Global Divides: Global North and Global South

I. SUPPORTING QUESTIONS

1. What are the things that I learned from the referenced article? (10 points)
-In terms of societal, economic, and health-related factors, I've found that the COVID-19 pandemic has
widened the gap between the Global South and the Global North. The article discusses various strategies
used by nations in both regions to lessen the effects of the global crisis. Global South countries struggle
with underfunded public healthcare systems, lower living standards, and challenges in reaching both
sparsely populated rural areas and densely populated urban areas with services. The article also explores
how the global pandemic has affected education. Although distance learning is crucial for maintaining the
educational system, many people in the Global South struggle to adapt to this novel approach because
they have less access to technology, the internet, and educational resources.

2. What are the things that are still unclear to me? (5 points)
- I'm not sure how gender inequality is affected by COVID-19; the article claims that women are particularly
affected. Despite making less than 50% of the workforce, women make up 55% of lost jobs in the US. In
other developing nations, women are more likely to work in service-oriented industries like hospitality,
travel, and tourism that have been shut down as a result of restrictions. Although the pandemic is to
blame, COVID-19 may also have an impact on gender inequality for other reasons.

3. What are the questions that I want to ask about the article? (5 points)
1. What impact did the pandemic have on the Global North and Global South economies?
2. What is the reason for the shortage of COVID-19 vaccines
3. How has COVID-19 affected Africa's economic situation?
4. How has the COVID-19 affected the gender inequality in North and Global South?
5. What would be the state of the world economy if there was no pandemic?

4. How is it related to the topic, The Global Divides: The North and The
South?
- Due to COVID-19, we can now clearly see how disparate the global
North and South were prior to the pandemic. There is an urgent crisis
affecting the entire world. The separation of the global North and South
is related to this. Because they borrowed to meet their economic and
healthcare needs during the pandemic, developing nations in the
Global South experienced increased debt burdens. As a result, we
know that the Global North has more advanced capabilities to combat
the pandemic than the South. Their economic prospects were
hampered by this debt load, which also made the world's financial
imbalances worse. In essence, COVID-19's effects on the Global North
and South have served as a stark reminder of the world's ongoing
divisions, including differences in access to resources, healthcare,
economics, and technology. It has highlighted the necessity of
international cooperation and solidarity to address these disparities,
both in the context of the pandemic response and more general
initiatives to bridge the North-South divide.
