TYPES OF PIPES & FIXTURES

Asbestos cement pipe, also commonly known as

transite pipe, is a cement liquid transportation vessel that
is tubular in shape. The asbestos in asbestos cement pipe
is used to enhance its mechanical properties. Commonly
used in the 20th century, asbestos cement pipe has been
mostly discontinued due to health concerns.

Orangeburg pipe (also known as "fiber

conduit",
"bituminous fiber pipe" or "Bermico")
is bituminized fiber pipe made from layers of ground wood
pulp fibers compressed with and bound by a water
resistant adhesive then impregnated with liquefied coal tar
pitch.CHEAPEST AMONG THE SEWER PIPE.

TYPES OF PIPES & FIXTURES

Brass Pipe It is one of the most expensive types of
pipes this pipe is made of alloy or zinc and copper, because
of its smooth surface and high resistance to acid, brass
pipe become superior material for waste and water supply
installation.

Copper pipes are commonly used in the construction

industry for water supply lines and refrigerant lines in
HVAC (heating, cooling, and air-conditioning) systems.
A durable and extremely corrosive resistant material. It is
easy to install compared with other types of pipe.

TYPES OF PIPES & FIXTURES

Cast iron pipe. This is durable and is conveniently
installed in most of the plumbing needs in building which
are less than 25 storey high. How ever bldgs taller than 25
storey do not specify the use of this because of constant
vibrations which cause water leak of the pipe joints. Two
types of cast iron pipe ( SV TYPE ,XV TYPE )

Galvanized steel pipes. Are steel pipes that have

been dipped in a protective zinc coating to prevent
corrosion and rust. It is made out from mild steel and
easily corroded by alkaline and acid water.

TYPES OF PIPES & FIXTURES

Galvanized wrought iron pipe. This is better

than steel pipe for plumbing installation, because it is more
resistant to acid waste than steel pipe.
Lead pipe. It is highly resistant to acid and suitable for
underground installation but poisonous and injurious to
human health. Hence,it is never used to convey water for
human consumption.

TYPES OF PIPES & FIXTURES

Plastic or Synthetic pipe. It is a superior as sewer

and cold line water pipe line. It is more resistant to rust
and corrosion. Water conveyed by this pipe has no pipe
taste.
Vitrified clay pipe (VCP) is pipe made from a blend
of clay and shale that has been subjected to high
temperature to achieve vitrification, which results in a
hard, inert ceramic.VCP is commonly used
in gravity sewer collection mains because of its long life
and resistance to almost all domestic and
industrial sewage, particularly the sulfuric acid that is
generated by hydrogen sulfide, a common component of
sewage.
TYPES OF PIPES & FIXTURES

Bushing. It connects male end of piece to fitting of a

larger size, a reducing or enlarging fitting.

Cap. A fitting that closes the end of the pipe the fitting
being inside threaded.
Pipe nipple. It used to connect two straight runs of
pipe,the fitting being outside threaded.

TYPES OF PIPES & FIXTURES

Elbow. It is used to change the direction of a pipe 45 to

90 degrees.

Ferrule. A metallic sleeve, caulked, joined to an opening

in a pipe, which a plug screwed for the purpose of cleaning
or examining the interior of a pipe.

Plugs. A fitting that closes the end of pipe, the fitting

being outside threaded.

TYPES OF PIPES & FIXTURES

Siamese connection. A hose fitting with clapper
valves for combining flow from two or more line of hose
into a single stream. The inlet fitting of a fire stand pipe
located above ground level.

Flanges. It is used to mechanically connect two pipes.

Water meter. A device used to measure the amount of

water that passes through the water services.

TYPES OF PIPES & FIXTURES

Butterfly valves. It is quarter-turn rotary motion
valve that is used to stop, regulate, and start the flow.

Foot valve. It is a valve located at the lower end of the

pump used to prevent loss of priming the pump. It is
sometimes referred to as retention valve.

TYPES OF PIPES & FIXTURES

Corporation stop. It is inserted into the water main.

It serves as a control of the water service. It is also serve
as a shut off when the service disconnected.
Curve stop. It is installed between the curb and the
sidewalk line accessible to cast iron stop box equipped
with removable cover. It serves as control stop of the
service between the curb and building. It shut off water
supply in case the basement becomes flooded.
