This design studio analyzes and understands urban problems and context for architectural design for 4th grade
students. It is intended to learn the overall process of urban planning and appropriate urban construction
programs and alternatives. Urban design is important for its purpose and use. It is also true that it is difficult
to grasp its substance because it has various shapes to fit. However, urban design is clearly rooted in
architectural design. It is located in the planning and design stage of architectural design or immediately
preceding it, and is constantly trying to come up with an alternative as a better urban environment. It is an
area that is considered as matter what. In other words, the starting point of architectural design and the role
of an intermediate link between urban and architecture is one aspect of contemporary urban design. In this
context, students in this studio have been given the knowledge they have learned about architecture and cities
in an integrated method
The urban context and problems will be analyzed. After that, based on this, the appropriate urban architectural
concepts and appropriate programs were derived. In the end, you will derive your own architectural design
based on your own architectural solutions and vocabulary by individual work. Starting from the concerns and
Course interpretations of the city in which one lives as 'Architect', he derives his own unique architectural making
Overview solution. Our design studio is aimed at cultivating a series of architectural processes. The knowledge and
experience of students gain through this studio will be achievement next semester

The target site of our design studio is area of dolgokji market places, sukgwandong sungbuk-gu, Seoul, and is
about 94,521㎡ in size. This area is MOA town District by metropolitan seoul city.
It is designated as a special planning area, and some are under demolition. This area is very interesting urban
complex condition. It is an area with a long city life history, However, it remained an area that was considered
and declined due to opposition from residents, but a new atmosphere of urban area was formed by another
possibility now. however, apart from this area, residential and commercial facilities or business facilities have
already been developed in the surrounding area, and dolgokji Station on Line 6
We want to know what urban architectural alternatives are appropriate for this area and what kind of physical
and programmatic alternatives are appropriate. This is the time when it is necessary to consider and seek
alternatives from a broader perspective beyond modern architecture. If an appropriate planning model is
presented, in the future. It can be proposed as a compromise model for the development and preservation of
various areas in sukgwandong, where considerable development pressure is being applied.

Through this design studio, students learn how to start their planning concepts from urban contexts and
problems in interpreting and analyzing the target site. Students will also have an integrated understanding of
Objective the city and architecture by learning the process of materializing a series of planning ideas that lead from
city to architecture. It aims to grow up the ability to use this to derive one's own unique architectural
concepts.
