Therefore, the shutdown function mustbetestedatregularintervals according {0 the planned maintenance programme 500.25. Function Test of Overspeed Shutdown 1) Start the engine locally and keep it at no load, at nominal rpm: EngineType | rpm Ligi24 1000 or 1200 L27I98 720 or 750 Leia 900 or 1000 vae/a2s 720 or 750 2) Take a large spanner and put ton the link bet- ‘ween fuel-ack and governor. Slowly force the engine rpm over the setpoint, see Description 500.30 and the overspeed will release. ‘Warning: Do not raise the speed over 120% of no- minal speed because this could damage the valves and pistons. The engine must stop. 3) Resetthe overspeedshutdown ontheoperation box Adjustment Correct detection of RPM (counting of teeths) de- pends on the size of the gap between the movable flywheel and the front of the pick-up sensor. Ino or ‘wrong signalis detectedby the sensor, themoasuring gap must be adjusted or cleaned, ‘Tho gap is expected to be 2.0 mm + 0.3 mm (the pitch of the thread on the pick-up is 1.0 mm). The umber of teeth relative speed valuesilimits can be found in the Engine Automatic diagram, section 509 and description 500.30 in section 500. ‘The overspeed shutdown limits can not be adjusted by the user. The engine must stop. Note: if adjustment is needed, turn the screw clock- wise or anticlockwise, see fig 2. 8) Disconnect the manometeritest pump. 0429-90 MAN Diesel wong Cars Function Test of Shutdown 509-01,05 General 9) Open the oil pressure vaive on the pressure block 10) Resetthelowlubricating oilpressure shutdown fon the operation box. Function Test of High Fresh Water ‘Temperature Shutdown ‘The functional test ofthe thermostat, is tobe carried ‘out according to the following procedure. 1 Mechanical sitference Fig2 Adjustment of ressosiate and thermostato 11) Take the sensor out of the pocket. 12) Test the sensor in a water bath, which is con- trolled by the temperature or a special testing device. 12) Start the engine and keep it at no load. 14) Raise the temperature until the switch chan- {ges and check that it happens at the stated shutdown point, see 500.30, The engine must stop. Note: fadjustmentisneeded, removethe thermostat cover. Locking screw pos. 5, fig 3, is loosened, and the range can be set with the spindle, pos. 1, while the scale, pos. 2, is read a the same time, Protectan Tome. Alarm System Itis important that all alarms lead to prompt investi- gation and remedy of the error. No alarmis insignificant. tis therefore important that all engine crew members are familar with and well trained in the use and impor- tance of the alarm system, Themostserious alarms are equipped with slowdown andlor shutdown functions. 0429 MAN Diesel Wore Cs Adjustment and Test of Analog Pressure Transmitter | 509-05.03 General Safety precautions Special tools Stopped engine Plate no. Adjustment 1) The NiCriNi sensor and the PT 100 sensor ‘cannot be adjusted. The alarm limit is set in the alarm system according to the set points, ‘see page 500.30. Test 2) Functional testof the PT 100 sensor and NiCr/ Ni sensor can be carried out according to the {following procedure. 3) Take the sensor out of the pocket. 4) Test the measuring value by submerging the sensor in the water bath, which is controlled by a special testing apparatus producing a constant temperature. If the alarm system has an analog indication, the temperature can also be read on this. ‘Test of setpoint can be carried out by observing whether the alarm system gives an alarm when the alarm limit stated on page 500.30 is exceeded. '5) Check that the measuring value indicated on the operation box on the engine is equal to the testing apparatus measuring valve. 6) The sensor is mounted again.
