Bratsk is a city located in the Irkutsk Oblast of

Russia. It is situated in eastern Siberia, near
the banks of the Angara River. Bratsk is known
for its vast reservoir, the Bratsk Reservoir,
which is one of the largest artificial lakes in
the world.

As for 2023, the population of Bratsk is
approximately 226,000 people.
Histor
y
• The first mention occurred in 1626. It was
then decided to build a fortress on the
bank of the Oka River.
• The fortress had significant importance
and served multiple functions: a
watchtower, a base point, and a resting
place for long expeditions.
• On December 12, 1955, after undergoing
numerous changes, the city of Bratsk was
founded.
Natur
• The region is covered by vast boreal forests, also

known as taiga.
• These forests are composed of coniferous trees like
pine, fir, and larch, creating a dense and rich
ecosystem.
• They are home to a wide range of wildlife, including
bears, wolves, lynx, deer, and various bird species

• Bratsk Reservoir, also known as the Bratsk Sea, is a


man-made lake located in Siberia, Russia.
• Created by the construction of the Bratsk
Hydroelectric Power Station on the Angara River, it
is one of the largest reservoirs in the world and
serves as a significant nature aspect in the region.
Industry
• The Bratsk Hydroelectric Power Station, built on the
Angara River, is one of the largest hydroelectric
power plants in the world, . The power
generated by the station not only supports the
local population but is also transmitted to other
areas of Siberia.
• The Bratsk Aluminum Plant, established in the
1960s, is one of the largest aluminum
production facilities in Russia.
• Bratsk also boasts a well-developed timber
industry. The city is surrounded by vast forests,
making it an ideal location for logging and wood
processing.
Ecology
Pollution is primarily caused by the
extensive industrial activities in the region,
specifically the Bratsk Hydroelectric Power
Station.

While it generates immense amounts of


renewable energy, it also produces air
pollution due to the burning of fossil fuels
for backup power generation.
Rural
economies
• One of the primary sectors driving the rural economy of
Bratsk is agriculture. Farmers in the area grow various
grains, including wheat, barley, and oats.
• Cattle breeding is a significant part of the rural economy
in Bratsk. The region is known for its large cattle farms,
where both meat and dairy production are carried out.

“Angarskaya Derevnya”
• The Architectural and Ethnographic Museum
“Angarskaya Derevnya” was established in 1979.
• It is an open-air museum that occupies an area
of 35 hectares and consists of two sectors:
Evenki and Russian.
• The museum offers guided tours, thematic
excursions, environmental activities, interactive
programs with traditional folk entertainment, as
well as New Year and Christmas performances.
The Bratsk Museum
of Light
• It was discovered by Yuri Bordonsky.
• It turned out to be the only museum in
Russia dedicated to household
lighting.
• In addition to the lamps of the past,
lamps of the future are presented, and
there is an author’s collection of lamps.
The Bratsk Drama
Theater
• The Bratsk Drama Theater was founded in
1986.
• From the very first day, Honored Artists of
Russia Olga Lenets and Irina Kuznetsova
have been faithfully serving their theater.
• The Bratsk Drama Theater is a prominent
institution that showcases a variety of
theatrical performances, including dramas,
comedies, and musicals.

• The Central Park of Culture and Leisure, located in the
heart of the city, offers a serene environment with
lush greenery, walking paths, and benches for
relaxation.
• Cycling is actively developing in Bratsk. The
construction of the "Pihtovyi" bike park for downhill,
freeride and cross-country is underway.
• When it comes to dining and entertainment, Bratsk
offers a variety of restaurants, cafes, and bars.
Cultural events
• One of the most prominent events in Bratsk is the
annual City Day celebration, held on December 12.
During this festival, the city comes alive with
colorful parades, concerts, and street performances

International Festival of Folklore and Traditional
Arts. Held in July, this festival brings together
artists, musicians, and dancers from various
countries to showcase their traditional
performances.
