Ask the students:

1. Ask students what is their understanding of
“ecological balance”.
2. What species can you find in the ecosystem? How
about in the biosphere?
2. Engage/Motivation Let’s take a closer look:

The learners will be shown a short film of “The Philippine

Seas”
The students will be asked to take note all the
observations they have throughout the film.
Aquatic Biomes

Stating of objective:
General Objective:
Describe how the different terrestrial and aquatic
ecosystems are interlinked with one another
Specific Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, you will be able to… Objective 3.
1. Identify the different aquatic biomes of the world; (HOTS)
2. Appreciate the importance of the aquatic biomes to the
different species, its habitat and to the community; and
3. Illustrate the different aquatic biomes found in the
locality Objective 2.
Linguistics
3. Explore/Activity Individual activity
(3 minutes)
Instruction:
I. With the use of the observations they have
noted, the learners are instructed to identify Objective 3
the animals/species found in the film (HOTS)
II. Describe their habitat

- Time allotment for the activity is 3 minutes only.

4. Explain/Analysis Questions:
• How did you feel about the activity?
• How were you able to identify the
animals/species from the film you have watched?
• How were you able to describe their habitat?
• From the film you have watched, can you give
similar places found in your locality?
5. Elaborate/Abstraction Biomes of the World

Biomes are major types of ecosystems. They are

classified into: Objective 2.
 Aquatic Biomes History
 Terrestrial Biomes

What are Aquatic Biomes?

 The aquatic biome is divided into freshwater and
marine regions. Freshwater regions, such as
lakes and rivers, have a low salt concentration.
Marine regions, such as estuaries and the
ocean, have higher salt concentrations.

Freshwater Regions
Particular characteristics of a freshwater biomes are
influenced by the patterns and speed of water floor, and
the climate to which the biome is exposed. There are
three general categories:

Standing bodies of water (Example: lakes and ponds)

Lake- Lakes represent a freshwater biome type
that is generally referred to in the scientific
community as a lentic ecosystem (still or
standing waters).

1.Lake Danao, Ormoc City

Objective 3
(HOTS)

%2F%2Fjontotheworld.com%2Flake-danao-
ormoc-leyte

The lake supplies potable water to at least seven towns

in Eastern Leyte including Tacloban as well as the
source of irrigation for ricelands in some municipalities
like Dagami, Burauen, Pastrana and Tabontabon.

Ponds- A pond is a small area of still, fresh

water. Some ponds are formed naturally, filled
either by an underwater spring, or by rainwater
sometimes known as 'dewponds'; other ponds
are artificially made.

2.Rafael’s farm, Leyte

https://www.google.com/search?q=famous+ponds+in+Leyte

Ponds are an important source of food, shelter, and

shade for the small animals that live in the pond. They
also serve to reduce evaporation, purify water by
removing excess minerals, prevent the overgrowth of Objective 2.
Chemistry
algae, and even control the mosquito population.

Moving bodies of water (Example: rivers and streams)

River- Rivers are places where water is being

transported from one place to another. With few
exceptions, rivers take the water that collects in a
watershed and ultimately deposits that water in Objective 2.
the ocean. Microbiology
Humans use rivers for irrigation in agriculture, for
drinking water, for transportation, to produce
electricity through hydroelectric dams, and for leisure
activities like swimming and boating.

Wetlands

https://www.google.com/search?q=wetlands+philippines

Wetlands are areas where water covers the soil,

or is present either at or near the surface of the
soil all year or for varying periods of time during
the year, including during the growing season.

Wetlands provide values that no other ecosystem can.

These include natural water quality improvement, flood
protection, shoreline erosion control, opportunities for
recreation and aesthetic appreciation and natural
products for our use at no cost.

Marine Regions

Sea Water- portion of the ocean that is partly

surrounded by land.

1. Canigao Island,
Matalom Leyte

https://www.google.com/search?q=canigao+island
Ocean- the largest biotic community that
supports and allows various marine life-forms to
thrive and live.
1.Limasawa Island, Southern Leyte

https://www.google.com/search?q=limasawa+southern+leyte

Marine ecosystems are important for society since they

provide services including food security, feed for
livestock, raw materials for medicines, building materials
from coral rock and sand, and natural defences against Objective 2.
hazards such as coastal erosion and inundation. Social Science
Application The class will be divided into two groups

Instruction:

 Think of a certain aquatic place you can

find in your community
 Illustrate the connection of that aquatic
place to the community.
(Example: Bunga River- El Presco resort)
Generalization The teacher will ask the students what they have
learned from the discussion.

I learned that …
