II. LESSON PRESENTATION

The Philippines, known as the Pearl of the Orient, is an archipelago country

located
in Southeast Asia. It comprises almost 7,641 islands that are mainly
categorized
into three broad divisions; Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. It is surrounded by
various bodies of water such as the Bashi Channel on the north, the Pacific
Ocean
on the east, the Celebes Sea on the south, and the West Philippine Sea on
the
west. On the other hand, the Philippines is continentally bounded by its
neighboring countries such as Taiwan on the north, Guam on the east,
Indonesia
on the south, and Vietnam on the west. Its location near the equator gives
the
Philippines its tropical climate while its position in the Pacific Ring of Fire
makes
the country prone to earthquakes and typhoons. Meanwhile, this strategic
situation
provided the country with its abundant natural resources and some of the world's
greatest biodiversity. It serves as the melting pot of different cultures. Its rich
history, heritage, and geographical features contribute to the arts and culture in
this country. The Philippines is divided into 17 regions showcasing diverse arts,
cultures, styles, and techniques depending on the available resources.

Region I – Ilocos Region

• Ilocos Norte
• Ilocos Sur
• La Union
• Pangasinan
