THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK:

“If you have a different mindset, you will have a different outcome”. Those are the famous words
of China’s current richest person, Jack Ma. He believes that a person’s mindset is a very important
element in ensuring success in any business endeavor.

Business is a very unpredictable world. It can either lead you to fame and fortune, or bankruptcy
and failure. It is a key to acquire wealth, and success in life, that is why it is a human nature to venture
into it. Accounting, business, and management is a strand that inculcates in its students the rudiments
of conducting business and the art of accounting, but not all its students perform well in class because
of certain elements lacking, and one of it is a business mindset.

This study is anchored on the Entrepreneurial mindset theory which is developed by the Allan
Gray Orbis Foundation. According to www.allangrayorbis.org (2017), Entrepreneurial mindset relates to
how a person thinks, their state of mind or the lens through which they see the world, and how this
influences their propensity for entrepreneurial activities and outcomes. This state of mind or lens is
influenced by multiple factors that include what people know or do not know (related to their
knowledge), what people have done or have not done (related to their experience), what people can do
or believe they can do (related to their level of competency and self-belief), and who they are (related
to their personality, values, attitudes and beliefs).

Students perform in accordance to their mental capabilities. What their perspectives on different
subjects are, determine the way they act, hence in business, it also works the same, wherein amateur
student business practitioners who have an entrepreneurial mindset, becomes more eager, oriented,
and successful in performing business related study tasks.
