PRESENTATION OF THE To start our lesson for today, I have some pictures here and
LESSON you're going to identify what polygon does it resemble.

Then you're going to discuss the no. of sides of it, angles,

and any specific properties that make each polygon
unique?

Ready? Yes Ma'am!

Alright, first up, take a look at this shape on the screen.
That's a triangle!
What do you think it is?

Absolutely! Can you tell us about triangles? How many

sides and angles does a triangle have? Triangles have three sides and
three angles. Each angle adds up
to 180 degrees.
Great explanation! Now, let's move on to the next shape.

Take a look at this shape. What's its name?

That's a square!

Correct! What distinguishes a square from a triangle? How

many sides and angles does a square have? A square has four equal sides
and four right angles.
Excellent! Let's explore the next polygon.

Moving on to the next shape, what do we call this one?

Spot on! How does a rectangle differ from a square in

terms of sides and angles? That's a rectangle!

Very good! Let's continue discovering more shapes. A rectangle also has four angles
but the opposite sides of it are
equal in length.

Let's examine this shape now. What's its name?

Correct! Can you describe a regular pentagon's sides and That's a regular pentagon!
angles?
A regular pentagon has five
equal sides and five angles. The
sum of its angles is 540 degrees.
Well explained! Moving forward to the next polygon.

Now, onto this shape. What's its name? That's a regular hexagon!

Exactly! How many sides and angles does a regular A regular hexagon has six equal
hexagon have?
sides and six angles. The total of
its interior angles is 720 degrees.
With all your answers, I can tell that almost everyone can
already differentiate the unique characteristics of each
polygon.

In connection with that our topic for today is all about

construction of polygons to be specific, constructing
triangle, square, rectangle, regular pentagon and regular
hexagon.

Here's our learning objectives for today, who wants to

read?
(Some students will raise their

hands)
To meet our objectives for today, we'll be having a group
activity where we will be using the materials I ask you to
bring.
( Explain first what is construction)
But before that, who has an idea about construction or
what comes in your mind when you hear or see that word? (Some students will raise their
hands)
Yes Ms. Lee.

That's right Ms. Lee, but what is the connection of the Construction or constructing is
word construction in polygons? creating something using some
tools.
Do any of you have an idea?
(Some students will raise their
Yes, Ms. San Jose. hands)

I think ma'am since you ask us to

bring the materials or tools, we
will construct or draw polygons
using the tools.
You're almost there Ms. San Jose, only that drawing is
different from construction or constructing.

When you DRAW a figure, it may appear to be the shape

you intend, but when a vertex is dragged, it no longer has
the properties of that shape.

When you CONSTRUCT a figure, by using construction

tools you create line segment, arc, and other properties of
polygons that help you in guarantying that the shape has
the intended properties. When a vertex is dragged, the
figure maintains its properties, and allows you to explore
its geometric features and consequences.

Did you get the difference between the two? Yes ma'am, construction is not
just merely drawing or sketching
but also making sure that the
figure or polygon that you make
contain its properties.

B. Explore
Group Activity So now that you have certain knowledge about
(20 minutes) constructing, let's proceed now to our group activity.

What you will do is to construct the different polygons

using the tools that you brought.

For you to be guided I will give each group an activity

sheets which contains the steps in constructing each
polygon.

( Activity sheet )

Go now to your group and prepare the tools and materials (Students go to their respective

You only 20 minutes to do your task.

Go now to your group and prepare the tools and materials

needed.

With the help of the activity sheets or guide that I given

you try to explore on how you can utilize the tools to
construct the polygons.

After that will be having your presentation.

Remember you only 20 minute to do your task.

( Roam around the room and observe if each group are

having a hard time doing their task.)

Since all the groups are now finished with the task, let's
proceed to the presentation.

Each group will present only one polygon Infront and the
class will critique the presented output.

Let's start with Group 1 that will present their constructed

triangle. (Group 1 present their output.)

Good morning, this is our

constructed triangle.
The first step is making an arc of
points that are the length of of
XY away from the point X.

Next, you should make another

arc but this time it is from the
points that are the length of XY
way from point Z.

And lastly connect the points

XYZ.

(Another member of group 1 will

answer)

Great job group 1! So, what is important or the most For me ma'am, its making sure
crucial part in constructing a triangle? that your holding your compass
in the right direction. As it will
affect the arc that will be formed.

Very good!

That a great observation. It's really important that your

holding your compass in a right way, as your arc will form
your intersections which will be the points of your triangle.

Let's proceed to group 2, they will present the square. (Group 2 will present)

Good morning everyone, this is

our work.

As we can see, we draw a circle

first.

Then we folded the paper where

our circle is drawn and it formed
a diameter.

Then we folded it again in

opposite way that bisect our first
diameter.

There we have two diameters

which are perpendicular to each
other.

Last step using the straight edge

connect the four points of
intersection in the circle.
Nice technique group 2!

You were able to use the properties of polygons in

constructing a square.

So, what makes it easy for your group to construct a Aside from the guide you given
square. us, the knowledge about
properties help us in constructing
a square.

work)

Good morning everyone.

Our first step is draw a circle and

perpendicular diameter to obtain
points A and B. Find the
segment bisector of segment BO
obtaining point "X".

Second open the compass from

"X" to point A and draw an arc
that will intersect in "y". The
distance A to y is one side of the
pentagon.

Third, open the compass from A

to Y, take that distance to the
perimeter and you obtain point T.

Fourth place the compass at F

and repeat that distance four
more times to find the vertices of
the pentagon.

Lastly using straight edge

connect the points to form
pentagon.

Thanks Group 3!

Though it's hard to construct a pentagon, you were able to

construct a pentagon.

So, what do you think is the most important technique in For us ma'am, just like what
constructing a pentagon? other groups said, that using the
tools such as compass correctly
is the way to achieve a perfect
pentagon.

Good job group 3, for our last group, group 4, you can now ( Group 4 present their work)
present your work.

Good morning everyone.

For the first step, we draw a

circle.

Then, we place six points around

the circle that are the same
distance apart from one another.

Third we mark those points

Last we use straight edge to

OF THE SKILL
Nice work group 4!

It's also good that you use the steps which you think is
easier.

Let's clap our hands for everyone.

It's good that you were able to construct the different

polygons and utilize the tools effectively.
We just have to keep in our mind that there are different
ways of construction of polygons aside from what I gave
you in the activity sheets. Then folded it again.

You just have to be strategic and have enough knowledge "For today ma'am I learn the

polygon. Before I rely on

do it by just using the tools.
Now, to further practice your skills and knowledge in
constructing polygons, we will proceed to our next group
activity.

Construct your "Dream House" using different regular

polygons that you have learnered. You will be graded
according to the rubrics below.

Each group will be given 15 minutes to create their

artwork.

It's past 15 minutes already .

Post your artwork in the wall of fame and in the next

meeting, where going to critique each groups artwork.

Assessment

As what I can see with your artwork, you were able to use
the skill you acquired and learnered in creating such
beautiful artworks.

So, what are your takeaways for this day?

For today ma'am I learned the
proper way of constructing each
polygon. Before I rely on
measurement to know if what I
am doing is right. But now I can
do it by just using the tools.
Thank you for that Bernadette.

What else? Today, I learned that proper way

of using tools is important so
that you can create or construct
the polygon accurately.
That's right, so even after this lesson, practice your skills in
constructing polygons as it would be a great help to you.

Before I forgot, here's your assignment.

(Students copy their assignment)

That's all for today class.

Thank you for listening and see on the next meeting.
