Reflection Essay 3

Throughout the composition of this assignment, I was able to comprehend better how to

perform a proper research analysis and how to properly compose a journal research paper.

Thanks to this academic paper I am more prepared for future assignments or papers that I may be

required to write during my college career and a future job. Being a college student, there will be

many other courses like History, Psychology, Biology, and English, among others; that may

require me to perform other research analyses or journals just like this one. Also, as a biology

major, I am constantly asked to present and experiment and therefore need to conduct research to

get the complete background of the information I am providing or proving.

In the past research analysis essay, I was able to comprehend how to conduct research of

a topic while utilizing reliable sources. I was also able to get a better understanding of how to

combine all that research together and create a research paper that informed the reader of

everything I was able to find regarding that specific topic. These same concepts I also had to

apply also when composing the journal research paper.

In the research analysis essay, I was required to search for information about a specific

topic and not take a stand. Meaning the paper had to just provide the information I had found

regardless of whether it was with a piece of positive or negative information related to the topic.

Unlike that paper, in this one, I had to take a stand on whether that same topic was good or bad

basing myself on the research already conducted. Even so, I still had to conduct more research to

defend my stand in the paper. Thanks to this process I was able to analyze the concept and make

my point on it.

The peer review workshop along with the group conferences are always a great help in

the composition of the paper. Reasons to be is that as you receive feedback from other students

you are able to tell or recognize what is that you are doing wrong or right and how can you fix it.

Because maybe something that seemed right or to make sense to you, did not make as much

sense for another person when they read it. Another reason for this is that maybe the person who

reviews your paper knows something about the concept or the formatting that you did not know

and were doing wrong.

The peer review I received from my classmates was helpful. At the time of the

composition, I was hospitalized and sadly, I was having a hard time composing the paper. My

classmates were able to spot some mistakes I had made in the composition and told me how to

fix them. One of those mistakes was that in the in-text citations, instead of putting the point after

the parenthesis, I was putting them before. They were also able to give me suggestions in how to

organize the composition of my paper. Something in specific they pointed out was that I had

started a paragraph with a quotation, and they suggested it was best not to.

For me, the most challenging aspect of this paper was finding what sub-topics I should

specifically talk about. Because I did had my main topic or thesis, but I needed to bring other

topics that explained my stand for that claim. Another thing I found rather challenging was to

organize everything in the paper without making it confusing or getting out of topic. Also,

reaching the word count is always I big concern. The least challenging aspect of this essay for

me was adding information about the topic. Because I choose to write about something I am

interested in and also am a bit knowledgeable about, plus I had conducted the past research,

writing about the topic once I knew what to explain was not as complicated as I had thought

would be. Overall, I really found this assignment rather fun and interesting to compose.
