Myself Mayank Tandon and I am taking care of SHE dept.

Our vision is zero incident to people meeting our business, zero incident related to environment and
process safety.

Our purpose is to create a learning program to enhance the SHE capabilities and knowledge of our
employee which is focussed on leveraging critical skill. Empowering and inspiring our colleagues to
intervene and speak up for safety.

Our problem is to shift in safety culture from indifferent to advocate and enhancing the risk
perception and risk awareness of our employee to a level which can help us to meet the vision zero

To address our problems and challenges we have followed 4 pillar approach wherein we Foster
strong safety leadership/shopfloor engagement and culture, Enhance she capabilities, Drive risk
reduction and Digi safety.

In foster strong safety leadership/shopfloor engagement and culture, we have followed all Hul
programs and one of such programs is Friday safety and SHE Road show which is very unique to
Sonepat factory. It is headed by FLT’s in different areas very Friday along with contractor and
shopfloor employee where we discuss about different safety topic and share learning on lesson
learnt in wider HUL network. Once in a month we reward and recognise contractor and shopfloor
employees on their good work done in safety field which will ultimately help us in imbibing safety
culture and become safety advocates.

To enhance SHE capabilities of our employee and contractor employee we have provided various
trainings to refresh and upskill them. One of example of this is SBO program for contractor supervisor
wherein we moved one step ahead and implemented SBO cards for contractor which will help them
identify unsafe acts and Sonepat factory was the first one to implement this program.

For driving risk reduction, we have taken a focussed approach to bring down our significant risk
inventory by 40% down to 47 from 82 and we have concrete action plan to bring this remaining task
to low risk. We have improved HI mitigation rate from 40% to 91% along with improving SHE
compliance score from 89% to 98%. Once such example is of modification in boiler chimney activity
in which the height of the chimney has to be reduce from 67 metres to 53 metres because the
thickness of the chimney was not adequate as per RLA study.

on our action closer which improved from 40 to 90% , out Par score improved from 89% to 98% and
out critical task inventory reduced from 82 to 52 . Some of the examples of focus’s approach is
chimney modification an conversion of 220v control circuit to 110v.

As we know that we are moving towards industrial 4.0. In the same process we have implemented
many digital applications. One of the examples of digitization in safety is implementation of AI
enabled camera for capturing unsafe act and Sonepat factory was the first one to implement it. We
have implemented 8 used cases. The alerts are generated, and the concerned team mapped to that
area will get instant alert which will help them to act upon the unsafe act. Owing to this we have,
there is down trend in unsafe behaviour of employees.
