Geography,population,history:
-Bratsk is a city located in the Irkutsk Oblast of Russia. It is situated in eastern Siberia, near the banks of
the Angara River. Bratsk is known for its vast reservoir, the Bratsk Reservoir, which is one of the largest
artificial lakes in the world. Bratsk has a favorable geographical location. The city is situated at the
intersection of important communication routes between the Asian and European continents, as well as
Eastern Siberia and Yakutia.

Geographically, Bratsk is surrounded by dense forests and is part of the Siberian taiga. The city
experiences a subarctic climate, with long, cold winters and short, mild summers. The Angara River,
which flows through Bratsk, is an important transportation route and provides a source of hydroelectric
power.

As of 2023, the population of Bratsk is approximately 226,000 people. The city has experienced
significant population growth since its establishment in the 1950s. This growth can be attributed to
the construction of the Bratsk Dam and the development of the local industry, particularly in the field
of energy production.

The history of Bratsk dates back to the 17th century when Russian explorers first reached the area.
However, it was not until the 1950s that Bratsk began to develop as a major industrial center. The
construction of the Bratsk Dam, which started in 1954, led to the formation of the Bratsk Reservoir
and the subsequent growth of the city. The dam was completed in 1967 and became one of the
largest hydroelectric power plants in the world.

-The first mention occurred in 1626. It was then decided to build a fortress on the bank of the Oka River.
The fortress had significant importance and served multiple functions: a watchtower, a base point, and a
resting place for long expeditions. Over time, a village formed in the place of the fortress, and later a
settlement called Padun. On December 12, 1955, after undergoing numerous changes, the city of Bratsk
was founded.
ecology, nature:
The forests surrounding Bratsk are significant aspect of its nature and ecology. The region is covered
by vast boreal forests, also known as taiga. These forests are composed of coniferous trees like pine,
fir, and larch, creating a dense and rich ecosystem. They are home to a wide range of wildlife,
including bears, wolves, lynx, deer, and various bird species

Bratsk Reservoir, also known as the Bratsk Sea, is a man-made lake located in Siberia, Russia. Created
by the construction of the Bratsk Hydroelectric Power Station on the Angara River, it is one of the
largest reservoirs in the world and serves as a significant nature aspect in the region.

As a nature aspect, Bratsk Reservoir has had a profound impact on the surrounding environment. The
creation of the reservoir resulted in the flooding of vast areas of land, including forests, wetlands, and
even entire villages. This led to the displacement of local communities and the loss of important
ecosystems.

However, over time, the reservoir has also become a unique ecosystem in its own right. The flooded
areas have transformed into expansive water bodies, providing habitats for a wide range of aquatic
species. The reservoir is home to numerous fish species, including sturgeon, pike, and perch, which
attract fishermen from all over the region.
Industry
The city of Bratsk is known for its flourishing industrial sector.
One of the key industries in Bratsk is the energy sector. The Bratsk Hydroelectric Power Station, built on
the Angara River, is one of the largest hydroelectric power plants in the world. It was constructed in the
1960s and plays a crucial role in meeting the energy demands of the region. The power generated by the
station not only supports the local population but is also transmitted to other areas of Siberia.

Apart from energy production, Bratsk is also home to a thriving metallurgical industry. The Bratsk
Aluminum Plant, established in the 1960s, is one of the largest aluminum production facilities in Russia.
The aluminum produced in Bratsk is used in various industries such as construction, transportation, and
packaging.

Bratsk also boasts a well-developed timber industry. The city is surrounded by vast forests, making it an
ideal location for logging and wood processing. The processed timber is not only used domestically but is
also exported to other countries.

In terms of ecology, Bratsk faces both opportunities and challenges. The construction of the Bratsk
Dam and the creation of the reservoir have undoubtedly impacted the natural environment. However,
efforts have been made to mitigate these effects.

The Bratsk Hydroelectric Power Station is one of the largest hydroelectric power plants in the world.
While it generates immense amounts of renewable energy, it also produces air pollution due to the
burning of fossil fuels for backup power generation.
The combination of ndustrial activities has resulted in severe air pollution in Bratsk.

various grains, including wheat, barley, and oats. Additionally, the region is also known for its production
of potatoes, vegetables, and fruits. These agricultural products not only meet the local demand but are
also supplied to other neighboring regions, contributing to the overall economic growth of Bratsk.
