READING PASSAGE 3:
Phân tích câu 1: Innovation (chủ ngữ 1)/ is (to be)/key (tính từ)/ to business survival (danh
từ), and companies (chủ ngữ 2)/ put substantial resources into (cụm động từ)/ inspiring
employees to develop new ideas.
Phân tích câu 2: There are, nevertheless, people (1)/ working in luxurious, state-of-the-art
centres (2)/ designed to stimulate innovation (3)/ who find that (4)/ their environm ent
doesn’t make them feel at all creative. (5)
(mệnh đề quan hệ - Relative Clause who + Verb)
Câu trên khó dịch chủ yếu do cách hành văn sử dụng mệnh đề quan hệ.
And there are those/ who don’t have a budget, or much space, (RC1)/ but who innovate
successfully. (RC2)

Phân tích câu 3: For Robert B. Cialdini/ Professor of Psychology at Arizona State University/
one reason that/ companies don’t succeed/ as often as they should/ is that/ innovation
starts with recruitment.
Phân tích câu 4: Research (danh từ)/ shows (động từ) that/ the fit between an employee’s
values and a company’s values (cụm danh từ)/ makes a difference to (động từ)/ what
contribution they make (cụm danh từ)/ and whether, two years after they join (trạng từ chỉ thời
gian),/ they (danh từ)/’re (to be) still at the company.
Phân tích câu 5: Studies at Harvard Business School (cụm danh từ)/ show that/ (động từ),
although/ (từ nối) some individuals/ (danh từ) may be (modal verb + động từ to be)/ more
creative than others (tính từ), almost every individual/ (danh từ) can be (modal verb + động
từ to be)/ creative (tính từ) in the right circumstances.
Phân tích câu 6: One of the most famous photographs (cụm danh từ)/ in the history of

Phân tích câu 7: Sun’s ‘million-dollar quartet’ (cụm danh từ)/ could have been (modal verb
+ động từ)/ a quintet (tân ngữ).
Missing from the picture (tính từ) is (to be) Roy Orbison (danh từ), a greater natural singe r
than Lewis, Perkins or Cash (cụm danh từ bổ ngữ cho ‘Roy Orbison’).
Cụm đầu có thể đảo lại ‘Roy Orbison is missing from the
Phillips’)/, wanted to revolutionise/ (động từ) popular music (tân ngữ)/ with songs (bổ ngữ)/
that fused black and white music, and country and blues (RC bổ nghĩa cho danh từ ‘songs’).
Phân tích câu 9: Presley, Cash, Perkins and Lewis (cụm danh từ)/ instinctively understood
(trạng từ + động từ 1)/ Phillips’s ambition (tân ngữ)/ and believed (động từ 2) in it. Orbison
(danh từ)/ wasn’t inspired (động từ 1: to be + tính từ)/ by the goal/ and only ever achieved
(động từ 2)/ one hit with the Sun label.

nối)/ innovation (danh từ)/ is (to be), in part, (bổ ngữ)/ a process of change (tân ngữ),/ and
(từ nối) under that pressure (trạng ngữ)/ we (danh từ),/
as a species, (bổ ngữ)/ behave differently (động từ),/ ‘When things (danh từ)/ change (động
từ),/ we (danh từ)/ are hard-wired to (to be + tính từ)/ play it safe.’
cách an toàn.’
Phân tích câu 11: Managers/ should therefore adopt (modal verb + động từ)/ an approach
(tân ngữ)/ that appears counterintuitive (RC bổ nghĩa cho tân ngữ) - they (danh từ)/ should
explain (modal verb + động từ)/ what stands to be lost (cụm danh từ)/ if (từ nối if)/ the
company (danh từ)/ fails to (động từ)/ seize a particular opportunity (cụm động từ bổ nghĩa
cho ‘fails to’).
Toàn bộ từ ‘what stands to be…’ cho tới hết là tân ngữ của động từ ‘should explain’. Thấy rằng
tân ngữ cũng có thể chứa cụm S-V ở trong đó.
