WEAVING

Weaving is the craft of lacing fibers together to make fabric or cloth.

Weaving often involves using a loom to hold the thread or yarn,
although it can also be done by hand.
TYPES OF WEAVING
There are several methods of weaving. The following 7 types of weave
are the most commonly used techniques in the world. These are plain,
slit, twill, sumak, pile, knotted and tapestry which give different patterns
and textures of fabrics.
IKAT
Ikat is a method of resist-dye technique, ultimately used to pattern
textiles. A common method of resist-dyeing involves covering areas of
fabric to shield specific parts from penetration of the dye. Then, bunches
of several threads are grouped to be tied at once, creating knot units
building an overall pattern.
CHARACTERISTIC OF IKAT TEXTILES
A characteristic of ikat textiles is an apparent “blurriness” to the design.
The blurriness is a result of the extreme difficulty the weaver has lining
up the dyed yarns so that the pattern comes out perfectly in the finished
cloth. The blurriness can be reduced by using finer yarns or by the skill
of the craftsperson.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF IKAT
 Warp ikat. In warp ikat, the warp threads are dyed in ikat patterns,
and the weft threads are dyed in a solid color.
 Weft ikat.
 Double ikat.
 Regional variations.
