The two line charts show the changes in the percentage of different electrical appliances and the

number of hours these machines spent doing housework in the ownership of a household in one country
from 1920 to 2019.
It’s noticeable that there are three types of machines: washing machine, vacuum cleaner and
refrigerator. In the first period, refrigerator was at the lowest proportion but after 20 years, it started to
increase which had the same value as vacuum cleaner.
In 1920, almost every refrigerator had no one using it. However, after 20 years, it started to increase
rapidly until 1960 and went to its maximum. In the first period, vacuum cleaner made up for over 30% and
it steadily increased until 1980 and reached the same value as refrigerator after 20 years. In contrast, in
1920, washing machine accounted for the highest percentage, about 40% of the total. After 40 years, the
washing machine made up to three fourths of that and had a varying degrees before it grew up again.
Thanks to the use of electrical appliances to do housework, the number of people spending time
doing housework per week significantly decreases. In 1920, people did chores was 50% and after 40 years,
it decreased to more than half and stayed at this level. Until 2019, there were only 10 hours per week when
people did chores.
