 Knitting Process
Knitting is a process of using
long needles to interlink or knot
a series of loops made by one
continuous thread. Each loop or
knot connects to another one, and
when enough loops have been
made, the result is a flat piece of
material called a textile.
Knitting, production of fabric by
employing a continuous yarn or set of
yarns to form a series of interlocking
loops. The two basic types of knits are
the weft, or filling knits—including
plain, rib, purl, pattern, and double knits
—and the warp knits—including tricot,
raschel, and milanese.
 Warp
Warp knitting is a family of knitting methods in
which the yarn zigzags along the length of the
fabric; i.e., following adjacent columns, or
Wales, of knitting, rather than a single row, or
course. For comparison, knitting across the
width of the fabric is called weft knitting.
Since warp knitting requires that the number of
separate strands of yarn, or ends, equals the
number of stitches in a row, warp knitting is
almost always done by machine rather than by
hand.
Weft
Weft-knit fabrics may also be knit with multiple
yarns, usually to produce interesting color patterns.
The two most common approaches are intarsia and
stranded colorwork. In intarsia, the yarns are used in
well-segregated regions, e.g., a red apple on a field of
green; in that case, the yarns are kept on separate
spools and only one is knitted at any time. Weft-knit

Flat Bed

In knitting. Tricot is characterized by fine, vertical wales on the
surface and crosswise ribs on the back. It has good draping
qualities and is frequently used for lingerie and as backing for
laminated fabric.
Tricot Jersey. Tricot (pronounced tre-ko) comes from the French
verb tricoter, meaning to knit. Tricot fabric has a unique zigzag
weave that is textured on one side and smooth on the other. This
allows the fabric to be soft and also very sturdy for activewear.
Brushed tricot fabric for reusable packaging is a soft liner material
that can be used with Class A surfaces such as chrome parts or faux
wood panels. Tricot offers numerous advantages, but the brushing
process also makes it a “dirt magnet”.
Filament yarn is made of one or more continuous strands called
filaments with each component filament running the whole length
of the yarn. Most of the synthetic fibres have been produced into
the form of a filament yarn. Silk is the only major natural filament
yarn.
Satin Tricot fabrics can stand up to a good
level of day-to-day wear and tear during
any activity. This makes it an ideal fabric
for close-fitting comfort stretch apparel,
such as swimwear, sportswear, lingerie,
and even some outerwear types.
The term “open-knit” is very similar to the
term “open,” meaning an approachable,
accessible wine. The opposite would be a
“closed-knit” or “tightly-knit” wine, which
is similar to the terms “closed” or “tight,”
meaning an inexpressive, less revealing or
less approachable wine.
Raschel Knit fabric is a type of fabric produced by warp
knitting. It is produced on the Raschel machine. This
machine uses special needles called 'Latch needles'
Raschel knits do not stretch very well and are often
bulky. This means that they are often left unlined when
used for coats, jackets, skirts and dresses.
