INSTRUCTIONS:

 This written assignment can be done individually or in pairs (2 students in a group).

 Make sure to print a cover page with your Names and Matric number, Centre of Studies,
Course Code, Lecturer’s name and date.
 Submission is in 3 weeks to be sent in class. A downgrade will be imposed for late
submission.
 Marks will be given for neatness, format, creative report presentation and content.
 The report can be in A4 format but the maps, sketches and photos presented on A4
format.
 The report should be about 15 pages.
 Plagiarism or copying will be heavily penalised.

ASSIGNMENT:

 This assignment tests your ability to observe, record (inventory) and identify the detail design
layout or planning elements of a residential area.

 On your own time, you must visit two residential neighbourhoods eg. a housing area.

DETAILING:

Based on your observations and supported by photos and /or sketches, describe four (5) planning design
elements. For example, infrastructure requirements, road hierarchy, building CONCEPT and lot layout and
recreation elements (neighbourhood parks). You can choose to observe one or two residential row of houses or
block of apartments.

You can also observe and note down the type of urban design or hardscape planning elements (bollards, wakaf
or pedestrian walkway reserve) that highlight the neighbourhood of your choice.

You can support your observations with sketches and photos, reference to guidelines and make comparisons
between the two neighbourhoods.

Choose only two neighbourhoods eg. Section 7 and Section 4 Shah Alam neighbourhood areas with mixed
development and mixed housing. Or Hill Park Puncak Alam and Taman Saujana Utama Puncak Alam or you
can visit Ken Rimba Section 16 or Bukit Jelutong U8 Shah Alam. Be creative and critical in describing your
work, cite your work (if you use published information or images from the internet or brochures) and do not
plagiarise. Please refer to the image below to give you some idea on what is expected from this assignment.
