ACADEMIC WRITING TASK 1

PROCESS DIAGRAM - Practice #2

The diagrams below show the stages and equipment used in the cement-making process, and how cement is
used to produce concrete for building purposes.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The diagrams illustrate how

concrete is produced. The process

can be separated into two phases:

first, the manufacture of cement,

and second, how concrete is made

from cement and other materials.

Firstly, to make cement,

limestone and clay are forced

through a crusher where they are

pulverized into a powder. These particles are then conveyed along a conveyor belt to a mixer. From there, the

powder travels along the belt and then into a roasting heater to which heat is applied. After that, the mixture is

put through a grinder, which breaks it into much finer particles. The resultant product is cement. Finally, it is then

stored in bags.

For the making of concrete, cement is added to water, sand and gravel in proportions of 15%, 10%, 25%,

and 50% respectively. This new mixture is then spun around in a concrete mixer until it has blended well and is

ready to be used.
