Chapter I
INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

Over the years, the growth of young student entrepreneurs


around the world has become common. In recent statistics of
entrepreneurs, there are approximately 594 million of
entrepreneurs and 19% of the population worldwide is 18-24
years old. (Kiniulis, 2023). The rise of entrepreneurship is
contributing positively to job generation, innovation, and
economic progress. This indicates a gradual but optimistic
shift toward a more entrepreneurial global economy, with the
potential for additional growth through the provision of
suitable supportive mechanisms and resources. Implementing
project-based learning, fostering a culture of
experimentation, and providing resources for students to
develop tangible skills will further connect entrepreneurship
orientation with efficiency in the educational setting.

Entrepreneurial orientation

Banton (2023) defined efficiency as the ability to


achieve an end goal with little to no waste, effort, or
energy. Being efficient means you can achieve your results by
putting the resources you have in the best way possible.

The researchers are exploring the impact of


entrepreneurial orientation to the level of efficiency among
Senior High School students, who serves as the focal point of
our study. Having experienced the academic stress of being
students ourselves, the researchers are intrigued by how these
student entrepreneurs successfully manage both their academic
and business responsibilities. Additionally, we seek to assess
the students’ efficiency and the significance of introducing
entrepreneurship to Senior High School students. Notably, our
research reveals a gap in existing studies within the local
setting regarding this study.

This study intends to understand the relationship between


entrepreneurial orientation and efficiency performance of
students. The study aims to determine whether the level of
entrepreneurial orientation, which includes entrepreneurial
education, entrepreneurial knowledge, and entrepreneurial
learning, has an impact on the efficiency performance of
Senior High School students. The results of the study could
lead to improve educational outcomes for students and better
preparation for their future careers by cultivating
entrepreneurial mindset and skills.
Statement of the Problem

Generally, this study aims to determine the impact of


entrepreneurial orientation to the level of efficiency
performance of Grade 12 students in San Agustin National High
School.

Specifically, it will answer the following questions:

1. What is the extent of entrepreneurial orientation on Grade


12 students in San Agustin National High School in terms of:

efficiency performance?
Statement of the Hypothesis

1. There is no significant relationship between


entrepreneurial orientation and efficiency performance of
Grade 12 students in San Agustin National High School.
2. There is no significant difference across the indicators
of entrepreneurial orientation.
3. There is no significant difference across the indicators
of efficiency performance.

Significance of the Study

This study will be conducted to determine the impact of


entrepreneurial orientation to the level of efficiency
performance on selected Grade 12 students in San Agustin
National High School. This study would provide to the
following:

Students. The findings of this study may help them to enhance


their efficiency in terms of entrepreneurship and improve
their skills in creating business.

Teachers. The findings of this study may help teachers to gain


knowledge in entrepreneurship and teach the students on how
they will improve their skills in building business.

Parents.

Future Researchers. The findings of this study may serve as a


foundational piece of research, paving the way for more in-
depth investigations into the impact of entrepreneurial
orientation to the level of efficiency performance. Future
researchers can build upon the findings and delve deeper into
specific aspects or variables within this context.
Scope and Delimitation of the Study

This study focuses on determining the impact of


entrepreneurial orientation to the level of efficiency
performance on selected Grade 12 students in San Agustin
National High School.

The level of the entrepreneurial orientation will be


limited to measuring its qualities in terms of entrepreneurial
education, entrepreneurial learning, and entrepreneurial
knowledge. Meanwhile, the level of efficiency performance will
be limited to measuring the Management, Strategic Skills,
Communication, and Overcoming challenges of the respondents.

This research will target selected students in all


sections of Grade 12 in San Agustin National High School. The
researchers will use an adapted questionnaire to determine the
focus of the study.

As shown in the framework above, the first box contains
the Independent Variable of the study, which is
entrepreneurial orientation and its indicators. The second box
on the other hand, shows the Dependent Variable which is the
efficiency performance together with its indicators. The arrow
connecting the two boxes signifies that the researchers will
determine the relationship between the two variables, while
the double headed arrow signifies that the researchers will
determine the difference across the indicators of each
variable. However, the line heading towards the third box
represents the respondents of the study.

Definition of Terms

To prospect a clearer understanding of the study and its


concepts, the following terminologies were conceptually and
operationally defined.

Entrepreneurial orientation. it refers to the process,


practices and decision-making styles in business

Entrepreneurial learning. means acquiring necessary


knowledge for improving business performance

Entrepreneurial education. seeks to provide knowledge,


skills, and motivate students to encourage entrepreneurial
success

Entrepreneurial knowledge. it is a set of skills,


experiences, and capabilities that can be develop and make use
in business

Efficiency performance. the ability to achieve an end


goal with little to no waste, effort, or energy

Management. a process of getting the work done that is


required for achieving the goals in an effective manner
Strategic skills. allow entrepreneurs to plan and think
strategically to be successful as an entrepreneur

Communication. one of the most important thing in order


for us to communicate with one another for a business

Overcoming challenges. means the ability of a young


entrepreneur to face challenges about entrepreneurship
Theoretical Framework

This study is anchored on the following theories:

Self-Determination Theory, or SDT, links personality,


human motivation, and optimal functioning. It posits that
there are two main types of motivation—intrinsic and extrinsic
—and that both are powerful forces in shaping who we are and
how we behave (Deci & Ryan, 2008). Humans are driven by
autonomy, competence, and relatedness, according to the self-
determination theory. Students' efficiency performance can be
positively impacted by applying this to their entrepreneurial
orientation, growing autonomy in their learning, improving
their competency through skill development, and encouraging a
sense of relatedness to real-world applications. Better
academic performance may result from this alignment because it
can develop a mindset that rewards proactive, goal-oriented
acts.

Harvard developmental psychologist, Howard Gardner, first


posited Multiple intelligences in 1983. This theory suggests
human intelligence can be differentiated into the following
modalities: visual-spatial, verbal-linguistic, musical-
rhythmic, logical-mathematical, interpersonal, intrapersonal,
naturalistic and bodily-kinesthetic. In contrast to other
notions of learning capabilities. Multiple intelligences refer
to a theory describing the different ways students learn and
acquire information. These multiple intelligences range from
the use of words, numbers, pictures and music, to the
importance of social interactions, introspection, physical
movement and being in tune with nature. An examination of the
relation between students' entrepreneurial orientation and
their efficiency performance could take into account the ways
in which several intelligences—creative, intrapersonal, and
interpersonal—contribute to their entrepreneurial abilities.
For example, intrapersonal intelligence may support resilience
and self-motivation, whereas interpersonal intelligence may
improve teamwork in entrepreneurial activities. The efficiency
of students in entrepreneurial activities may be positively
impacted by the implementation of these intelligences into
entrepreneurial education.

Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) is an interpersonal level


theory developed by Albert Bandura that emphasizes the dynamic
interaction between people (personal factors), their behavior,
and their environments. According to social cognitive theory,
people pick up knowledge from watching other people and their
social surroundings. Examining how students' exposure to
entrepreneurial attitudes and behaviors in their social
environment affects their cognitive processes, molding their
own entrepreneurial mindset and approach to tasks, can help
you make the connection between the impact of entrepreneurial
orientation on students' efficiency performance and this.
Furthermore, studying the ways in which social interactions,
role models, and supportive networks foster the growth of
entrepreneurial abilities and efficacy might shed light on the
connection between social cognitive elements and students'
performance levels in terms of efficiency.
