1. INTRODUCTION: -
Upon the request of .
A site investigation of the construction site was done.
- SCOPE OF WORK:
The purpose of the investigation is to determine the surface and
subsurface conditions at the building site and define the physical
and mechanical properties of the existing materials, then to
evaluate the allowable bearing capacity and settlement. This is in
order to guide the designer to choose the best economical
foundation design.
The investigation consisted of: -
In site investigation, boreholes drilling, sampling at
various levels of the boreholes , survey of the geotechnical
features.
Lab tests, unconfined compression tests.

5. FIELD WORK:
DRILLING :
In the light of the proposed project and according to the Jordanian site
investigation code requirements the following 2 boreholes were drilled
at the proposed site
BH1 10.00
BH2 7.00
Locations of these drilled boreholes are shown on the attached site plan.
The drilling operations were carried out with Holman rotary drilling rig-using
air flushing method in 10/4/2021. The logs of the boreholes are shown on the
attached log sheets.
SAMPLING: -
Samples recovered from the boring were tested, described and classified at
the site by our geotechnical engineers.
Representative samples from soil and rock are taken, numbered stored and
returned to the laboratory for analysis

Neither ground water nor cavities were noted in the drilled boreholes.
7. LAB TESTS: -
8. MATERIALS
The drillings revealed that the surface and the subsurface material is
wadi deposits: silty clay mixed with gravel of limestone and chert cobbles up
to 4.00 m then limestone with bands of chert till the bottom of borehole.
We wish to emphasize that the test boring shown the subsurface conditions
at the dates, location and depth, indicated and it is not warranted that they
are representative.

S = Cc H ×Log Po + Δp

Where:
S = Settlement in cm,
e= void ratio. E=Gs*W;
Where: Gs is the specific gravity
W is the water content.
Then e= 1.91*0.32=0.611.
Cc = Compressibility Coefficient.
Cc = 0.37(e+0.003 L.L+0.004W-0.34)
Cc = 0.37(0.611+0.003*0.32+0.004*0.30-0.34)
Cc=0.101.

TYPE OF FOUNDATION: -
In our view it would be better to choose isolated footing connected
with tie beams.
However we should like to stress that the decision for the choice of the
type and depth of foundation lies with the structural engineer in the light
of information supplied by the data of our report.
DEPTH OF FOUNDATION :-
Minimum of 1.70 meter below the finished pavement level surrounding
the building.
Material type: Wadi deposite consist of: Light brown silty clay mixed with
gravel and cobbles of chert and limestone.

In the accordance with Jordanian Building Code and in view of the results of
the geotechnical investigation we should like to suggest the adoption of the
following: -
1.80 kg/cm2
b. EXPECTED SETTLEMENT:
0.272 cm
c. TYPE OF FOUNDATION: -
d.DEPTH OF FOUNDATION: -
Minimum of 1.70 meter below the finished pavement level surrounding the
building
e. FOUNDATION MATERIAL:-
Wadi deposite consist of: Light brown silty clay mixed with gravel and cobbles
of chert and limestone.
Seismic zone Seismic Area Soil Type Seismic Acceleration Seismic velocity
)Factor (Z )(rock )Index (Ca )Index( Cv
1 0.075 SD 0.12 0.18

The recommendations are based on the assumption that the site soil conditions
do not deviate appreciably from those disclosed in the exploratory borings,
should any variations or undesirable conditions been encounter during
construction the soil engineer should be immediately notified , site conditions
then will be evaluated and supplementary recommendations will be provided.
10.3 BACKFILL:
The recommended back fill material that will be used should be granular
in general and should not contain the following: -
- Clays having a liquid limit higher than 50% and plasticity index
higher than 30%.
- Clayey soils which reach maximum dry density after compassion
lower than 1.6 gm/cm^3
- Clayey soils with natural moisture content 5% or more in excess of
the optimum moisture content.
- Soils with more than 5% of organic impurities.
- Its recommend to use the excavated material for backfilling.
