COURSE : Hotel Design and Layout
LEVEL : Bachelor of Science (Hons.) Hotel
Management
CREDIT UNIT : 3.0
CONTACT HOURS : Lecture : 1.5 hrs/week

PROJECT OUTCOMES

1. By completing the course the student will be exposed and familiarized to project proposal
and hospitality design environment
2. Student will understand the fundamental theory and work in the areas and operation of
hospitality design and environmental design.
3. The course also will enable them to grasp and polish their interest, skills and design
awareness.
4. Students would be expected to demonstrate skills and technical ‘how’ approach to
developing knowledge or understanding in preparing project proposal through their in-
class tutorial and space / interior design project proposal.
PROJECT REQUIREMENTS

This is a group project with a total of up to 5 members per group. The space requirement for
the proposed Hotel/ Resort Project is as follows:

Budget accommodation (Rooms or Suites)

TASKS

Task 1: Live Case Study and Analysis (20%)


Students are required to do a case study on the followings:
• Brief information about the hotel/ resort (location, target market, etc.)
• Overall bubble diagram of the hotel/ resort
• Information about selected area to be designed (existing concept/ theme, target
market, capacity and measurement of the space)
• Bubble diagram of selected area to be designed
• Research on existing furnishing and equipments at the area to be designed
• Summarize the problem/ error found in existing design
• Make a video presentation; submission in week 6

Task 2: Ongoing Project Assessment (20%)


Students should develop new conceptual ideas of the selected space gradually to be
evaluated/ graded on weekly basis. The new ideas should be translated into virtual
schematic design for evaluation. Among the items to be graded are:
• New interior concept/ theme/ styles – provide supporting graphics of new concept to
be adapted into existing spatial design
• Interior spatial layout (actual dimension in virtual schematic design)
• Furnishing and equipments layout using virtual schematic design
• Spatial color, lighting & rendering using virtual schematic design

NOTICE: Failure to completing such tasks on time will result in poor ongoing
assessment for this project.

Task 3: Project Submission and Presentation (20%)


During the presentation, students are expected to present the followings:
• Brief recap about consultant company, group members and designed area
• Interior concept/ theme/ styles of spatial area
• Floor plan, furnishing and equipments supported with 3D schematic design of spatial
area
• Professionalism during presentation
