Facilitating Learner-Centered Teaching

PROJECT

Each member of the group will conduct an online interview with 2 licensed teachers (1 male and 1 female) in a public
school. Ask them 3 issues and concerns about modular distance learning. After the interview, consolidate the data
gathered and write their responses using the template below.

MODULAR DISTANCE LEARNING

1. Lack of materials and equipments such as
printers/ isographs, inks, bond papers, etc.
Since we are dealing with a pandemic, the best course
of action is to seek assistance or report their
concerns to the highest authorities. They will be
required to provide resources for modular distance
learning, including enough printers, bondpaper, ink,
and other essentials for teachers to be able to deliver
students modules so they can learn.

2. Quality of Learning is declining because
some students didn't take their studies
seriously and they did not consider the
quality of their works. Also, they just copied
the answers from their classmates. Thus,
this will result to students having low
comprehension, low level of literacy, and
students having lack of interests on their
studies.
3. Network problems/Poor Internet Connection
- There are some areas in our locality that had no or
at least poor network connections. As a result,
communicating with my learners was difficult. Some
students had to ask about certain topics but due to
this issue, they were not able to go on with the
process. When there are changes on the schedules
like distribution and retrieval of modules/SLMs and
submission of outputs, it was very difficult to
cascade the message. As a result, some students
were late upon submitting their outputs.
Others:
 Time consuming because it takes time to
prepare and sort modules
 Late distribution and retrieval of modules.
 Guidance of the teacher is limited.
 Incompetent home tutors

The best course of action in this situation is for the
teacher to stop from giving modules containing
answer keys or questions that students may easily
find online. A situational questions or an opinionated
questions that can't be discovered on Google is much
better. Because it can arouse their brain by
understanding the queries, children will take it
seriously in this regard.
A bad internet connection will also be a major
problem for all the teachers in this situation. The best
course of action would be to arrange a meeting with
the parents or the students to address the students'
difficulties in presenting the modules on time.
Additionally, parents or students will be given time in
school to check their modules to see if they are all
fixed or lacking of subjects. Parents or students
should take responsibility on it to avoid these kinds of
issues.In some instances, that submission of
modules will be change date and time. The precise
date and time for submission should then be provided
by the teachers to the pupils. We cannot dispute that
they have busy days, but they should provide two
dates for submissions.If the students can't pass the
given dates then, they will give a deduction of points.
Teachers much set a schedule for the preparation of
modules, it can be 1 day of preparation, and the next
day is the distribution of modules.
Self Management and Time management is the best
way for us to be able to pass the modules on time .
After the distribution of modules, teachers must
provide good instructions for students and give some
time to check and ask about the modules if they have
trouble answering the activities.
Ask for help from their neighbors or relatives to
understand the lessons.
