Both systems operate at 3000 psi normal pressure. Hydraulic System A and B Hydraulic systems A and B are almost the same. The reservoir supplies fluid for the pumps. The pneumatic system supplies pressurized air through the reservoir pressurization module to the reservoir. The EDP supply shutoff valve controls the fluid supply to the engine driven pump (EDP). Fach system has an engine-driven pump (FDP) and an electric motor-driven pump (EMDP). The two pumps in each system supply pressure continuously. There are no demand pumps. Both pumps send pressure to the pressure module. The pressure module cleans the fluid and monitors the pressure from each pump. The pressure module also protects the system from over pressure. case drain filter modules clean the case drain fluid from each pump. The heat exchanger cools the case drain fluid before it goes back to the reservoir. Return filter modules clean user systems return fluid before it goes back to the reservoir. This panel is on the P5 forward overhead panel. ‘The engine fire switches on the P8 aft electronics panel control the fluid supply to the EDPs. EDP and EMDP Pump Controls ‘The EDP and the EMDP each have a switch on the hydraulic panel. The switches have two positions, ON and OFF. The ENG 1 hydraulic pump switch controls the EDP for system A. The ELEC 2 hydraulic pump switch controls the EMDP for system A. The ENG 2 switch controls the EDP for system B. The ELEC 1 switch controls the EMDP for system B. There is an amber Low pressure Light for each pump above each pump switch. Each EMDP also has an amber overheat Light above the switch. Engine Fire switches The engine fire switches isolate the engine if there is an engine fire. When you operate one of the fire switches, the pump low pressure Light is disarmed and the hydraulic fluid supply to the related EDP stops. EFFECTIVITY Fs004 737-300/400/500 MAINTENANCE TRAINING MANUAL TONS Training Information Point Because the EDP depressurization solenoid gets electrical power when the EDP control switch is OFF, you normally keep the switch in the ON position. While you do maintenance, if the switch is in the OFF position for a long time, you should open the circuit breaker for the EDP solenoid. 29-10-CC FLIGHTSAFETYBOEING PROPRIETARY) ALL rights reserved ~ See title page for details FlightSafetyBoeing 737-300/400/500 MAINTENANCE TRAINING MANUAL ENG 1 ELEC 2 | ELECT ENG 2 "Q OFF 6, A A _HyD 8 HYDRAULIC PANEL (P5) OAT WET a - N B Ua [otstintubo| otsthateto noma, Ls, faut | (2 norma (\ ET, 7 ny ae ke lovernear 7WPU ET lovenwenr| fi A aL ale |r Ole) a8 Gy sli men) | U | = 8 @) sla sans Eh Roe O TP Te D 7 ‘BUTTON UNDER HANDLE. v) Apu OVERHEAT/FIRE PROTECTION PANEL (PB) MAIN HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS - CONTROLS AND INDICATIONS EFFECTIVITY FS004 -5- 29-10-CC FLIGHTSAFETYBOEING PROPRIETARY) ALL rights reserved ~ See title page for details FlightSafetyBoeing 737-300/400/500 MAINTENANCE TRAINING MANUAL MAIN HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS - RESERVOIR PRESSURIZATION SYSTEM - COMPONENT LOCATIONS THIS PAGE INTENTIONALLY LEFT BLANK EFFECTIVITY #5006 SY 29-10-CC FLIGHTSAFETYBOEING PROPRIETARY) ALL rights reserved ~ See title page for details FlightSafetyBoeing 737-300/400/500 MAINTENANCE TRAINING MANUAL MAIN HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS - RESERVOIR PRESSURIZATION SYSTEM - COMPONENT LOCATIONS General ‘The reservoir pressurization system supplies pneumatic pressure to system A and system B reservoirs. Standby system reservoir pressure is supplied by a fill and balance Line connected to the system B reservoir. These are the reservoir pressurization system components: Reservoir pressurization module - Orifice assembly - Reservoir depressurization valve (2) - Air pressure gauge (2) - Pressure relief valve (2). The the reservoir pressurization system components are in main Landing gear wheel well. Reservoir Pressurization Module The reservoir pressurization module mixes bleed air from both engines or the APU pneumatic systems for hydraulic reservoir pressurization. The reservoir pressurization module contains these component: Check valve (2) Air filter = Air charging valve = Test port. EFFECTIVITY FS004 The check valves isolate the left and right sides of the pneumatic system. The cleanable air filter prevents downstream contamination of the system. The air charging valve permits ground pressurization of the hydraulic system reservoirs for maintenance. The test port permits installation of a pressure gage to do tests. Orifice Assembly The orifice assembly sends pneumatic pressure from the reservoir pressurization module to the system A and system B reservoirs The orifice assembly is between the reservoir pressurization module and the main hydraulic system reservoirs. Reservoir Depressurization Valves The reservoir depressurization valves let you manually vent the reservoirs for maintenance. The valves are between the reservoirs and reservoir pressurization module. 29-10-CC FLIGHTSAFETYBOEING PROPRIETARY) ALL rights reserved ~ See title page for details FlightSafetyBoeing 737-300/400/500 MAINTENANCE TRAINING MANUAL MAIN HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS - RESERVOIR PRESSURIZATION SYSTEM - COMPONENT LOCATIONS Air Pressure Gauges An air pressure gauge for each hydraulic system A and B reservoir gives an indication of the air pressure in the reservoirs. ‘The gauges are between each reservoir depressurization valve and its related reservoir. Pressure Relief Valves A pressure relief valve for each main reservoir opens when the air pressure in the reservoir increases to 60- 65 psi to protect the reservoir. The relief valves are near the top of each hydraulic system A and system B reservoir. ‘Training Information Point If you remove pressure from the system B reservoir, you also remove pressure from the standby system reservoir. This pressurizes the supply fluid flow from the reservoirs to the pumps and pressurizes the return fluid in the hydraulic system. Functional Description Air from the pneumatic system goes into the reservoir pressurization module. Vents on the pneumatic ducts help remove contaminates and moisture from the air. Inside the module, the air goes through check valves and an air filter. You can clean the air filter. Some of the air then vents out of the system but most of the air goes through a check valve, restrictors, reservoir depressurization valves and then goes to the air pressure gauges and reservoirs. The restrictors prevent a loss of pneumatic duct pressure if a failure downstream in the system occurs. An additional vent also helps remove contaminants and moisture from the pressurization system. The reservoir depressurization valves permit air depressurization from either reservoir. The air pressure gauges show air pressure in each reservoir. EFFECTIVITY Fs004 To protect the reservoirs, a pressure relief valve opens if the air or fluid pressure in the reservoir ‘increases more than 60-65 psi. Training Information Point If you remove pressure from the B system reservoir, you also remove pressure from the standby reservoir. CAUTION: DO NOT USE MORE THAN 70 PSIG PRESSURE. IF YOU USE TOO MUCH PRESSURE, DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR. 29-10-CC FLIGHTSAFETYBOEING PROPRIETARY) ALL rights reserved ~ See title page for details FlightSafetyBoeing 737-300/400/500 MAINTENANCE TRAINING MANUAL PNEUMATIC SYSTEM RESTRICTOR (7) VENT (3) arr © CHARGING VALVE RESERVOTR PRESSURIZATION DEPRE SSURTZATION MODULE, VALVE (2) AIR a” / A) PRESSURE GAUGE (2) a i a Q RIFTCE RESERVOIR PRESSURE ASSEMBLY PRESSU VALVE (2) HYDRAULIC SYSTEM B RESERVOIR ‘STANDBY *|SysTEM RESERVOIR HYDRAULIC SYSTEM A, v RESERVOIR Pei MAST LEGEND SEER AIR SUPPLY MAIN HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS - RESERVOIR PRESSURIZATION SYSTEM - FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION EFFECTIVITY 5004 29-10-CC -1- FLIGHTSAFETYBOEING PROPRIETARY) ALL rights reserved ~ See title page for details FlightSafetyBoeing MAIN HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS — RESERVOIR Purpose The hydraulic reservoirs supply hydraulic fluid under pressure to the hydraulic punps. the reservoirs also get the return fluid fron the airplane systens that use fydrautic power. Physical Description The hydraulic system A reservoir has a total volume capacity of 5.7 gallons (21.7 Liters). The hydraulic system B reservoir has a total volume capacity of 8.7 gallons (32.8 Liters). Each reservoir has these components: Quantity gage and transmitter - brain valve. Location The hydraulic system A reservoir is in the center of the main wheel well on the forward bulkhead. The hydraulic system B reservoir is on the right forward bulkhead of the main wheel well. Location ‘The EDP supply shutoff valve for hydraulic system A is on the Left side of the upper bulkhead of the wheel well. The EDP supply shutoff valve for hydraulic system B is on the right side. Physical Description The EDP supply shutoff valve is a two-position 28v de motor-operated valve. A position indicator on the valve shows valve position, OPEN or CLSD. You can not use the position indicator to open or close the EDP supply shutoff valve manually. Operation When you pull the engine fire warning switch, the EDP supply shutoff valve moves to the closed position. This stops the supply of hydraulic fluid to the EDP. EFFECTIVITY Fs004 The EDP supply shutoff valve moves to the open position when you move the engine fire warning switch to the down or normal position. Training Information Point Because the supply of hydraulic fluid to the pump stops when you move the engine fire warning switch up, case drain flow does not flow through the EDP. If the engine continues to turn (windmilU with the valve in the closed position, the EDP may be damaged. You must do an inspection of the EDP pressure and case drain filters. Location ‘The EDP is on the front face of the engine accessory gearbox on the left side of the engine. Physical Description ‘The EDP is an axia hydraulic pump. “piston, variable-displacement, ‘The EDP internal pressure compensator controls the output pressure of the pump to approximately 3000 psi. ‘The pump has these three Lines that attach to it: - Hydraulic fluid supply Line - Output pressure Line - Case drain Line. The case drain fluid uses some of the supply fluid to cool and lubricate the EDP. The case drain fluid then goes to the case drain filter, the heat exchanger, and then to the reservoir. ‘A depressurization solenoid valve in the pump blocks the pump output flow when you move the EDP ENG HYD PUMP switch on the hydraulic panel to the OFF position. EFFECTIVITY Fs004 737-300/400/500 MAINTENANCE TRAINING MANUAL The pump is rated at 37.5 gpm at 3030 psi and 3750 rpm. ‘The EDP attaches to the engine accessory gearbox with a clamp. The supply, pressure, and case drain Lines connect to the EDP with self-seal, disconnect fittings. The supply, pressure, and case drain Lines connect to the engine cowl support beam with seal-seal, disconnect fittings. This makes engine change easier. Location ‘The ENDPs are in the center of the forward bulkhead in the main wheel well. Physical Description ‘The EDP has an electric motor that mechanically connects to a hydraulic pump. The motor operates with 115v ac power. The pump is a piston-type variable displacement hydraulic pump that is smaller than the EDP. Some of the supply fluid into the pump becomes case drain fluid. The case drain fluid cools and lubricates the pump and then goes to the heat exchanger and reservoir through the case drain connection. The temperature switch in the EMDP monitors the temperature of the EMDP. hen the temperature increases to more than 210F (99C), a signal goes to remove power to the EMOP. The acoustic filter decreases the noise from the EMDP. The EMDPs are rated at 5.7 gpm at 2700 psi. EFFECTIVITY Fs004 Training Information Point If you operate the EMDPs intermittently, use this procedure: = Ina five minute period, do not make more than five starts of any one pump. - Wait 30 seconds before you start the pump again. If you attempt more than five starts in a 5 minute period, you should do one of these steps: = Run the pump continuously for 5 minutes after the fifth start (monitor the overheat warning Lights) = Turn the pump OFF and allow it to cool for more than 30 minutes.
