DETAILED DISCUSSION :-
10
My journey from Meerut to IIMC Delhi, spanning four hours, was filled with a mix of
anticipation and excitement as I embarked on the first day of my internship. The
destination held the promise of valuable experiences and learning opportunities,
and little did I know that my initiation into the professional world would be under
the guidance of Mr. Vinod Sharma, the Programming Head of Apna Radio 96.9 FM.
Upon reaching IIMC Delhi, I was warmly greeted by Mr. Sharma, who wasted no
time in acquainting me with the nuances of my internship tasks. The initial
assignment was both challenging and intriguing - reading the newspaper to identify
words that pose difficulties in pronunciation. This task not only honed my linguistic
skills but also underscored the meticulousness required in crafting quality radio
content.
Also, the course provided a thorough overview of the community radio station's
operations; learning about the complexities of content creation, program
scheduling, and the teamwork needed to run a successful radio station opened up
new perspectives on the ever-changing media landscape.
By the time my first day of the internship came to an end, I felt like I had
accomplished something and was excited about what lay ahead. The experience
broadened my knowledge of community radio and made me appreciate the amount
of work that goes into producing high-quality content.
Over the next few days, my internship at Apna Radio 96.9 FM unveiled a range of
practical experiences that descended into the core of radio production. The
following day, I was engrossed in a variety of duties, all aimed at developing the kind
of practical skills that are necessary in the radio industry.
"Mera IIMC tak ka Safar" and "Mera Sahar Meerut," two educational shows, marked
my entry into the world of program design. These experiences not only gave me a
meaningful opportunity to contribute, but they also gave me a practical
understanding of program conceptualization, development, and execution in a live
setting.
13
The first four days of my internship were spent fully immersed in the process of
producing a script and gaining essential knowledge about how the community radio
station's console operated. Although there was a steep learning curve, every day
presented fresh challenges and chances for personal development.
The live console sessions were dynamic, requiring quick thinking and adaptability to
ensure a seamless broadcast. I was able to witness firsthand the skill and finesse
required by radio presenters by operating the console. I saw how they skillfully
engaged with their audience, fostering a sense of connection and community.
14
I also learned about the complexities of managing recorded shows and non-
copyrighted music, realizing how important it is to follow copyright laws. This added
another level of accountability to my work and emphasized how careful content
curation is necessary to prevent legal issues. I look forward to further honing my
abilities and meaningfully contributing to the success of the community radio
station as I continue to navigate the live console and explore the diverse world of
radio programming. The internship has not only deepened my understanding of
radio operations, but it has also made me more aware of the critical role radio plays
in fostering community engagement. The community radio station provided an
invaluable learning space.
This experience sharpened my technical editing skills and reaffirmed the station's
commitment to community welfare. As I helped to broadcast important information,
I became aware of the significant influence radio can have on providing
communities with knowledge for their awareness and well-being. There are distinct
hurdles when it comes to scripting and editing for radio shows, especially using
Adobe Audition, and live broadcasting at a community radio station.
4.the ability to read the mood of the crowd. It also requires subtlety,
audience participation, and responding to listener criticism.
16
Through overcoming these obstacles, I was able to cultivate a resilient and flexible
approach. These experiences helped me advance not only my technical abilities in
editing and scripting, but also my capacity to deal with the dynamic nature of live
broadcasts, which has added to my overall community radio learning experience.
Hosting these shows taught me the art of thinking on my feet. Without the luxury of
scripts or the safety net of pre-recorded content, I learned to speak confidently and
coherently, even when faced with unexpected turns in the conversation. These shows,
which were designed with a focus on current topics, ensured that the information shared
was relevant and easily digestible for the listeners. This format not only challenged me to
stay up to date on a diverse range of subjects but also fostered the development of my
ability to convey complex information in a clear and accessible manner.
Getting the audience involved became an important part of my job description. I worked
hard to build my skills in encouraging listener participation, answering questions, and
building a community via the airwaves. The audience's immediate feedback was a great
19
tool for improving my communication style and better meeting the needs of the
community.
Throughout the fifteen-day internship, I was responsible for developing the "Amarwani"
program, a series of inspirational and motivational stories and spiritual insights meant to
provide people with informative content and inspire them to strive for personal growth.
First, I developed ten scripts, each of which was thoughtfully crafted to deliver
motivational narratives. The recording process presented some challenges, especially
when it came to articulating the content in a way that was clear and effective. To
overcome these obstacles, I had to be flexible and dedicated to delivering a message that
spoke to the audience. The program's objective was to educate viewers about our rich
past and draw lessons from it to inspire positive lifestyle choices.
When the recording process got underway, there were obstacles to overcome, especially
when it came to communicating the material in an understandable and impactful way.
These obstacles needed to be overcome with flexibility and a dedication to conveying a
message that connected with the listeners. The program's goal was to educate the listeners
about our rich past history and use the lessons learned to motivate them to take positive
actions in their lives.
The purpose of the "Amarwani" series was to inspire viewers to grow spiritually and
develop a positive mindset that encourages goodness and productivity. This internship
experience gave me invaluable knowledge about content creation, communication
difficulties, and the powerful combination of spirituality, history, and motivation to
inspire and engage viewers.
Dramas
20
Following the completion of the "Amarwani" program, the internship extended its
creative challenges by assigning the task of writing and recording two impactful dramas.
In the first drama, the narrative delved into the critical issues of girls' education and early-
age marriages prevalent in many urban areas. The script emphasized the societal
challenges where young girls are compelled to marry at an early age, shedding light on
the consequences and advocating for change. Collaborating with three fellow interns, we
meticulously crafted the script to convey a powerful message regarding the importance of
education and the detrimental effects of early marriages on young lives.
After the "Amarwani" program ended, the internship continued to challenge its creative
abilities by tasked with writing and recording two powerful dramas. In the first drama,
the story explored the important issues of girls' education and early-age marriages that are
common in many urban areas. The script highlighted the social challenges where young
girls are forced to marry at an early age, highlighting the consequences and calling for
change. Working with three other interns, we painstakingly crafted the script to deliver a
powerful message about the significance of education and the negative effects of early
marriages on young lives. The second drama sought to raise awareness about the
importance of fostering positive friendships.
These dramas are more than just entertainment; they are heartfelt stories that expose the
harsh realities that girls in different parts of India must face. They are more than just
stories; they are potent vehicles for social change. The reason we feel compelled to work
with community radio is that we have a shared mission to educate and create awareness.
In a nation where problems still exist, these stories shine a light on the necessity of group
action. By using community radio as a medium, we hope to close gaps, promote
knowledge and awareness that can spark positive changes, empowering both individuals
and communities.
Editing
21
Starting my 25-day internship with the editing phase, I found that the world of Adobe
Audition was my creative playground. The learning curve was steep, but as the tools and
techniques unlocked, the complexities of editing became more approachable. I quickly
discovered that editing was a difficult task that required painstaking attention to detail.
The challenge was not only in the technical aspects but also in the artistry of creating a
seamless audio experience.
In audio editing, the sheer amount of material meant that editing was often time-
consuming. Several takes and intakes meant that the final product needed to be refined
and perfected, and the delicate dance between cutting, splicing, and enhancing called for
an acute eye and a perceptive ear. However, it was during this process that the true
essence of editing surfaced—a delicate balance between precision and creativity.
A large part of my editing duties included selecting background music appropriate for the
program's genre. After navigating the maze of copyright laws, I looked for inspirational
songs that would improve the program without crossing any legal lines. The work went
22
beyond simply adding music; it also included molding the soundscape to blend in with
the program's tone and message.
One particularly difficult aspect of editing was adjusting voice pitches to match the
specifications of the program. This painstaking, time-consuming process gave the
finished product a level of sophistication and nuance. As I learned more about the
nuances of pitch adjustments, I discovered that I was not only finishing a task but also
developing a skill that gave the audio content more depth and dimension.
There have been times when a single program required hours of painstaking editing.
Although the first few stages were tedious and tedious, I eventually realized the beauty in
the process. The process of going from an unpolished recording to a polished, captivating
piece was evidence of the power of editing. As I overcome obstacles and improved my
abilities, the difficult task turned into a genuine source of enjoyment. The ordeal of audio
editing has not only sharpened my technical proficiency but also fostered a newfound
appreciation for the artistry that lies within the domain of meticulous editing.
After more than four days of painstaking editing, I made my way through ten Amarwani
shows and two dramas. The audio tapestry was finished, and I gave myself a well-earned
break. These recordings now awaited approval from the finance ministry, a testament to
the lengthy process that was undertaken. The content, painstakingly edited, was not just a
compilation but a crafted masterpiece waiting to be acknowledged.

Extra classes
The day outside trainers were brought into our community radio project was a game-
changer. Not only did we learn the technical aspects of the training, but we also gained
insight into the intricate dynamics of audience engagement and the craft of jingle writing,
as well as the importance of short, memorable messages that resonate with our listeners.
The importance of ethical issues was brought to light, emphasizing the responsibility that
comes with hosting community radio shows. We learned how to craft interviews that are
respectful and insightful, as well as how to navigate the subtleties of questioning; this
allowed us to extract meaningful narratives without being distracted. We also saw how
versatile questioning techniques are, which ensures that interviews remain dynamic and
engaging. This training was invaluable, especially when working with industry leaders
who taught us how to approach conversations with dexterity and flexibility.
We had the amazing chance to attend the Community Mela, which featured Anurag
Thakur. This event went beyond the boundaries of a typical get-together, providing an
up-close look at the colorful fabric of community involvement. We had the opportunity to
observe as well as engage with people who are important players in different industries.
24
Anurag Thakur's attendance made the event even more memorable and highlighted the
role that community radio plays in the larger social interaction and awareness landscape.
To put it another way, the outside training and our involvement in the Community Mela
enhanced our knowledge of community radio beyond its technical aspects. It highlighted
the critical role that we play in establishing a connection with our listeners, maintaining
moral principles, and interacting with key figures to increase the reach of our shows. By
taking these comprehensive approaches into account, we can make sure that our
community radio program is more than just a means of disseminating information; rather,
it is a driving force behind meaningful conversations and positive change in the
community.
Special Classes
1. Amit Arora – Different types of anchoring and research.
2. Ms Pooja Murad – How to create a stories through pictures.
3. Kamal Prajapati- How to make jingles.
4. Dr. Sangeeta Mam – Diction and voice modulation class.

25
The radio hosts kindly shared their knowledge, providing priceless insights into the
representation of the listener base. The variety of programs was evident, with shows in
several languages and covering a wide range of topics like sports, news, and agriculture.
This all-encompassing experience clarified the inner workings of India's top radio station
and solidified our comprehension of the various initiatives that go into its enormous
reach.
This interaction acted as a lens through which to see the careful planning and
implementation that is necessary to maintain a large and varied radio network. Observing
the coordination of programming across various languages and thematic areas gave us a
comprehensive viewpoint, equipping us with newfound knowledge on successful
audience engagement and program curation. The visit to "All India Radio" expanded our
knowledge and inspired us, confirming the significant role that community radio can play
in promoting connection and discourse on a national level.
The journey to community radio started with a number of challenges, each offering an
opportunity for professional and personal growth. One significant one was the initial
challenge of reading Hindi, which caused pronunciation problems during broadcasts.
However, with weeks of persistence and concentrated practice, this language barrier
finally vanished.
Creating engaging and impactful programs required a nuanced understanding of the
expectations of a diverse audience, and writing scripts that resonated with different
demographics posed a formidable challenge. Overcoming this challenge was crucial to
producing content that was both impactful and tailored to the preferences of a diverse
audience.
A special assignment from the mentor added another level of complexity. The goal was
to use social media to find and recruit scientists for a program that would air during the
Chandra Yayaan event. This required a herculean effort to locate and contact scientists;
calls would occasionally be answered only to be disconnected moments later. Still, the
mission succeeded in connecting with scientists who were willing to participate,
highlighting the tenacity and resolve inherent in the community radio initiative.
Moreover, technical constraints imposed still another degree of difficulty: broken
headphones and recording apparatus prolonged the editing process, increasing the amount
of time the team needed to devote to it. Interns had to work together to overcome these
technical obstacles as a group.
Essentially, all of these obstacles—whether language-related, artistic, outreach-oriented,
or technological—offered an environment that fostered the growth of skills and
resilience. Getting past each obstacle strengthened personal capacities while also
advancing the community radio project as a whole, highlighting its importance as a venue
for ongoing education and adaptation.
