observed when using WALDNER laboratory furniture:
• If you smell gas, immediately open all windows and do
not operate any electrical control units (e. g. light
switches).
• In the event of a fire, inform the Fire Brigade without
delay and fight the fire with a fire extinguisher until the
Fire Brigade arrives.
• Always keep the access to emergency showers, eye
showers and emergency exits clear.

Supply system for flammable liquids
Description

Designs
Description

A special safety cabinet is used for the supply system for

flammable liquids.

The safety cabinet is connected to an extraction system

and an earth wire with equipotential bonding.

The safety cabinet contains suitable containers for storing

and providing flammable liquids.

Using a pressure regulator, the containers are pressurised

to a defined pressure of 0.2 bar (safety valve 0.5 bar). This
enables the flammable liquid to be pumped out of the
containers and to the outlet.

The following types of supply are possible:

• Cyclic supply with different flammable liquids
• Continuous supply with automatic changeover to the
second container

Operation

Specific safety instructions

Operation

It is imperative that the following safety instructions are

observed when using the supply system for flammable
liquids:
• Observe Verordnung für brennbare Flüssigkeiten (VbF)
(Regulations on flammable liquids).
• Note date of manufacture on the containers.
• Always connect containers to earth wire.
• Only store containers with flammable liquids in the
safety cabinet.
• Note safety data sheets for the flammable liquids.
• Note monitoring unit.
• Close the gas supply if it is not going to be used for a
longer period (e.g. overnight).
• Screw threaded adapter to the containers and hand-
tighten.
• Keep supply air and extract air paths clear in the safety
cabinet.
• Only open electrical modules if the entire power supply
has been de-energized.
• Only use materials with an ignition temperature of >
135°C in the supply system for flammable liquids.
• Ensure that the safety cabinet is evacuated with 10
times the air exchange rate.
• Ensure that the outlets are evacuated by means of an
efficient and monitored extract system with the air
volume required by the ventilation data sheets for the
respective fume cupboard. (The ventilation data sheets
refer to an opening height of 500 mm of the sash window
and the maximum tracer gas values recommended by
BG-Chemie.)
• Do not position or operate hot surfaces (especially
Supply and waste disposal system – Product group 5 – Version 04.14 (EN)

Bunsen burners) in the area of the outlets.

• Use only moist cleaning material to clean plastic
surfaces.
• The supply system for flammable liquids must only be
operated by persons trained in dealing with flammable
liquids and working in and near ex-areas.
• Only use suitable containers with a maximum of 1 l
nominal volume when dealing with flammable liquids.
• Wipe up any spilled flammable liquid immediately and
dispose of the cloth appropriately.
• Prior to each filling and emptying process all plugs must
be pulled out of the sockets in the internal workspace
and the sockets must be isolated. (Observe the
operation lamps and ensure they are functioning
properly at regular intervals.)

10
Supply system for flammable liquids
Operation

Do not operate the supply system for flammable liquids in

the following areas:
• Areas potentially subject to lightning strike
• Areas where electromagnetic waves (radio stations, HF
generators, arcs, laser, etc.) exceed the minimum
ignition energy of 80 µJ
• Areas where an ionising radiation is generated that
exceeds the minimum ignition temperature of 135°C of
the potentially explosive atmosphere
• Areas with ultrasonic sources that could ignite the
material affected by the sonic waves

WARNING
Sparking
Explosion and burns
 Connect containers to earth wires.
 Ensure that sparking is not possible.
 Do not wear clothes or shoes made of plastic.

Storage of acids and alkalis

Corrosion damage on stainless steel components
 Do not work with acids and alkalis with installed solvent
supply systems made of stainless steel or with other

stainless steel components in the internal workspace.

 Only break down chemicals with acid fumes in special
application fume cupboards.

Extremely aggressive flammable liquids

Damage to the supply system
 Prior to connecting containers with aggressive
flammable liquids, check compatibility with the materials
of the supply system.
