This chapter presents the findings of a study on minors' smoking dependence among
minors at Sawata National High School as a basis for community intervention. This was a
qualitative case study that further investigated the challenges experienced by a minor and their
causes, reasons, effects, and difficulties. The participants were nine individuals who had begun
smoking cigarettes at a young age.
There were six research questions in this study. Each research question has subquestions
that served as the guide for the in-depth interview. The first research question was about the
reason a minor started smoking cigarettes in the first place. The second research question dealt
with how often a minor smokes cigarettes per day.The third was about the effect on their health
or any changes they experienced during the time a minor started using cigarettes.
The fourth research question is about the discussion on how being dependent on smoking
cigarettes affects minor students at Sawata National High School. The fifth and sixth research
questions address the difficulties of minors living without cigarettes and also how to start
quitting cigarettes without seeking the taste of them again.
The entire duration of the in-depth interview has been recorded. The informants had been
assured of the complete confidentiality of the data gathered. To adhere to confidentiality, each
informant who participated in the in-depth interview was given a pseudonym and was assured of

Cigarettes are designed to rapidly deliver nicotine to your brain. Inside your brain,
nicotine triggers the release of chemicals that make you feel good. So that's why all of the users
of cigarettes stated that it's harder to quit smoking the longer you smoke. The longer you've been
a smoker, the more it will be part of your everyday routine and lifestyle.
This may make it harder to kick the habit, as not only do you have to stop smoking, but
you also have to change the way your routine works day-to-day.

nicotine dependency, the less sensitive smokers' palates were. And also, the users of
cigarettesrevealed their experiences with how difficult it is to quit smoking without seeking out
