2. Credits (Contact Hours/Week for Fall/Spring Semester)

3 (42) / FALL
3. Course Coordinator
Assis.Prof/ Hani Hashish
4. Textbook and Supplemental Materials
• Das, B. M, Principles of foundation engineering, Brooks - Cole, 7th Ed., 2011.
• Bowles, J., Foundation Analysis and Design, McGraw ,6th Ed, Hill, 2017.
• V.N.S Murthy, Advanced Foundation Engineering, CBS, 4th Ed.,2022.
5. Course Information
Catalog Description: Study the element of foundation which connects it to the ground, and transfers loads from the structure to the
ground. Foundations are generally considered either shallow or deep. Foundation engineering is the application of soil
mechanics and rock mechanics (Geotechnical engineering) in the design of foundation elements of structures.
Prerequisites: CIS 351 Corequisites: None. Pre or Corequisites: None. Type of Course: Selective Elective
6. Course Objectives and Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
• Demonstrate overview of earth retaining systems: fill wall systems and cut wall systems, earth pressure theory, and influence
of movement on earth pressures.
• Design of externally stabilized walls gravity, modular gravity walls.
• Design of sheet pile and anchored walls.
• Design Fundamentals of soil - reinforcement interaction and internally stabilized walls and mechanically stabilized earth (MSE)
walls.
• Design of segmental retaining walls and reinforced steep slopes and soil nail walls.
• Analyze of earth retention systems.
This course supports student outcomes by developing:
