Subject Code & Name PPE 2101 Modeling and Analysis of Electrical Machines

Time: 90 Minutes Answer All Questions Maximum: 50 Marks

(K1: Remembering, K2: Understanding, K3: Applying, K4: Analyzing, K5: Evaluating)

To provide knowledge about the fundamentals of magnetic circuits, energy, force and torque
CO1: of single and doubly excited systems.

To analyze the steady state and dynamic state operation of DC machine through mathematical
CO2:
modeling

To provide the knowledge of theory of transformation of three phase variables to two phase
CO3: variables.

To analyze the steady state and dynamic state operation of three-phase induction machines
CO4: using transformation theory based mathematical modeling and digital computer simulation.

CO5: To analyze the modeling of three-phase synchronous machines using Park's equations.

Part – A (4 × 2 = 8 Marks)
KL CO
1. Draw the energy balance diagram of an electromagnetic device. K2 CO1
2. Give the expression for stored magnetic energy K2 CO1

3. What do you mean by fringing effect in magnetic circuit? K2 CO1

4. In a doubly excited rotary system which inductance takes part in the K2 CO1
development of torque

Part – B (3×6 = 18 Marks)

KL CO
5. A two winding magnetically coupled system has N1 turns in K3 CO1
primary and N2 turns in secondary windings. Derive the
relationship between the magnetizing inductances Lm1 and Lm2 of
the windings respectively.

6. Derive an expression for co energy of magnetic field in a singly K3 CO1

excited system.

7. A separately excited DC Motor requires 100W at full load. The K2 CO2

full load speed is 2000 rpm and armature voltage is 100V.
Armature coil resistance is 2 ohms and field resistance is
200ohms. Calculate the no-load speed of the motor.

Part – C (2 × 12 = 24 Marks)

KL CO
8. Energy stored in the coupling field of the magnetic linear system K3 CO1
with the two electrical inputs may be expressed as

wf (2‫ ג‬,1‫ג‬,x) = 1/2 (B11 12‫ ) ג‬+ B12 2+1/2‫ ג‬1‫( ג‬B22 22‫) ג‬
Express B11,B12 and B22 in terms of inductances L11,L12 and L22.

Or

9. Derive the general expression for electromagnetic torque K3 CO1

developed in terms of energy of doubly excited system ?

10. From first principles derive the voltage and torque equations of a K3 CO2
separately excited DC Motor
Or
