The award-winning artist, Jordan Mang- osan, uses

pyrography that utilizes the rays of the sun to etch
onto the wooden surfaces. Most of his subjects are
about Cordillera's culture, history, and environment.
 "32 Variations on Sabel" (2008) by
Benedicto "BenCab" Cabrera
Location: Km. 6 Asin Road, Tadiangan, Tuba, Benguet

More Sabel renditions are seen in this big painting,

which displays BenCab's unique brushwork technique of
strong, loose strokes and subtle abstraction. Sabel, a
homeless wanderer who BenCab often encountered in
Bambang, Manila during the 1960s, is well-known for
being portrayed by him in his works. The artist mostly
depicts his subjects in the Figurative Art Style, which is
used to define any type of modern art that strongly
references the actual world, especially the human figure.

For the artist, Jordan M a ng-os a n, w ho made the fi rst a rtwork
above, he was influenced b y Cor di l l er a ' s c u l tu re , hi story, a n d
environment, with the us e of pyrogra phy, whi ch u se s a m a gni fyi n g
glass and the sun' s rays t o b u rn ont o w oods. On the othe r ha n d,
Benedicto Cabrera, who ma de the "32 Va ri a ti ons on Sa bel ", wa s
influenced by an event in hi s l i fe w her e he ha d a l wa ys e ncou n tere d
