EMPOWERMENT TECHNOLOGIES Quarter 1 – Module 1

Information Communication Technology (ICT) - is an umbrella term referring to communication hardware or


software that allows the access, storage, transmission and manipulation of information.
ICT in the Philippines- ICT has greatly contributed to how easy our lives have been today. Our gadgets have become part of
our necessity that we check on them after we wake up. It made communication easier. We can use cellular phones that are
designed for communicating with other people even they are far away. It assists us in our daily works.

ICT -is also comprised of software, applications and platforms that allows information to be accessed, stored,
transmitted and manipulated.
Wi-Fi - is a wireless technology used to connect computers, tablets, smartphones and other devices to the internet.
Online - Online is a state of being connected to the cyberspace through a medium of internet.
Platforms - are group of technologies that are used as a base upon which other applications or technologies are
developed.

Common Online Platforms

1. E-Commerce platform- it is a collection of software technologies that allows businessman to create a storefront on the
cyberspace or internet.
2. Online Learning Platform- it is an incorporated set of interactive online services that provides the educators, students,
parents and others involved in the education department with a wide range of tools and resources to support and
enhance the delivery of education via internet.
3. Online Video Platform- it is a service that provides an end –to-end tool that is used to create, customize, publish and
manage videos online.
4. Social Media Platform - it is a web based technology that allows the deployment and management of social media
services such as creating social media websites. It is a computer-mediated tools that 8 allow large group of people
to create and share information. This information shared can be in the form of different ideas, pictures, videos or
anything that you want to share in virtual communities.

There are six types of Social Media

 Social Networks. These sites allow you to connect with other people with the same interests or background.
EXAMPLES: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and TikTok
What is the purpose of social networking? Sharing, Learning, Interacting, Marketing
 Bookmarking Sites. These are sites that allow you to store and manage links to various websites and resources.

 Social News. These are sites that allow users to post their own news items or links to other news sources.
EXAMPLES: Digg - This is one of the biggest Social News Website available and covers a huge variety of topics like
technology, entertainment and general news. There’s also a picture and video section.
Slashdot - While this site heavily covers technology news, it also has a wide range of topics like politics, games,
entertainment and more
 Media Sharing. These are sites that allow you to upload and share media content like images, music, and video. Media
sharing sites can be specific for video sharing, photo sharing, slide sharing, social bookmarking, and gaming.
 Microblogging. These are sites that focus on short updates from the user. Those subscribed to the user will be able to
receive these updates such as Twitter.
 Blogs and Forums. These are websites that allow users to post their content. This content can be commented by other
users. Forums are web services or a part of a certain website.

WWW- refers to all the public websites or pages that users can access on their local computers and other devices through
the internet.

The web has three distinctive versions namely:

Website - is a collection of publicly accessible, interlinked Web pages that share a single domain name. Websites
can be created and maintained by an individual, group, business or organization to serve a variety of purposes.
Media - the plural of medium, broadly describes all channels of communication, including everything from
printed paper to digital data.
Media comprises news, art, educational content, and any form of information that can reach or influence people,
including television, radio, books, magazines, and the internet.
Technologies- the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially in industry. Machinery and
equipment developed from the application of scientific knowledge.

Social Media - refers to a variety of technologies that facilitate the sharing of ideas and information among their users.
From Facebook and Instagram to X platform (formerly Twitter) and YouTube.
Static- staying in one place without moving, or not changing for a long time.
