QUIZ-3

1. Suppose that height of the apple to the ground (ℎ), mass of the apple (M), and the acceleration due to gravity (𝑔)
may impact the time it takes for the apple to reach the ground. Determine the values of ,  and  by using
dimensional analysis and write the simplest form of an equation.

𝑡 ∝ ℎ 𝛼 𝑀𝛽 𝑔 𝛾

2. Two vectors are given by A = -3i + 2j - 4k and B = -6i + j + 2k.

(a) Find A. B and A x B
(b) Find the angle of between A and B.

3. A particle moves according to the equation x=10t 2 where x is in meters and t is in seconds.
(a) Find the average velocity for the time interval from 2 s to 3 s.
(b) At t = 3 s, find its velocity and its acceleration.

4.

A projectile is launched from the edge of a cliff

100 m above ground level with an initial speed of
20 m/s at an angle of 35° above the horizontal.
Neglect air resistance. (Assume g=10 m/s2, cos
35=0,8 and sin35 =0,6). Find:

(a) the time taken to reach the maximum height.

(b) the projectile's time of flight.
(c) the projectile's range.
(d) the projectile's impact velocity (magnitude and direction) with the ground.
5. A block of mass m (3 kg) and a block of mass M (4 kg)
are attached by a lightweight cord that passes over a
frictionless pulley of negligible mass, as in the Figure.
The block lies on an incline of angle 30. Assume that
friction exists between M (4 kg) and the plane. The
coefficient of static friction 0,2 between M and the
plane. (Assume g=10 m/s2, cos 30=0,9 and sin30
=0,5)

(a) Draw a free body diagram for each objects.

Find:
(b) the magnitude of the acceleration of the two objects
(c) the tension in the cord.
