Capstone Project 1 :
Mountain Images
The Capstone Project consists of an integrated, comprehensive set of problems related to a single
scenario. Students apply concepts and skills presented in this book to create solutions to the
problems using Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
Mountain Images is an art gallery located in Davey, North Carolina. Because of its proximity
to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Davey is a popular tourist destination. Mountain Images showcases
and promotes fine art and traditional crafts of regional and local artists and artisans. The gallery
features rotating exhibits and sponsors regional competitions. Mountain Images is located in the
historic district of Davey in a renovated nineteenth-century building and has over 10,000 square

Instructions Part 1: Create a sales proposal to provide to individuals and groups who are interested
in renting the gallery space for an event. In a new document, create a title page similar to the one
shown in Figure 1 — 1 on the next page. Insert the Mountain Images logo from the Data Files for
Students, being sure to crop and center the logo. Indent the left and right edges of the Information
paragraph by .5 inches. Insert the SmartArt graphic as shown in the figure, modify the text, and
use the picture files conference.jpg, corporate.jpg, and private.jpg from the Data File for Students.
Resize the pictures as necessary. Insert a next page section break at the end of the title page.

On a new page, insert the draft body of the proposal below the title page. The text for
the draft is contained in a document named Cap 1 Event Proposal Draft in the Data Files for
Students, Insert a header using the Banded style on the first page of the body of the draft. Insert a
footer using the Retrospect style, change the starting page number to 1, and enter the text, Event
Proposal in the Author content control. If requested to do so by your instructor, insert your name
in the Author content control instead of the words, Event Proposal.
Format the headings as Heading 1 style. Format the list below the Restrictions heading as a
bulleted list using the picture bullet style of your choice, and then alphabetically sort the bulleted
list. Format the word, and the word, all, in the second paragraph

Mountain Images art gallery showcases and promotes fine art and traditional crafts of both regional and
local artists and artisans. Located in the historic district of Davey in a renovated nineteenth-century
building, the gallery occupies over 10/000 square feet on three levels. The third floor offers a wall of

galleries, kitchen, and a conference room that is available for private, corporate, and nonprofit events.
The gallery is only available for evening rentals. The conference room is available during business hours

Fees
Your rental fee includes use of the gallery, kitchen, and restrooms. A down payment of 25 percent of the
rental fee plus a security deposit of $500 is required to secure the rental date(s). The balance of the
rental fee is due two weeks prior to the event.

Check the spelling of your document. Save the document using the file name, Cap 1 Mountain
Images Event Proposal. Submit the document in the format specified by your instructor.
Instructions Part 2: Create a letter to be mailed to previous and potential buyers of artwork at
Mountain Images inviting them to a special reception for the 3rd Regional Show. Use the
Mail merge letter (Equity theme) template to create the letter. Change the document theme to Continued >

table sorted by last name. Change the theme to Retrospect and the theme colors to Green Yellow.
Change the page orientation to landscape and adjust the width of the columns as necessary. Apply
the List Table 3 - Accent 5 table style, with banded rows and a header row. Apply the Confidential 1
watermark. Save the directory both as a Word document and as a PDF document with the file
name Cap 1 Mountain Images Buyer Directory.
Submit the merged letter, envelopes, and directory in the format specified by your instructor.

Instructions Part 1: Open the Mountain Images Outline.rtf file in PowerPoint. Apply the Retro-

To create the October Sales workbook shown in Figure 1 —12, import data

theme and the Green Yellow theme colors. Insert a new column, H, and convert the data in column
G to two columns. Delete column C. Apply the Table Quick Style as shown in Figure 1 — 12, apply
the Currency format to columns D and E, and then adjust column widths as necessary. Insert a new
column F with the column header, % of List Price, format cell F7 as Percent with 0 decimal places,
and enter the formula in cell F7. Create a table for the VLOOKUP function in columns L and M.
Use the table to determine the type of sale in column J. Add a conditional formatting rule with an
icon set to the % of List Price column. Sort the table by Last Name.
Create an extract range and extract the artist with an artist id of P 161 and % of List Price
less than 95% using the criteria range in cells A1:J3. Create the Criteria area in cellsL12:N18 and
use the functions shown in Figure 1 — 12. If requested to do so by your instructor, rename Sheet 1 as
your first and last name.
Save the workbook as Cap 1 October Sales and submit the workbook in the format specified

Instructions Part 4: Create a template called Cap 1 Sales Analysis as shown in Figure 1—13 with
the Retrospect theme and the Green Yellow theme colors and then save and close the template.
Open the template and save it as a new workbook named Cap 1 Sales Analysis. Create three new
worksheets. Import data from the Cap 1 Sales Data text file to Sheet 4. Transpose the data on Sheet
4 and copy the transposed data to Sheet 1. Find the string, Hurston, and replace it with Hurston-
Smythe. Compare your worksheet to Figure 1 — 14a. Make any necessary formatting changes and

is a Yes/No field that indicates whether the painting is sold with a frame or without a frame. Use
an update query to set the value for all records to Yes. Save the query as Update Query. Open the

months. Import the AdditionalSales.csv delimited file from the Data Files for Students into the
Paintings table.
Create two tables in which to store the data concerning the exhibits held at the gallery. The
Exhibits table contains data about recent and upcoming exhibits. The Exhibit Paintings table con-
tains dataabout the paintings that appeared (or will appear) in any given exhibit. The structure of
the Exhibits table is shown in Table 1 —5, and the structure of the Exhibit Paintings table is shown
