Cultural Event

As my cultural event I choose an Italian restaurant in Kingland Ga. We left around 2pm

to be able to be the first ones in the restaurant because they opened at 4:30 on Saturday's. As

we walked into the restaurant, we noticed how it felt like a very pleasant environment.

Everyone in the restaurant was so welcoming and talkative that they even asked us where we

came from. The server talked to us about their homemade ranch that contain some type of

Italian sauce. The lady who served us was extremely nice and very welcoming, she told us the

dishes we should try and everything they had. In the restaurant, there were pictures that

showed their culture and the diversity of the owners. I ended up ordering Spaghetti with

Alfredo, which was close to Chicken Alfredo, and it tasted completely different. The sauce was

different it had a taste I had never tried before it would not compare to Olive Graden.

On the other hand, my boyfriend decided to order a pizza because it is something that

comes from Italy. The pizza was called “Meat Lovers" and it contained pepperoni, sausage,

ham, salami, meatballs, and hamburger meat. As we tried the pizza, it tasted good, and I would

try it again. The pizza is the main reason I would go back and try the restaurant again, because

the Spaghetti Alfredo was good, but it did need salt, maybe it was because I had never tried it

before. Other than that, everything was completely fine. We also got garlic bread and
mozzarella sticks which were delicious and totally recommend to others. The restaurant had a

unique type of look that made it feel cozy. Which many restaurants do not have, and most of

the people who were there had gone many times before. They had customers that had gone for

years and enjoyed their food and the welcoming atmosphere.

As I now think about the cultural, I learned from going to the restaurant is that Italians

are genuinely nice and welcoming to everybody. To my classroom I would show them that

being nice and kind to others comes from how they were raised and that it is particularly

important to treat everyone with respect. Out of the experience of going to the restaurant I

would show them the pictures I took and talk to them about the curtains that were on the

windows. The curtains have a meaning behind them and that is why they had them up. After

explaining the pictures and answering any questions the students have. I will go into talking

about the Italian background and how it all started. I would show them videos and have small

activities to work with for the students to feel more engaged in learning about the cultural

background.

After teaching them everything I would have a small little party where they would get

pizza from the restaurant I went to, so they could try it and see if they tasted the differences

from their normal pizza they get. I learned many things to be able to involve it in a classroom

when teaching about Italy's background. I could show them how pizza was first created and

who invented it. I could also show them how Italy actually looks like and how they have so

many diverse types of designs that means so much. I could also teach them about the

background of the colosseum that is in Romo Italy. In conclusions, there are so many things we
could talk about and learn about because Italy is such a wonderful place to visit someday. (p.s I

got pulled over on the way there. 😊)
