guide me the way of
Yours, that will also influence others in a helpful way. God, I hope that as I
continue fighting for my life, my parents will also not lose their hope and
continue dreaming about their futures. God, help me to be more optimistic to
think the ways that best fits my situation and honor my people. My parents are
always sacrificing themselves in order to take care of me and my siblings,
please let their spirit be with You and send Your angels to them. Lord, I can't
imagine how blessed I am in this wonderful world that You began. Please let the
grateful thoughts flow into my heart and help me understand Your love towards
your creations. I believe that through understanding optimism and
gratefulness, I was able to reach one more step closer to being with You. Lord,
thank you always for loving me. Amen.

wikang Korean, sining at iba pa.
