Reporting Information

The contents of this report are based on what has been taught, learned and assessed within this
reporting period. Your child's achievement is based on all available evidence of learning.

Years 7, 8 and 9 Mainstream classes follow the Australian Curriculum, differentiated to meet students at
their point of need, while the Years 8 and 9 Integrated Work Studies classes follow a modified
curriculum supported by a program designed to give middle school students insights into the world of
work.

Students on an Educational Adjustment Plan (EAP) receive reports against two of their EAP goals.

The years 7, 8 and 9 Engage classes follow a modified curriculum supported by a program designed to
give middle school students, who have not yet cracked the 'code of reading', the chance to catch up
and become confident, fluent readers and writers. Reporting is based on each student’s progression
through the Fresh Start Modules; numeracy; and elective learning areas.

Intensive English Unit (IEU) courses are designed to develop students' English language
skills. Intensive English courses develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills to prepare
students to access the Australian Curriculum. The English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EALD)
levels explain how the student is progressing in their learning of the English language.

Students enrolled in VET courses will not receive a grade due to the assessment requirements of those
courses.

During this semester in Maths, students solved financial problems and investigated simple interest. Their understanding of simplifying and
expanding algebraic expressions, relationships between variables and linking algebraic, graphical and tabular representations of those relationships
was further developed. Students investigated Pythagoras’ Theorem and calculated the volume and surface area of various three-dimensional
shapes.

This semester in Humanities, students studied two subjects: Civics and Citizenship and History. In Civics and Citizenship, students examined the
ways political parties, interest groups, media and individuals influence government and decision making processes. They investigated the features
and principles of Australia’s court system, including its role in applying and interpreting Australian law. In History, students explored the making of
the modern world during the period 1750 to 1918. The in-depth studies concentrated on the Movement of Peoples (1750 – 1901), Making a Nation –
Australia and World War One. Students developed their historical skills and knowledge by interpreting, processing and organising information from a
range of sources. Students identified and analysed the perspectives of people from the past and different historical interpretations, in order to

chemical changes. They investigated the concept of conservation of matter through various balanced chemical reactions. Their knowledge of atomic
theory was extended and this was used to explain patterns within the periodic table and radiation with radioactive decay. In Biology, students
focussed on how body systems respond to change, the nervous system and ecology. Science as Inquiry was reinforced throughout the semester
through the planning, conducting and analysis of their own experiments.

This semester in the Duke of Edinburgh Award class, students engaged in practical learning experiences within and beyond the school boundaries.
Students explored leadership characteristics and styles and engaged in leadership opportunities through volunteering and assisting students in local
Primary Schools. Students gained an understanding of basic first aid responses and demonstrated these skills in a variety of realistic outdoor
scenarios. Students applied movement skills and concepts whilst bushwalking, swimming and stand-up paddle boarding. They continued to refine
specialised movement skills through a range of challenging outdoor situations. Students additionally completed risk analyses of outdoor excursions
and completed practical assessments whilst in an outdoor environment.
