The Eight Types of Love and its Uses

1. Philia is love that occurs between friends or family members and lacks romantic
attraction. It happens when two people share the same values and respect each other; it's
also known as "brotherly love."
The use of Philia was to encourages goodwill, friendship, and affection.

2. Pragma is a one-of-a-kind bonded love that develops over time. It is the eternal love of a
couple who chooses to put equal effort into their relationship. Commitment and
dedication are required to achieve "Pragma," which means that instead of "falling in
love," you are "standing in love" with the partner you want to be by your side
indefinitely.
The use of pragma are;
1. Maintain and strengthen long-term relationships.
2. Seek out and put forth effort with your partner.
3. Choose to work with your partner indefinitely.

3. Storge is a naturally occurring love that can be found in parents, children, and best
friends. It's an infinite love founded on acceptance and a strong emotional connection. In
parent-child relationships, this love comes easily and quickly.
The use of stroge are to sacrifice your time, self or personal pleasures,
quickly forgive harmful actions and
share memorable and impactful moments.

4. Eros is a primal love that most people have as a natural instinct. Physical affection is used
to express a passionate love. Kissing, hugging, and holding hands are just a few examples
of romantic behaviors. This love is a desire for the physical body of another person.
The use eros are admiring someone’s physical body, physical touch, such as hugging and kissing
and romantic affection.

5. Ludus is a childish and flirtatious love that is common in the early stages of a relationship
(a.k.a. the honeymoon stage). Teasing, playful motives, and laughter between two people
constitute this type of love. Although this love is common in young couples, older
couples who strive for it have a more rewarding relationship.
The use of ludus are flirt and engage in whimsical conversation, spend time together laughing
and having fun, and model childlike behavior.

6. Mania is defined as obsessive love for a partner. It causes unwanted jealousy or


possessiveness, which is referred to as codependency. The majority of cases of obsessive
love are found in couples who have an imbalance of love for each other. Mania is caused
by an imbalance of Eros and Ludus. Obsessive love can be avoided with healthy levels of
playful and romantic love.

7. Philautia is a healthy form of love in which you value yourself and do not ignore your
personal needs. Self-love begins with accepting responsibility for your own well-being.
It's difficult to demonstrate outbound types of love because you can't give what you don't
have.

8. Agape is the highest form of love available. It is freely given with no expectation of
receiving anything in return. Offering Agape is a decision to spread love in all
circumstances, including those that are destructive. Agape is a feeling, not a physical act,
but acts of self-love can elicit Agape because self-monitoring produces results.
