Writing Task 01:

Duration: 19 minutes

The following charts represents the percentage of households owning electrical appliances, and the
amount of time spent in using those appliances (washing machine, refrigerator, vacuum cleaner) in
one country from 1920 to 2019.

The first chart is a line graph that shows the percentage of households that owns those electrical
appliances. It is clear that there is an upward trend in the use of all of the three contrivances.

Refrigerators were almost not used at all in 1920, but their usage soared through the years, then it
became a must in every household from 1980 till 2019 as we can see in the chart, since the graph
became steady starting from 1980.

Washing machines and vacuum cleaners were used by 40% and 30% of households in 1920 and the
percentage started to increase steadily until 1960 where the usage of washing machines declined a
little then started to rise slightly by 1980, but on the other hand the usage of vacuum cleaners kept
increasing, until it became steady in 2000.

The second graph shows the number of hours spent on housework per week according to
households during the same period of time (1920-2019).

It is obvious that the number of hours spent in housework is declining through the years, and we can
easily deduce that the electrical appliances mentioned before helped in decreasing the amount of
time spent in doing the home chores.

Dear Mrs barret

My Name is SAFI MARWA, an English student at university. I have seen your advertisement, and I
think I am suitable for the job.

I am a very good cook, and I love doing laundry so you can count on me when it comes to doing the
home chores. I can help you with your groceries too; I live next to a small market where you can
find nearly anything.

I don’t want you to misunderstand me, but I know that sometimes technology can be a nightmare to
people in general not only adults, my knowledge in tech will surely be helpful to you, I can even
teach you some beneficial things too. Eventually, I guess learning the local language would be
interesting to you, and I think I will be such a good help in that.

As I mentioned previously, I am a university student so I have much free time to come and help you
at your home. I have courses on Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s mornings only, therefore I can be at
your service pretty much most of the time.

I am applying for this job because I think we both can be helpful for each other. I help you at home
with whatever I can do for you, and that’s how I will be able to practice English too!
