A. Answer the following questions using the internet.

1. What is nursing information system?
In healthcare companies, a nursing information system (NIS) is a specialized information
technology system created to assist and streamline nursing and clinical activities. It gives nurses
a platform to organize and record patient care activities, increase professional teamwork and
communication, and raise the standard of care for patients as a whole. Electronic health records
(EHRs), patient assessments, medication administration, and scheduling are examples of
features that are often included in NIS.
2. Cite at least three examples of nursing information systems with appropriate description,
correct objective, specific stakeholders, and their roles in the system.
a. Epic Systems' Nursing Information System (Nurse Hub):
 Objective: Epic's Nurse Hub is designed to centralize nursing documentation,
streamlining workflows and ensuring accurate and efficient patient care.
 Stakeholders: Nurses, nurse managers, healthcare administrators, and IT staff.
 Roles: Nurses use the system for patient charting, assessments, and care plans, while
nurse managers and administrators oversee operations and IT staff manage system
maintenance.
b. Cerner PowerChart:
 Objective: Cerner PowerChart integrates clinical information to support nursing and
medical staff in delivering patient care, including decision support and documentation.
 Stakeholders: Nurses, doctors, pharmacists, and hospital administrators.
 Roles: Nurses use PowerChart for tasks like medication administration and charting,
while doctors rely on it for patient information. Pharmacists use it for medication
management, and administrators oversee system implementation and operation.
c. McKesson's Paragon Nursing Documentation:
 Objective: Paragon Nursing Documentation aims to improve nursing workflow, reduce
errors, and enhance patient care documentation.
 Stakeholders: Nurses, nurse educators, and IT personnel.
 Roles: Nurses use the system for charting and documentation, nurse educators assist
with training, and IT staff maintain and support the system.

B. Reflection
1. How was the experience regarding search web?
Finding information about Nursing Information Systems on the internet was an effective and
educational experience. I quickly found pertinent and current material by using search engines
to obtain a variety of data on the subject from numerous sources.
2. Why do you think that the resources that you were able to identify about nursing
information systems were relevant?
The resources about nursing information systems that were found were pertinent because they
gave useful information about the idea, motives, goals, constituencies, and functions of these
systems. As a result, the knowledge is credible and pertinent to the field of nursing informatics
because it was obtained from reliable healthcare technology suppliers and educational
websites.
3. What NIS were you most interested in and how can it contribute to nursing practice and
why?
I found Cerner PowerChart to be particularly interesting. It can contribute to nursing practice by
integrating clinical information, providing decision support, enabling comprehensive
documentation, and enhancing medication management for better patient care and safety.
