Global Citizenship

1. Using the information in the table, explain what becoming a global citizen involves.

Becoming a global citizen includes being open-minded person who has respect to others race, appearance,
cultures and opinions. It also involves people of all ages, it entails actively participating in global issues,
building connections, and contributing to positive change on a global scale with the help of critical thinking.
2. As a global citizen you will be learning different knowledge, skills and values. Explain the terms listed
below (you may need to use the internet to help you understand what they mean).

Social Justice in simple words this term means equality. Namely, every human being can get equal political
and social rights, healthcare, employment, taxation, insurance, education and so on. These rights are protected.

Diversity it is the condition or environment that includes wide range of races, religions, genders and sexual
orientations at the same group. There is so many advantages of this term but I think living and working with
people who have differences is common can make us more tolerant and mature.

Human Rights are the rights and freedoms that belong to a person regardless of his nationality, religion, race
and other characteristics. These rights include freedom of life, equality, liberty, education and free speech.

Identity is individuality. It can inform us who someone is, his/her qualities, beliefs that make them or
group of people different from others. It’s also going to identify who they are as individuals.

Empathy is understanding other people’s feelings, imagining themselves in their places; feeling what another
person is experiencing. It can be emotionally or cognitive.
Global citizenship is loosely defined as “recognizing the interconnectedness of life, respecting cultural diversity
and human rights, advocating global social justice, empathising with suffering people around the world, seeing
the world as others see it and feeling a sense of moral responsibility for planet Earth.” In effect, rather than
seeing oneself as a citizen of a single country or place, a global citizen sees their identity as transcending
borders of politics and geography, operating as a member of humanity and not just a single nationality.

3. What does ‘interconnectedness’ mean?

It is the condition of being connected. But in globalization it means bringing greater inter-connectivity
among the countries across the globe through the exchange of ideas, knowledge, people, flow of goods,
capital and services.

4. What is the value of becoming a global citizen?

For example, global citizens have more opportunities including international job chances, studying abroad,
volunteering and etc. They going to have better problem solving skills, tolerance, common sense and
respect to other cultures. I think it also helps with adaptability, communication skills, network, etc.
As I said before it is great chance to embrace diversity and so on.

5. What do you want to learn or achieve from

becoming a global citizen?
I wish I could learn about different cultures, beliefs
and customs. I think cultural immersion is better
with global citizenship. I also like busy myself with
challenges especially problem solving things. I
believe I already have tolerance but diversity
environment would be good, because it is going to
help with personal growth and better networking.
