Message from ELCIA
Dear ECCA members,

It is ten years since ECCA started celebrating Dusshera which has grown from strength to
strength. It is the Bhakti and passion to continue our tradition that has helped it grow and
bring people together. When I visit the festivities, I really feel proud that I am an Indian and I
am able to enjoy the colourful celebrations.

Covid 19 pandemic dampened the enthusiasm but organisers managed to do the basic pooja
and small-scale celebrations last year. Speaking about the pandemic, we should be grateful to
Devi Durga for giving us strength to tide over the crisis though all of us had our share of
bereavements and calamities.

It is great that a country of this size was able to manage the pandemic and stay focused on
recovery. I sincerely believe that all of us held each other’s hands, supported each other and
with Govt support, India is getting back to normalcy. Each one of us have helped at least one
person and that made India succeed.

ELCIA Trust also pitched in distributing 150,000 food packets and 6500 ration kits to the
needy during the first phase. During the second phase, ELCIA Trust facilitated Rs 5 Cr +
worth donations towards medical equipment to hospitals. It was amazing that individuals to
companies were benevolent to contribute to the cause.

Pandemic was a leveller as everyone, rich or poor underwent the traumatic experience when
testing positive for Covid19 or losing dear ones. Uncertainty was the order of the day and we
had to face reality of life.

We also learnt value of relationships, importance of helping each other and staying alive. We
saw the human side of police, extraordinary service rendered by medical fraternity/volunteers
and depth of our compassion. It was horrible to bid good bye without even seeing them as we
were not allowed to funerals. Recent rains also caused havoc in some parts of the city.
Above all we missed each other in social, cultural events and realised internet world can
never be a substitute for live interactions. I think people are celebrating marriages, birthdays,
anniversaries, and many more with renewed energy and zeal.

This year’s Dussera celebration by ECCA will certainly bring joy and cheer to all of us as
this is the occasion to thank God for being so kind.

Bringing together thousands of people to exhibit their talent, remind us of our rich heritage
and give us good time together with families is an excellent way to remind us about things
beyond corporate world. ECCA is doing this successfully and they deserve all the
appreciation from all of us. I wish the celebrations a grand success and race towards silver
jubilee.

God bless all of you with best of health and peace of mind.

About ECCA
ECCA is the name of universal dynamism, the dynamic being of
cultural emancipation. It has achieved the once impossible, with sheer
strength of determination.

ECCA has transformed Electronic City, literally a village some years ago,
barring its fast-paced corporate culture, into a cultural village.

ECCA revived cultural amenities, the cultural capital

and cultural dividends of this city outside the city.

In this ECCA is both the persona history of its very member, as well as a
collective history of all the visitors and occasional passers-by, during its every
cultural installation, beginning with Durga Puja, 2012.

The steadfast patrons and the diehard fellowship of its volunteers have stood
by it through thick and thin. Together, we have bounced back post the
pandemic and look forward to celebrating our 10th anniversary with renewed
vigour.

Last, but not least, it is your footsteps that we seek, in addition to Maa
Durga’s blessings. Come…celebrate with us!!

Best regards,
ECCA Family
“ECCA & it’s followers”

The ability to lead an association & accommodate a thousand minds is an eminent trait of a well-formed
personality. Team spirit, mutual trust, and cooperation is plays a vital role in ECCA. Everyone can play the
role of a master but it is difficult to be a servant. We always cultivate faith in ourselves. ECCA organizes
“Durga Puja” with a positive attitude & our growth is the result. Our children perform in cultural activities
with the help of our in-house talented personalities.

We know “Sri Ramakrishna “ the spiritual teacher of the world spoke in a language of artless simplicity for
realizing God – “You see many stars in the sky at night, but not when the Sun rises. Can you, therefore, say that
there are no stars in the sky during the day!”

“If you enter the world without cultivating a love for God, you will be entangled more. You will be overwhelmed
with its danger, its grief, its sorrows. While cutting the Jackfruit – first, rub your hands with oil and then break
open the Jackfruit, otherwise, they will be smeared with its sticky milk. First source the oil of divine love, and
then set your hands to duties of the world.

Once a tigress attacked a flock of goats. As she sprang on her prey, she gave birth to a cub and died. The cub
grew up in the company of goats. The goats ate grass and the cub followed their example. They bleated; the cub
bleated too. Gradually it grew to be a big tiger. One day another tiger attacked the same flock. It was amazed to
see the grass-eating tiger. Running after it, the wild tiger, at last, seized it, whereupon the grass-eating tiger
began to beat. The wild tiger dragged it to the water and said: ‘Look at your face in the water. It is just like mine.
Here is a little meat. Eat it. Saying this, it thrust some meat into its mouth. But the grass-eating tiger would not
swallow it and began to bleat again. Gradually, however, it got the taste for blood and came to relish the meat.
Then the wild tiger said ‘Now you see there is no difference between you and me. Come along and follow me
into the forest.

So, there can be no fear if the guru's grace descends on one. He will let you know who you are and
what your real nature is. If the devotee practices spiritual discipline a little, the guru explains
everything to him.

ECCA family is bound together by many values especially obedience, readiness and love.
Therefore, nothing can hold us back !! JAI MAA DURGA !!

Our Motherland, divine.

My country is not in pieces and it will never be-

Our differences maybe greater than they were before

but we have one goal and one goal only - we must grow…

We must rediscover what brilliance, what beauty

What heritage we must protect, as our duty.
All the songs we sing, all the ballads we recite
All the achievements we contribute to it, despite
Our differences - it takes immense courage to make
Sacrifices, that keep our lives safe and out of stake.
At the fences, where our brethren fend off perpetrators
And keep at bay unforeseen violence and its instigators.
We must behold our Motherland’s prestige, with heart
For there are far too many things that now set us apart.
We must commit ourselves to the responsibilities
of thriving beyond superficial valour and civilities.

We must remember, tomorrow, our day isn’t over

If we strive to be better, it will be our four leaf clover;
We will find ourselves again, enriched once more
I hope we vow to do better, better than ever before.
My Motherland will never again, in our wake weep -
Our roles we must keep, and take this new leap;
The Dawn of a new era, your Motherland and mine
We must remember tomorrow -
Our Motherland divine!

DEVI DURGA – A SYMBOL OF WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT

Although Feminism has existed for hundreds of years, Goddess Durga has
been a champion of women's empowerment even before the formation of the
'Women's Right Movement' in the modern world. She has encouraged and
unshackled women from chains holding them back for centuries and will do so
for years to come.

Goddess Durga is the personification of feminine energy and power. Not only
does Goddess Durga serve as an icon for empowering women, her life
represents many lessons from which we can learn, particularly with reference
to women in society today, whenever she tries to assert herself or raise her
voice against injustice, society finds a way to silence her or cow her down
calling her aggressive in all derogatory terms.

Devi Durga holds the power to create and destroy. A metaphor for power of
womanhood. A woman has the power to create life and bring a living being into
this world, at the same time also possessing the capability to destroy all that
holds her back.

At present we live in a world, where society over-values masculine

qualities. Are we (women) not on par with our male counterparts in every
existing field? Neither the feminine nor the masculine qualities are bad or even
unnecessary. We need both the nurturing and protecting qualities to be a whole
and complete human being.

Cultivation of the inner feminine feelings can have a tremendous impact on

our relationships both at work and at home. Like Devi Durga, the
modern woman is also fighting her own battle every moment to protect herself
from the ego of this male- dominated society. Every moment she kills the
demons of injustice, dishonesty and cruelty.

Around this part of the year when we all are celebrating the arrival of the
Mother Goddess Durga on earth perhaps this is the time that reminds us of the
girl child and the values of a woman.

There is really a need to balance both sides of the equation - feminine and
masculine qualities. These are like two sides of a same coin. To make ourselves
whole, complete and balanced we have to empower both the masculine as well
as the feminine traits in us. After all we are women designed to shine in this
world.

Story of a Ghost in undivided Bangla

This is a true incident that happened more than 80 years back in

undivided Bangla before my birth. My mother once narrated this
incident when I was still a child and insisted to share a true ghost
story. Those were the days when there was still no electricity and
folks used lanterns to move around after dark.

One day my father had to go to a nearby town for some important

work and by the time he was done, it was dusk. He started his return
journey to his village on foot with a lantern in hand. However, that
evening was destined to be quite eventful.

On his way, back he encountered mystical occurrences. Around 5 km

from the village, he noticed a big black ox sitting under a tamarind
tree. My father’s sixth sense alerted him about something quite right.
He started walking towards his village at a brisk pace fearing
something unknown.

Suddenly, from nowhere a black cat appeared from the bushes and
started following him making a strange growling sound. He hurried
towards the village but had to cross the village cremation ground on
the way. While crossing suddenly he saw a pyre with the body being
cremated sitting in an upright position on the pyre. My father was quite
brave but this sight and the black cat continuously meowing behind
him scared him a lot.

He started running towards his home and the cat kept following
him. When he reached the door step, he took the sacred copper coin
out from his neck chain and threw it behind at the cat. When the coin
landed in front of the cat it suddenly stood still and then spoke in a
mysterious voice, “I am sparing you this time” and then it vanished into
the darkness suddenly just like it had appeared.

MY TRAVEL TO KASHMIR

I went on a vacation to Kashmir with my family. We took a flight to reach

Srinagar.

Once there, we took a shikara ride to the house boat where we stayed for four
nights. That day, in the evening we went for a shikara ride on the beautiful Dal
Lake and saw the floating market.

The next day we went to Pahalgam on a dangerous horse ride to see the Baisaran
valley. Then we went to the beautiful Lidder river. There, when I dipped my foot
into the water, it was so cold that I felt my foot was going to freeze!

We went to Nishat Bagh, Cheshmashahi and Shalimar gardens the next day. They
were full of flowers like Dahlia, Sunflower, Rose and Daisy. There were some
lovely fountains too. After we visited the gardens, we went to Nigeen Lake where
during the shikara ride, we saw many Lotuses and Water Lilies.

Next we visited Sonmarg, the Zero point and Zojila Pass. We rode an ATV [All
Terrain Vehicle] at Zero Point and it was super fun! While returning we stopped at
a children’s park and went Zorbing. It was the best thing in the whole trip! We
laughed hard as we kept falling over each other.

The next day we went to Gulmarg and went for a cable car ride. We also saw the
Buta valley. Our vacation had come to an end. We flew back home on the next
day. I will always cherish my memories of Kashmir!

Hiccups of a working woman

I am a teacher. I teach students and while teaching or correcting their notebooks

I don’t discriminate between boys and girls. Even the efforts they put in for
studies are equal. Then why the expectation that women should leave their jobs
for the sake of family or children. If they don’t, why are they are criticized?

When a new mother joins post maternity leave, only she knows what turmoil goes
on within her. When she leaves her sick child and goes to work, with each breath
she feels her anxiety mounting. The battle of emotions makes her extremely
exhausted and then the societal criticism breaks her.

Before stepping out for work, she does numerous calculations - short break,
long break, husband’s lunch, post school snacks etc. in addition to children’s
studies, their projects, their extra curriculars... she is expected to manage all
these with a topping of work place tension…along with unpleasant surprises on
the personal front. She tries to fit into all these shoes with bittersweet shoe bites.

Today when we worship Maa Durga, I just want to ask… can we not accept a
woman as a woman with all her imperfections…without criticizing, without
judging and without comparing?
Let her be the way she is. If we can’t appreciate let’s not criticize. Let’s not set
any parameters for her to prove herself. She is beautiful, elegant and
magnificent in her own way.

Memories

The bitter sweet pain of melancholy,

Fills the heart with long-lost memories and desires.
Reminds one of beautiful sun-kissed days
Spent under the shed of rainbow trees
When worries were shooed away
And reservations thrown to the winds.
Days of joy and bountiful love
Days of trust and optimism
Days of aspirations and being unreserved!
The reminiscences of the past
Gone with the wind are those days
Sold to pragmatism and dismay.
Leaving behind the trails of unshed tears.
Tears if unleashed can create havoc,
Tears that might whip up a hailstorm of emotions,
Tears that can wreck the peace of our lives.
Forward ho! is the mantra of life
Accept that which you can’t defy.

With many years that have passed by
Hours spent at Sapna Book house
Always brings out my inner child
O Bangalore, you beauty,
I heave a reminiscing sigh,
A recreational walk at Cubbon Park
Live music around with happy hours
Painting my heart out with friends
City's creative soul inspires again
O Bangalore, you beauty,

Thank you for being so beautiful
Thank you for being so accessible
Thank you for filling lives with joy

Nature’s Life

Piles of junk across the streets!

But people just walk and pass by with their feet!
Fields of green now fields of doom!
Oh how I hope my child can see it bloom!
Rivers of life now rivers of death!
When I see it I can’t catch my breath!
Forests are where animals can breed!
But trees are all gone because if greed!
There must be something that we can still do!
But do you still care with the things around you?
Always remember that God counts on you!
So give mother nature life that’s brand new!

Rainy Night

I woke up to the sound of rain,

Rubbing my eyes, I open the curtain…
The moon shone bright -
Behind the hazy rain at night.
I stared at the silver like moonlight…
What a beautiful sight!
I jumped off my bed and walked outside,
My eyes getting filled with the silver light.
Feeling the rain fall on my face,
I walked at a slow pace,
With very thin clothes on me
I walked in the rain, feeling free.
Soon came a slight breeze
Enough to make my body freeze…
I walked towards my home
In the rainy streets, all alone.
I look one last time at the moon
Hoping to see this sight again soon!
