OBJECTIVES

A. Content Standards Demonstrates understanding of concepts of

continuous and repeating patterns and number
sentences.

B. Performance Standards Is able to identify the missing element in a pattern

and number sentence.

C. Learning Competencies - Determines the missing term/s in a sequence of

numbers (e.g. odd numbers, even numbers, multiples
of a number, factors of a number, etc.) e.g. 3,6,9,__
4,8,12,16,__ (e.g. odd numbers, even numbers,
multiples of a number, factors of a number, etc.) 1 2
3 4 5 6 7 ____

II. CONTENT Pattern: repeating patterns and number sentence

III. LEARNING RESOURCES

A. REFERENCES

1. Teacher’s Guide pages Page.

2. Learner’s Materials pages Page

3. Textbook pages Page

4. Additional Materials from LearninG resource Page

B. Other Learning Resources

IV. Procedures

A. Elicit (Review) (recall thepast lesson)

B. Engage (motivation)

C. Explore Look at the repeating patterns below:

A.

B. 12112121121

D. Explore 1. What and how many shapes can you see?

2. What number will be in position number 20 for the
pattern in (2)?
E. Explain The teacher will dicuss the topic:
- Arrangements that follow a precise order are
known as patterns.
- Patterns that repeat again and again based on a
particular rule are known as repeating patterns.

Let’s have an example :

B, C, B, C, B, ___
The pattern uses letters B and C. These are the letters
repeated alternately in
the pattern. From the pattern, we can conclude that
the next term is C.

Another example:
I, B, O, I, B, O, I ___ ( B )
∆∆ o ∆∆ o ∆ ___ ( ∆ )
Continuous pattern is a pattern where something is
added in the term every
time the sequence repeats

Let’s have an example :

5,10,15,20,5,10,15,__ (20)

A pattern rule includes a term representing a starting

point and a description of how the pattern continues.
A pattern rule tells how to make the pattern and can
be used to extend a pattern. Here are some of the
possible patterns of a number sequence.
It can be:
1. By adding the same digit to the preceding
numbers
2. Odd numbers (like 1,3,5,7,9….)
3. Even numbers (like 2,4,6,8,10….)
4. Multiples of a number
5. Common factors of a sequence

F. Developing Mastery The teacher will show students various materials that
they must organize and create a pattern with.
(lego,shapes,number)
G. Elaborate (application) - Group Activity
The class will divided into 2. Instruct them to
observe and fill the missing pattern
H. Elaborate (Generalization) The teacher will ask the students what are the
lessons they learned for the day.

I. Evaluation (Assessment) Choose the correct answer:

1. What are the two missing numbers in the number

pattern Below?
66, 61, 56, 51, ____, 41, 36, ____, … 
A. 45 and 35 
B. 46 and 31 
C. 52 and 31 
D. 52 and 37
2. Simon created the following pattern.

How many small circles are there in the fifth figure?

A. 15
B. 12 
C. 10 
D. 5
3. Find a pattern in this sequence, predict the next
four numbers. 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, __, __, __, __."
4. Observe the figure and state whether pattern or
not:

5. A,S,D,F,G,H,J,K,L,M,V

J. Extend (assignment) The teacher will instruct to the following:

Create your own art using continuous and
repeating pattern. Draw it on
a short bond paper
*APPLICATION
