such as synthesizers, tape recorders, and the theremin. • Phonograph (1887) - a device that could record and reproduce sounds (Thomas Edison) • Tape Collages (1948) - splicing and putting different tapes together; the sounds processed included sound effects, musical fragments, vocalizations, and other sounds that are produced by man and the environment (French Composers Pierre Schaeffer & Pierre Henry) • MIDI - the universal digital language that allows for compatibility between different synthesizers. (Dave Smith and Ikutaru Kakehashi) • Wendy Carlos (1960) – released two synthesizer music albums called “Switched-on Bach” and “The Well- Tempered Synthesizer,” which took Baroque compositions and arranged them for the Moog Synthesizer. However, the Moog was a monophonic; it could only produce one note at a time. • Aleatoric - music that uses chance procedures in composition, performance, and notation. It is another word for chance music. • Musique Concrete - tape collages by Pierre Schaeffer and Pierre Henry which use recorded sounds that are created by man or the environment, that are then manipulated. • Oscillator - device that produces sound waves. • Synthesizer - instrument that could create its own sounds through synthesis or replicate the sound of other existing instruments. • Theremin - the invention by Russian scientist Leon Theremin that uses antennas that detect the movement of the performer’s hands to create sound. • Photography – derived from the Greek word “photos” or “light” & “graphein” which means “to draw” or drawing with light, it is the art or practice of taking and processing photographs. • Post-Production - work done on a film or recording after filming or recording has taken place. • Preproduction - work done on a product, especially a film or broadcast program before full-scale production begins. • Leading Lines - lines that appear in a photograph that have been framed and positioned by the photographer to draw the viewer's eye towards a specific point of interest. • Sensor - device which detects or measures a physical property and records, indicates, or otherwise responds to it. • Felix Laureano - said to be the very first Filipino photographer. He depicted the lives of Filipinos who lived in Iloilo. • Kodak Brownie (1901) - first commercial camera that is budget friendly for those belonging in the middle class. • Rule of Thirds - composition guideline that places your subject in the left or right third of an image, leaving the other two thirds more open. • Formal/Symmetrical Balance - most common way to photograph an image. Both sides of the frame have equal weight, and each side may even mirror the opposite side. • Asymmetrical Balance - different visual images on either side of a design, and yet the image still seems balanced. • Recreation - activities that an individual can do during free time. (reading, playing board games, and singing) These activities aren’t requiring the body to move physically. • Active Recreation - recreational activities that require the heart to beat faster; may help build cardiovascular fitness & done for fun and enjoyment. • Individual Sports & Dual Sports - sports that can be played by one person or at the most, with a partner. • Gymnastics - sport that develops an individual’s flexibility, muscular strength, and endurance. There are two main events in gymnastics - artistic & rhythmic gymnastics. • Artistic Gymnastics- requires the use of apparatus like a balance beam. • Rhythmic Gymnastics - consist of gymnastic skills and routines accompanied by music. • Swimming - individual sport that has four different events - freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. It enhances an individual’s cardiovascular fitness and muscular endurance. • Badminton - considered dual sports because you need an opponent to play it. Badminton builds cardiovascular fitness. It also enhances one’s speed, eye-hand coordination, agility and reaction time. • Bowling - considered an individual sport. A variation of this game is duckpin, where smaller balls and pins are used. This sport develops eye-hand coordination and power as the player try to roll the ball forward.

player to do a rally. Muscular strength, muscular endurance, and cardiovascular fitness will be enhanced as you play tennis. An individual develops skills in agility, speed and reaction time as the player moves quickly from one place to another. Eye-hand coordination is also enhanced in playing tennis. • Biologically-Based - old-age herbals coming from medicinal plants traditionally prepared. They are the medicines that use any part of the plant. • Energy Medicines - ancient medical methods of unleashing the energy in the body for the betterment of the health. • Manipulative & Body-Based Practices - kinesthetic approaches that involve the treatment of a locomotive aspect of health. • Mind-Body Medicinal Practices - mental power to permit the central control in the improvement of holistic health. • Naturopathy -medicinal practices employing nature- based cures for healthcare. It promotes holistic health by evaluating the specific aspect of the being that will help for the natural and non-toxic treatment to work on in restoring the holistic well-being of the individual. • Herbal Medicine - biologically-based treatment that uses plants as the remedy for the health concern of an individual. They are proven and known to treat a specific health concern as many years of practice in using them justify their healing capabilities. • Acupuncture - energy-based medicine procedure using long needles inserted at particular body points to affect the energy flow in the body. It is a treatment that originate din Chinese traditional medicines and also targets certain points of the body to manipulate the Qi flow. • Qi Flow (“chi”) - movement of energy in the pathways of the body. These are the meridians between the body points that also lead to the internal organs. Thus, it is believed to relieve the symptoms of a health concern as the Qi flow is improved. • Chemotherapy - uses one or more standard procedure or drugs to treat cancer patients. • Inflammation - physical condition characterized with the swelling, reddening, hot, and painful reaction to an injury or infection.
